I remember BLI having a policy of repairing "floor models" on a flat rate basis, if they have the parts to repair them. Give Larry a call, and see if he thinks he can help you. I think the fee was on the order of $65 the last time I had to send in a crash tested unit to BLI.

I would have to track it down again but a little while ago I came across the website of an individual who was kitbashing Beyer Garratts in N.

There was a kit some years ago. You would use the castings that were sold, and put them over a pair of Graham Farish 4-6-0 drives.

Yeah, I think shipping places have a betting pool going on how much abuse a package can take. My dad sent a framed thing to somebody, and when they got it, there was... no kidding... a tire mark across the package. Right across the stamp that said 'fragile.' Luckily the picture was a photocopy!

For deliveries from the UPS or Fed-Ex guy I have a box by the door or he can put it inside the sun room. Of course I live clear out in the middle of nowhere.

BLI did a good job with repairing my N&W Y6b 2-8-8-2. It had a fall from the table to concrete and shattered! It took about a month after sending it in, repairs, and return shipping but it was worth the repair cost. I always keep the original packaging just for shipping and moving.

I dropped a shelf two years ago. It happened to have been supporting my Y6b, my J1 2-10-4, and my Trix Mikado. Only the Y6b suffered much damage, and I also sent mine in to BLI. The standard cost for them, for parts, repair, and return, was $45 in early 2010. They did a good job, but forgot to install both the smoke cover railroad plate, the round one centered, and the reverser bar on one side. They had to replace the entire front engine.
It was about 5 weeks to Canada.

I have a friend who's brother works for UPS. During downtime, they play package football at the sorting facilities. Just hope that it's not yours that they use!
UPS used to beat up all my packages. Now, they've gotten a lot better and my packages come intact. FedEx on the other hand, has beaten up every package I've ever received from them, and are still doing so. I ordered a microwave two weeks ago, and the box arrived broken, the door broken off and mangled, and the glass from the door was everywhere and falling out of the mangled box. It's as if they threw the package in a baler.
