Good morning. It's mostly clear and 40.
Heading off to let the stealership have their way with the new truck. It has 4000 miles on it already, and I want to get the oil changed, and take care of a couple of small warranty items. The front tires are wearing in a feather pattern, and the steering is kind of "touchy". Also, there is a single "click" sound every time I stop, and accelerate.
After that, I have to go to the AT&T store, and find out what they plan on doing about the fact my cell phone manufacturer has put me, and every other owner of that phone, in their Beta testing group for a new feature.

Beach Bum
Good Morning, 28° and cloudy, with rain later.

On the doctor front, the thing that pisses me off the most is when they knowingly over schedule and you sit and sit and sit. They might as well tell you to your face that your time and life doesn't matter to them.

Curt: Every time I get a confirmation call, confirming an appointment, they tell me to arrive at least 15" before the appointment, in case there is any paperwork to complete. Now, in most cases the Doctors I have gone to are rather punctual, and if they are not, I give them an hour then leave. I always tell them My time is just as valuable as the Doctor's, which drives the receptionist nuts. One thing about being on Medicare, and in Jersey, is that there is no shortage of Doctors or Specialists, so I'm not stuck with someone that I have an issue with.

Ken in VA: I never used the VA, but, I figured that's who Curt was referring to. Your experiences mirror some of the stories my son tells about the VA. Happens in the private sector also. Some physicians, primarily specialists overbook, and keep you waiting for hours, for no reason but...

Garry: I like Curt's suggestion to name the town Willoughby. For one, the town looks great, and the buildings resemble Willoughby from the Twilight Zone episode.

Same Ol' Buzzard
Good Morning All. 70° and partly cloudy. Wind is supposed to start coming out of the NW in the next hour and the temperature will rapidly drop for the rest of the day. Gusts up to 40 mph are predicted. Looks like I'll be cooking a seventeen pound turkey on Thursday, largest one that I personally have cooked. Cleaned out part of the freezer for my "other" turkey. A vendor that I dealt with when I was still working will be deep-frying a bunch of them Tuesday and Wednesday. He sets up 10 deep fryers in an unused part of his plant and generally does 220 turkeys to distribute to his customers, with a few that he sets up in his employee lunchroom for them. As a former longtime customer, there's always one for me, but I have to go and pick mine up. It's quite an operation that I have seen. There's a prep table, a line of propane fired cookers, a draining area and a packing table. There's one guy with a clipboard and a watch timing each of the numbered cookers who signals when each one is done in succession. The initial startup is staggered. It takes 3-55 gallon drums of peanut oil to do all of them. The employees also have an additional deep-fryer that they use to cook the livers and 25 lbs. of fish for themselves. If you have never tried deep-fried turkey, you need to at least once in your life. Despite being immersed in boiling oil for 45 minutes, they are not greasy like you might expect.
Out in the train shed, I continued to straighten things up and vacuumed the floor. Spiderweb remnants collecting dust are my biggest culprits. That and grass clippings and other yard residue that I track in on my shoes. Finished up an under layout support that I had originally run out of lumber for, so I could renew efforts to do landscaping on the topside without drilling screw holes through the scene that would just have to be repaired. Exchanged positions on a number of engine/caboose, on trains in staging so I have some ready-to-run trains for when the grandkids show up Thursday. Cleaned the loco wheels as well.
Garry - If those SD40-2's are anywhere near as powerful as some Genesis units that I have (non SD40-2's) I should be able to pull a 200+ car train. However I only intend to double-head them and pull 22-24 car trains, since that is the average length of my passing sidings and staging tracks. I could try 200 cars, but returning them to where they started would take a lot of time! Your photo of the "way back" era looks awesome. Should turn out nicely.
Chet - If your efforts with the #78 drill it are like mine, I hope that you have a few extra on standby. I average about 40 holes before I break one.
David - Look at the bright side, you didn't have a floor model!

Doctors: I always insist on the first appointment slot usually after lunch or sometimes in the morning. Sometimes there is a delay in the morning slot while the nurse practitioner is still clearing out the walk-ins in the exam rooms that arrive before the doctor, (they open two hours before his first appointment), but I am still the first to see him. It's still a 45-60 minute ordeal, but it is a lot less time than my neighbor has to spend at the VA for the same thing, and he has never seen the same doctor twice. Humana's mail order pharmacy also calls me first before filling any of his prescriptions, so I can choose whether or not to have them filled. He/his office sends them electronically directly to Humana. They are also better at arguing with his staff than I am.

