Overall I give this item an 8.
When I picked this planter up for the first time, I thought it was going to be a but tougher then it was. First glance you wonder how the bristles of the "plants" will push through when they're in your fingers.
Included is a small block with cone shaped holes drilled, and a set of wooden tweezers, with foam grippers on the end.
It all came down to friction, just a few strands were poking out when I gripped them with the wooden tweezers. When I pulled with the strands it actually pulled more through.
I pulled about 1" through to get a good amount past the block, to trim. Gary recommends trimming about 1/2" to "Plant". The flush end the you just cut will be the base of the plant. Remember to keep squeezing the tweezers or you'll loose your whole bush!
It was recommended that you put a drop of white glue, or carpenters glue where you want to plant it, before the act of pulling the clump through, to allow it to get tacky. I skipped this step, because I do not have an active place to plant the bush yet (working on that, just so I can get a feel).
Included was a set of well illustrated instructions, however, I have not asked the seller if he'll include them with every one he sells. They walk you through it as easily as I just did, if not easier!
One thing I noticed, "the learning curve" if you may, is that it seems you need three hands to work this item. I'm not sure, but there may be a way to secure the block to the table, maybe tape, to eliminate holding the block when pulling the strands.
