Default What do I do when I have two engines have the same no.

O.K. this has probably been addressed before but what do I do when I have two engines with the same road number? What address should I assign?

Here's what I do. I model the Western Maryland and the Maryland Midland. There are several instances where numbers "overlap".
Where there is an overlap (ex: loco #302) the Western Maryland unit has a DCC
address of 302, the corresponding Midland unit is address as 9302.
Midland units all have a "silent 9" in the address, the Western MD units are addressed to whatever the number board says........simple enough??

That seems like a good scheme to me. What if you have two engines with the same four digit number? I guess the answer is, "Don't".

Either that or re-number the unit!

I have sort of the same problem. I have (5) old Athearn GP-35 with the same number. I am working on renumbering them. I am going simple, take a 3 and make it an 8 or a 9. That way I just need to mess with a single number and not have to paint anything.

Buzz.

You could simply use the last three digits of the duplicate number.
I have several engines with duplicate numbers, but the duplicates are in different "eras", as one set is steam, the other is diesel.

If they are the same road and engine, then scrape away an entire number or part of one, as suggested. If different roads, you can do as above or add or drop a number, although that can be confusing...especially after a beer.

There are many possibilities, like reversing it. Instead of 2504 make it 4025. Once again could get confusing especially if there is more than one duplicate.

I recommend renumbering. Just change the easiest to change digit. In my example above it should be fairly easy to change the 0 to an 8. for 2584.
