I am new to the hobby. For a lark, i am trying to recondition an old tyco ho chattanooga 638 steam engine. To make smoke, it uses a small tungsten filament (broken). The resistance is 120 ohms at about 16 volts. When the filament heats up the smoke oil in the cotton wick heats up and gives off smoke. Does anyone know if there is a source to buy new filaments or some substitute. Thanks. Bigwolf.

Have a look here, they have a unit that may work as a replacement - http://yardbirdtrains.com/YBsmkunit.htm

Jim, I will give them a call. If the smoke funnel on mine is same size or bigger than smoke funnel on the Mikada, it should work. Don L.

jim, unfortunately, the unit fits in smoke funnel and gets very hot. Since the boiler body of the Chattanooga engine is plastic, it will melt. Thanks anyway. Don L.
