So, I recently did a small job for a family friend. So then, for payment, he gave me these. It's an uncatalouged prewar Lionel Commodore Vanderbilt set from 1935. This set was originally his Uncle's, and it has been in his family for years. It is in immaculate condition and has ZERO surface rust. There is only minor scratching on the cars, and a couple chips in the paint on the locomotive. The cool part, is that there are all the original light ulbs and they work. He said that it hasn't had any servicing or oiling, and it runs great. The only major issue is that the rear drive axle on the locomotive is bent, so that it wobbles when it runs. I could tell that this set meant a lot to him, so this will be put on display and never run.

Very cool! But never run? You may honor the memory more by running it occassionally.

Well, yeah, maybe occasionally. But definitely not as much as the rest of my trains.

Whether you decide to run it or not, it is obvious this train was handed down to the correct person. Your family friend must have had some inkling that you could be the keeper of this heirloom. Nice to see yet another take pride in the passing of keepsakes. Nice.

Very cool, I agree with engineerbill.
My Dad passed away a couple months ago and I wound up with these two, didn't even know he had them.

Nice display Rick. What exactly did you wind up with though?
As for the OP, that was a great payment option.

Nice, Rico. I think it's the coolest thing to find trains, especially when you didn't know they existed.
