Joed2323

A helix (as I have discovered) is governed by height, diameter and clearance between layers

I will clean up the "Helix Calculator" I found online (originaly G scale) which I converted to n scale with metric and imperial dimensions and post soon.

Update
Completed to track on Helix 1, bigger job than I thought but very satisfying to get to the bottom.
Will start Helix 2 tommorrow

Don't forget slope - perhaps the most important factor after clearance.

What is the clearance on yours? It looks like quite a bit.

grade is subject to height, diameter and space between

My spacing is 72mm - I need the space for my big hands

see spec below

Yes but usually you have a max grade that you are willing to accept and thus the diameter follows from the grade chosen and the spacing required.

At least that has been my experience.

I didn't notice that you are working in N scale so my perception was off a bit.

After looking at your work I remembered that I had yet to purchase the materials for my helix to make the "guard rails" so off to the store I went.

Thanks!

3 dimensional geometric calculations have never been my strong suit which made me ask a lot of questions and with the help of the calculator to come up with the size of my Helix design.
I am not one for prototypicalism (if that is a word) but it should look right, many people may say this is wrong, well we are individuals.

Helix 1 still requires the guard rail on the inside circumfrence which will be installed once I dont need to constantly but my big hands inside

I fully appreciate any comments/advice so feel free

Its looking very good. Nice work...

Could you step back and take a overall picture of layout area?

Im not sure if you stated it earilier but how tall is your helix to the second deck, 20 inches? 4 inches between each loop?

I want to do a second deck with a helix but i almost feel scared to, lol Im afraid to pull the trigger and do it.
