Default New from Denver, CO

Hey all, my name is Matt. I'm from Denver Colorado and a bit new to the hobby but long time model train lover. My grandpa just handed down a portion of his collection to me so I am in the middle of organizing things and seeing what I've got. Really excited to build my first layout and learn more about the industry. I'm full of questions so I hope you guys are full of answers. I am selling a portion of this collection to make some space but am holding on to a lot of it as some of his pieces are very rare. I'm keeping an inventory in xcel as well as a photo inventory which you can view on my imgur page mtthwlrsn.imgur.com. Look forward to getting to know everyone here!

Welcome to the forums, Matt. This is a great (actually the best site) for model railroading on the web, with plenty of friendly and knowledgeable people. You will probably be able to get just about any and all questions answered here. Enjoy your time here and don't be a stranger. Oh yeah, post plenty of pictures too!

Matt, welcome to the board. I'm new to N scaling. So, I'm just getting started. A few guys on this board got me up to speed and I will be hitting a couple of local hobby shops that specialize in N scale soon. I'm still an O scaler in heart, but I love the endless possibilities with N scale.

Paul

Thanks guys! I look forward to learning what I can. I have so many trains to build I can't imagine being able to do it during my lifetime. Burlington Bob, you can see my pictures of everything I have at mtthwlrsn.imgur.com I am using this to catalogue my collection and to keep track of what I am selling. Take a look and let me know what you think. I have pictures of a Lindsay Ghost in the original box, that seems to get most people's attention

I'm from the Denver area also. I actually live in Broomfield.

You should go visit Caboose Hobbies, that place is awesome. I go there all the time, I've spent a ton of money there over the last couple of years. LOL

Denver is an amazing place to be a model railroader. Unfortunately it is getting less so. When I moved to Denver in 1983 there were still 13 hobby stores, 9 major hobby stores 7 of which were exclusively trains. Now it is basically down to Caboose and it is a ghost of what it used to be.

Anyway there are many clubs, operating groups, and museums in the area. There is a swap meet every other month in Green Mountain.

So much stuff in fact that I have a hard time getting to a lot of it.

I hought is may have just been me when it came to Caboose Hobbies. Where I live we have absolutely no "train" hobby shops and have to travel hundreds of miles to find one, and I rarely find anything that I need in stock. I get into the Denver area from time to time and Caboose hobbies is a regular stop, but I will agree that it's not anywhere as good as it used to be. It's almost a waste of time to visit any hobby shop just to be told that "we can order it and it will be in in a few weeks". Very discouraging !!!

Really?! Where? I'm in Green Mountain and haven't come across this yet, although I doubt my wife doesn't mind.