Everybody have a great weekend.

Back from the stealership.
Oil was changed, alignment is within specs. They couldn't find the source of the clicking sound, and will try again at the next oil change.

Good Morning Everyone....

Cool and snowy, but the snow is only sticking to the grassy areas.

The wife when down stairs this morning and found my layout outs and radio on...also the power for the Tortoise switch machines was on as well as the and the LED signals. I must of forgot to turn the power off yesterday when I came up for a late lunch. Dummy me, I'm usually pretty careful about turning off the power. At least no trains were running which I did once before.

Wisconsin Badger (undefeated) game at 11:30 ad the Packer tomorrow at noon.

Then maybe the train room.

My Blair Line Roadhouse kit came yesterday along with some sign packages.

I'm going up to the UP of Michigan in the near future. I just love that part of the county. Nothing like riding a motorcycle over the Mighty Mac bridge. Just don't look down.

That's all for now.

Good morning: It is 50 heading towards a 79 high with clear sky...bout time ... it's been cloudy/gloomy all week with just a sprinkle during two mornings.
Been doing some "fixit" work on the RV - going to take it to Arizona this coming week to visit son and his family for a few days and to do some shooting - he has several "new" rapid shooting guns that I have not fired before.
Also been doing fixit work on the model church that I posted a couple pictures before. The model is going into the Temecula Museum in "Old Town". It had a couple loose windows and a door where kids had tried to reach in and help themselves to the donations which had been placed thru the cutout in the roof. Stealing from the church - that's something that I would have NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT when I was growing up!

TERRY - Dang I wish you were closer! What do I use to be able to hang - say a clock - on the wall of the RV. The walls seem like they are a "Masonite" material. I have tried sticky Velcro - it did not hold. Is it OK to drill a hole? I tried a small nail - did not get anywhere except crashing my finger!

You Guys have been telling the woes of the doctors! Just one of the reasons I am afraid to leave CA. With Kaiser here I have never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes. Almost every time that I get there 15 min early - they take me in within 5 minutes - and I have seen boo-coo appointments in the past 2-1/2 years.

Well, I see that I'v been AWOL for a week and no one cared - sigh - story of my life - lol.
KEN D&J Had a BIG laugh over your check-out woes - very good!

Not that we didn't notice or care, but you left-coasters have a history of disappearing on us for days and weeks at a time!
Really, trying to steal from the church. Pretty bold when one considers the potential consequences. Not only did I not think about it when growing up, I wouldn't even consider it today! Regarding the RV, I might try a fine-thread screw provided that there is space between the inner and outer walls.

Willie Probably because "stuck" in traffic somewhere!

I am hesitant to try and drill a hole until I know what material it is?
OK - Just realized that I can remove a switch cover and maybe determine the thickness and type of material -- DUHHH!

Just went for a walk outside. Big mistake so I cut it short.
Super windy (30 mph or so) and misting rain.
Temp around 45 but doesn't feel like it.
Get I'm relegated to another boring day.

Sherrel, the wall is 1/8" panel, with foam sandwich insulation. I would probably use #6x 1/2" wood screws, and use a mount that utilizes at least two of them, to spread the shock and strain.

TERRY - Thanks. Don't have it here at the moment, so will check, but your answer has me puzzled? This stuff won't take a nail; it almost feels/sounds like tempered Masonite or the old sheet asbestos? I got nowhere with a drill bit - strange? Maybe I didn't use enough pressure.
Was it you that told me that my Norcold LP fridg would not work above 5000'?
I have an RV guy I met owns Kelly's RV Service in Apple Valley who says should work 7-8000'. Anyway, he is going to check it out and put SAT TV in it - I just received the H24 receiver and will take it up to him in a couple weeks.

Good afternoon. It's 59 and extremely windy.
I just happened to look at my automated scam blocker on my cell phone, and there were 42 blocked calls, all from the same number, and all over the last three days. it was an 888 number, and a quick check of the number showed whose it is.

Onstar.

I take back some of the bad things I said about my cell carrier and cell phone manufacturer...

Sherrel, no, I didn't tell you the Norcold fridge wouldn't work above 5000'.
A glance at the post count shows it's time for a new coffee shop. I'll post back here in a few minutes with a link.
