Loctite_Super_Glue.jpg

We've all used super glue but I quit using it for years because of the packaging, it was always a mess and I would get nothing or too much. THen a friend told me about Loctite Super Glue and I found what I believe is the perfect glue. It comes in several different consistencies and I like the Gel, use it for near everything. Available most anywhere, especially at Hobby Lobby and Home Depot.

This is a very nice caboose. I have one of these mixed in with 8 or 9 Athearn's and you have to look twice to tell the difference from a distance. Unlike the Athearn (1/3rd the price) this one has windows and extra fine details.

Connect to a piece of track, plug in the wallwart, plug into USB and put the CD in your PC. Start JMRI, configure same and be prepared for it to read and write your locomotives every-time. The thing just works! One caution, do not test locomotives on it as it puts power on the rails. If you need to test a locomotive after repair or modification, test to see if you can program it on the program track first.

Like many, I have difficulty reading Locomotives on the programming track. I purchased this device to help with that problem. I saw little, if any improvement. Said another way, I must have tried to read locomotives more than 100 times with almost none of them reading at all. My stable of locos includes Decoders from NCE, Soundtrax, QSI, Paragon2 and MRC. None of them read any better or worse than the rest of them.

BTW, I don't like rating anything so poorly, so if you have had different experiences, please, add your own review. I always wonder what I am doing wrong when something from a good company goes so wrong. (Joe)

Lenz_LI-USB-Ethernet.gif

Simply put, with this product, you can have a fully wireless throttle on your iPhone without running JMRI or any other computer program. Simply plug this unit into a wireless router or your home network and the Touchcab app will log directly into your Lenz system!

This product does everything it says it can and is easy to set up if you understand networking. Setting up a fixed IP address on a different subnet than your PC is not trivial for the average Joe.

My computer control software uses standard telephone 4 wire cables which are wired reverse from Lenz and NCE cables. Use the wrong cable on this device or the LI-USB or LF101 and you fry the unit. Lenz could have used a protection diode to prevent damage to these products but they did not. I have had my unit at Lenz for repair for over a month. Self inflicted pain, I know, but good engineering could have prevented the problem for me and Lenz.

The USB drivers for this device have problems and have caused me to spend a tremendous amount of time trying to get it to work and I cannot get it to work on my CTI software so I have had to move to Digitrax to get the functionality I require. Perhaps someday Lenz will get a new drive that is more reliable and less problematic. Joe

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the input, the bad experience you have with your N&W J is a regret for you, I'm sure. The J, a 4-8-4, is a significantly different and much larger locomotive than the consolidated. You might consider starting a separate review on that locomotive.

I now have four of the 2-8-0 locomotives and continue to have only the highest praise for them.

I am sorry but own a Spectrum N&W J locomotive with the dummied down Soundtrax Tsunami dcc system and it runs and sounds terrible.

I got mine from Ulrich for 64.95. It's nice and accurate although the thing looks like it was put together sloppily. The electronics part and the reflective stickers aren't on straight. I don't know how that would throw off accuracy, but it would be off the same for everything so it's still ok. I'm not terribly concerned about the actual speed since I'm using it for speed matching locos on DCC

I have the UP version. Tractive effort a little better than the turbines. And like Espeefan, found the lights dim. Rear light wasn't connected. Pulled 26 cars (40 & 50') up 2% grade on 36"rad. curve. Could not find pics matching the location of one of the rerail frog as on the engine. I ran my unit with Walthers RS27, Life-Like P2k GP9BM, Stewart U25B, and FRP GP9A & B on DC without problems. Now from Bachmann, an Alco S4 disel electric locomotive model. With detailing to meet or exceed earlier efforts of Atlas with the S2, this new model from Bachmann also features Tsunami sound. All in a package with a most reasonable price.

Brought out in 1950, the S4 was the next step in Alco's development of the small switcher, and this engine is no exception.

Straight out of the box, all I had to do was dial up short address 3, and it ran beautifully! Later, once the thrill had died down, I changed the long address to 146 and started pushing cars around.
Performance was acceptable, pushing a dozen cars at a time around the yard. Compared to the previous Atlas engines, these are lighter, and cant handle as much as the Atlas S2's, BUT then again, the Atlas engine dont have that amazing sound either.

Value wise, I couln't be happier. Great detailing, DCC and Tsunami sound. Considering I paid less for this engine than I paid for any of my Atlas engines without DCC 10 and 15 years ago, the price was amazing. Suggested retail is $159.95 but the can be found for less.

Go ahead get 1, or 2, or 4! You wont regret it!!
