I agree, very nice work! How about showing some more (a lot more!) of your layout? From the shots I've seen from your posts, you seem to have a lot of CB&Q represented.
Is that your main RR of interest or are there others as well? I'm getting a slow start with the Q in N scale and am still looking for ideas.

I model a freelance bridge RR The Missouri & Arkansas Railway used by theCB&Q & MKT. The location is in Eastern Missouri. The line starts out at Old Monroe Mo. On the CB&Q next to the Cuivre River at MO. State Highway 79, then goes west to Hawk Point Mo. From Hawk Point the line swings south along MO. State Highway 47 where it crosses the old Wabash / Norfolk & Western RR line near Warrenton Mo. The line continues south thru Missouri Wine Country to connect with MKT near Marthasville Mo. near State Highway 94. Since this is "My" railroad most places will have the "flavor" of this area but may not be perfect to the prototype. Time is pre Burlington Northern (1970). The location & time frame gives me a lot of room of the type of motive power I can use plus pre-merger freight cars from so many different Railroads from all over the country. As with many railroads built in the 1800’s they never reached all the way as planned. So they never made it all the way to Arkansas.
#1 This will be a point to point RR built on Hollow-core doors (about $24 ea) along two walls, so it will be in sections. #2 It's going to be less track, no large yards, no switch machines, open staging, & simple engine service area. #3 Just a few small towns with one or two sidings. #4 More open scenery between towns. #5 Interchange with the MKT on the West end & the CB&Q on the East end. |

Tomkat, thanks for the info and pictures. I think you have done a fantastic job! I hope to do half as good a job as you have at recreating a bygone era.

I was born in KC missouri....and my moms parents lived in kirkwood, St Louis, Mo.. We took the train from KC to St Louis and back regularly from about 1958 to 1963 or so. I was very young then and immensely enjoyed riding the trains and seeing the giant locomotives and boarding them in the basement below the KC union station....with the noise of the engines and smell of the diesel....nothing compares with that!
![]() Your awesome layout has much of the look I am going for.....and with the older era and times. I don't mind mixing in some newer locomotives too. One of my rules is: not many white houses or buildings....unless maybe heavily weathered. The color white on a layout does not look right to me. (yours look great though...well done). Mine will tend toward using earth tones for structures.....and some dark red brick. Mike

You have to use an off-white haze over a white building. Here's an industry that would look kind of odd in any other color. White buildings in the foreground and darker in the distance makes for depth.

Looks very good. The details and signage make a great looking scene.
