Clint,

I saw on youtube that you finally got your hands on a Big Boy, albeit PCM, not the MTH that you wanted. I would say 'congrats,' but I saw a couple days later that you listed it on the Bay. What's up with that? Buyer's remorse? In your first video, you said that you liked the BLM, despite the lack of marker lights, cab lights, and smoke. Based on your BIN price, I'm guessing you paid somewhere around that when you bought it. For just a little more $$, I managed to pick up each of my MTH Big Boys. As you know, these have cab lights, marker lights, smoke, and in MY opinion, much better sound. Chime in. Interested minds want to know.

Jason in Colorado.

Good decision. Considering all the features MTH has packed into their steamers, the retail price is just about right. I've seen Big Boys from other manufacturers sell for comparable prices, and as Clint now knows, many don't have cab lights, marker lights, smoke, etc. Considering the scarcity of MTH steam, I suppose an additional 10% or so above retail is justified. Beyond that, some of the prices out there are incredulous, asinine, and flat out greedy... $999.95 for the Scranton 4012 presently on feeBay, for example. Just have some patience and check the various sources daily. It will be yours. Oh yes. It will be yours!

D'oh! When you have them all running again, you should post a review. I'd be interested! On a better note, I was able to run both my Big Boys and my Challenger today. All was well until I hooked up to my recengly acquired Bachmann heavyweights. I learned the hard way... they have MAJOR uncoupling issues.

On a more related note for Railroadkid1937, MTH Big Boy #4006 is on feeBay. No idea the present bid, but it started right at retail.

Railroadkid1937, lets not get into a bidding war on 4006. I was the original bidder on it but if you are interested let's work it out so we don't make the seller rich!

Have you asked the Club down there about running your BigBoy's on their layout?
