Is the DCC harness in these 9 pin or 8 pin? Or both?

9 pin. I don't know if you can use 8 pin decoders or not with it.

The harnesses are 9 pin single inline package, and on the newest boards the 8 pin dual inline plugs are setup.

The 9 pin connector is called a JST IIRC. Its the plug on the end of most decoders. Just remove the harness from the decoder and the decoder will plug right in to the 9 pin.

In the models I have seen, both. I prefer the 9 pin

IIRC, Those are actually low end Lenz decoders. While they do what they are supposed to do, unlike some much cheaper decoders, the number of CV's available for adjustment esp. regarding engine performance, are extremely limited.

It's pretty good bang for the buck with 5 functions and lots of advanced features for less than 20 bucks. I didn't notice anything revolutionary though
