I've been asked by an estate to find assistance in getting a purchaser for a model steam engine. I apologize in advance for being fairly model-ignorant, so please forgive my omissions of gauge, model style, etc. - I'm mostly a full-size stationary engine guy, so the concepts of "locomotives" and "models" are both unfamiliar territory.
This is probably a kit of some sort, at least based on the markings I saw on the construction. I'd put it sometime in the 50's or 60's, perhaps. The gauge is clearly 20th century, and the machining on the pieces is "modern".
The locomotive is mostly complete, but there are some minor missing parts. The tubing from the water tender/coal car is missing. The burner is missing. However, it is in good shape and the pistons were unstuck last time I looked at it, and it's quite a nice model that I'm sure can run again without too many hours invested in clean-up and minor restoration.
I would estimate that the tracks are 4" in between the rails - sorry that I don't know what gauge it is.
It's fairly large - maybe 25" from end to end. I have no idea how much it weighs. There are no markings that indicate year, model, or anything else that I was able to find except for a brass plaque (barely visible in the photo) that says "AMERICA" running along the boiler just above the piston reach area.
The lady selling it is not familiar with the market for such things, and has asked me simply to post this to a forum where someone might be able to either provide a value estimate, or perhaps even be interested in purchase. The item is in Eureka, California. If you have an interest, I'd suggest a rapid reply as there is a local buyer in the wings...
As my knowledge is limited on the item other than what is visible on it, I'd ask that inquiries be sent directly to her:
