I bought the 5 DVD set and am glad I did. The video on JMRI and using 1156 taillight bulbs was enough for me to justify my expense. Nice, I like them very much.

This model is a reliable and well executed replica of a number of Santa Fe stations including the one I saw many times growing up in Norman, OK. I actually rode a train out of the Norman station on a Steam Engine prior to 1954. I like this station alot! Smile

I went and picked up the I-Driver and used it for awhile today. I'll be taking it back for the following reasons: 1. The holster it comes with is the same as the one for the Pocket Driver and the I-Driver wedges into the holster and is hard to remove. 2. I find it difficult to drive screws correctly (can't seem to get the angle of the bit correct) with the I-Driver and driving big screws like 3" drywall is very difficult. I also have a Milwaukee angle drill which has a short snout on it but is not cordless and it drives big screws like crazy. The ergonomics of the I-Driver just did not work for me. 3. And the weight and size do make it very noticeable on my hip, while the pocket driver just 'disappears'. Sorry, but this is an expensive tool that I just cannot recommend.

My newest tool in my tool box, actually on my belt is my new Bosch PS20-2 10.8 volt Litheon compact Pocket Driver drill. Mine cam with a clip on holster that I wear Wild Bill style (cross draw for you younger dudes). I've used it for a day now and gotta tell you my trusty Dewalt 14.4 is now releated to the shelf next to my old Makita 9.6 volt. And the holster actally works and seems to just disappear. I've tried some of the others and they felt like I had a toilet seat strapped to my waist! HD & Lowes 129.95 Best new tool I've found in years. Try one out on their money back plan, I'll doubt you will take it back. I nominate this one for tool of the year for Model Railroaders.

PecoTMtr-a.jpg

Smile It works on a Peco turnout Smile Firmly attaches to the turnout Sad Must cut a very large hole to mount it through. Sad The long rod version is even worse Sad Expensive when coupled with the position switch Sad Extremely loud and offensive noise, worse than an old Lionel switch Sad Requires high current to operate Sad Unrealistic instant operation Sad Does not hold the turnout in position Sad The metal tabs that hold the machine to the turnout are UGLY Sad If you cut the rod off the long rod version with a Dremel while mounted in the turnout, you DESTROY the turnout instantly by melting the tie rod. Sad Very hard to mount when the turnout is already in place. Hard and difficult to install  OK, I mellowed out on the rating.

I bought my Tortoise used for $10 bucks each. Even if you compare a Peco motor at 8.99 you have to add a piggy back switch to equal Tortoise capability. Smile Easy to mount. I'd read tips about how to simplify Tortoise installation and assumed they would be hard to install. Nothing to it, drill a 1/2" hole under the throwbar, stick the throw wire up through the hole in the turnout throwbar and screw the tortoise to the plywood. Foam is more difficult. Smile Small under turnout hole Compare with the Peco which requires a huge hole under the turnout about 1" x 1.5". Smile Quiet, silent operation Smile Realistic slow action like a real turnout. Smile Very low current drain Sad Not compatible with the use of manual ground throws. Sad Cannot be manually thrown, requires electrical signal. I am getting rid of my Peco's in favor of this one

hare-dccspec.jpg

Sad Price, although I got my Hare decoders used at half price. They list for about $25 each. However, the new Wrabbit is a dual hare decoder that drives two Torti giving cost per decoder of ~$15. This compares to about $8 per Torti on decoders from Lenz and other suppliers. However when one compares the additional feature costs included with the Hare, the cost is about even. Smile Multiple routes, meaning that you can program different addresses to cause the Hare to switch differently. Smile Plug and Play installation, plug onto the Tortoise, connect two wires to the DCC track or buss, program and you are done. This can be done in less than 10 minutes per turnout after one masters the simple programming sequence. Many other decoders require more complicated wiring. Smile Built in LED turnout position indicators by simply connecting the LED to the Hare, no need to even add a dropping resistor. Handles Bipolar LEDs too!

Pros Nah! + No pen or ink required + Does not smear + Peel and stick + Removable but resist falling off + NO metal or conductors to interfere with wiring and circuitry + Widely available + You ain't gonna run out of them + other styles available Cons Sad - Kinda small - Don't apply themselves, you gotta do it yourself - Use them with 3 or 4 years and don't store them in the direct sun or the glue will loose it's sticking power.

AccuTrack_MRT_Speedometer_close.jpg

Pros Smile + Portable, use it anywhere on your layout where the base can allow it to set or use it on the test track. + Easy to loan to friends or use at a clinic. + Accurate + Easy to use, turn on power, run a train through it + Easy to change scale with a paper clip (O, S, HO, N) + Low power consumption + No wiring or assembly other than battery installation. Cons Sad - Your buddy can borrow it and you have no defense for not lending it to him - Does not work for Z - Does not turn off automatically so the batteries can run down - Diligent search of the internet, only found them listed on the Caboose Hobbies website (Http://www.caboosehobbies.com) in Denver, which is where I purchased mine. May be elsewhere, but I did not find them. - Can't have it permanently on the layout without it looking pretty not OK!

Smile These cars roll and operate better than the 85 ft Walthers cars that I have which cost twice as much! Smile Cars come with lighting already installed and working fine. No lighting kit required like Walthers cars. Sad The plastic couplers just don't stay connected. Had to change them out for Kadee's but the #148's I put on are TOO Long so I need to get shorter ones. Sad Does not have the close coupling like Walthers. All things being considered, I am quite happy with these cars and would not consider changing them out for Walthers. I have a 4 car set of Rivorossi 60' heavy weights and these cars are equivalent, but the Rivorossis are not lighted. Joe
