Ken - We have had DirecTV ever since they were available here. The prices have been steadily going up, and the added fees for HD equipment, but out here it is probably the best option. One thing I can say about them is that they probably heve the best customer servive I have seen. A few years ago, we were putting a new roof on the house and wanted the dish moved from the roof ( a pain in the butt when snow covers the dish) and relocated to the front porch. With just a days notice, they had a guy out and took care of my request. We are also with AT&T, have been sinc ethey bought out Alltel, and we also get $25 a month off from DirecTV plus free HBO. (Haven't watched it yet). Not much of a choice up here for wireless carriers. The only 2 national carriers are AT&T and Verizon.

HELLO ! I see Curt has already checked in. Deb and I got power back just an hour ago. First thing was to brew HOT COFFEE .No damage to home-oak tree lost three small limbs. I've spoken to SHERREL and LOUIS and of course CURT. I think he has forgiven me for overlooking his birthday.
Small things to do on front porch-furniture goes back etc.
Only five pages to catch up on. Prayers for all, back later.

Phil - Great to hear from you and to know that your damage is minimal. Guess you dodged a bullet. That cup of coffee must have tasted wonderful.

Afternoon fellers. I'm at it again with the go go go stuff. Interviewed with Coke today for a mechanic position. Same union as I'm currently a member of. Better hours and a better retirement plan. Hopefully odds are in my favor. Tomorrow I get to go see the tax man. Personal property tax time for me. Whew!!! I'm sure the weekend will get here eventually. Nothing for my layout thus far. I have a walthers kit I need to finish painting and putting together. Probably soon as the misses is irritated that it is taking up cabinet space. I'll check in later with y'all.

Afternoon All,

We got our WiFi back today so I don't have to use the data plan on the phone to post. I'm glad to see Phil and Deb made out so well. We still can't get hold of our friend Jon. I hope it's just because he lives out in the boonies.

It took 2 days but everything is cleaned up here. We have a mountain of tree branches and yard bags on the street. I met our new neighbors yesterday. They moved in immediately before the storm. I still need my son-in-law to get on the roof to look for damage. We had a bunch of small pieces of shingles down. I'm scared to death of heights and we have a 2 story house so I won't do that job.

My son found the rustoleum bisque spray paint at Ace while he was there. I'm too bushed to mess with it today after being out in the heat for hours so tomorrow I will spray some on a piece of styrene and take a photo of it. I also decided that the styrene "concrete" floor is not big enough to look right so I need to redo the 3 pieces. Oh well, for sale signs are cheap.

I'm worried about Eric and CA Dave not posting.

Justin- Good to see you back in the coffee shop.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I forgot to mention how much it means to me for the birthday wishes and I'm sure Phhil agrees that a means a lot to us for the storm well wishes and prayers. That is why this coffee shop is such a awesome place. Thanks again.

I'm here. Just haven't had anything to say really.
Did I ever post pics of my oil refinery with ALL the lights mounted and wired?
Other than finishing its wiring, I haven't done much else.
I did receive another box of stuff from my landlord in GA. Amongst all the stuff was 2 healthy spools of braided 14 ga. wire. I'll replace my existing track bus wires with this since it's substantially larger. I think what I have on there now is something like a 24 ga. wire.

Justin, I think somebody here said something about my Chessie GP9s. If you're interested in the Chessie/B&O engine, I can remove the non-sound decoder, and I'd take $75 for it. It's a nearly-new Genesis engine.

Hmm.....think you can send me a photo of it? I'm in the market for a decent high nose geep. I meant to respond to this sooner I just didn't have time to go back and look who had them.

I'll be brief! Spousal Unit and I are trying to get going on a short trip to the mountains where the temps are supposed to be in the mid 30's for the next several nights and about mid 60's during the day. Too many G-kids, football games, baseball games, soccer, you name it has made it difficult for us to get away!

Glad everyone is checking in and OK. Terrible scenes on the news. All my Kin and Friends seem to be OK with minor damage.
A blessing in these times!

Several people have asked about David aka Trussrod I have not talked to him in several days. He was calling me daily there for a while and spending a lot of time at the local Indian Casino trying to stay cool. I'll try and "ring him up" as the British say a little later when I pause for a rest.

Terry that "somebody" would be me. :)

If I am not mistaken I think Justin would prefer the Chessie/C&O version, if you still have it that is.

That one is the DCC/sound version... I suppose I could swap shells, they are identical drives, other than the decoder and speaker.

Oooo.....a C&O one! I'd take either. I don't discriminate roads. To me they are the Chessie roads and there's always a home on my layout for any of them. Even Western Maryland. C&O is just my favorite of them. I guess for good reason. I have been raised around the C&O Allegheny Subdivision and the southern West Virginia coalfields.

Let's not complicate things. I'll take either of the two. Just know I owe the tax man this week along with my union dues so it would have to be next week before I could make a move on any of them. Just know I'm highly interested. But all things considered you don't have to change anything around.

Hope all is well with everybody. The pain recedes at a glacial pace, hunkered down and waiting for the day I don't hurt anymore. Please get the shingles vaccine if you have had chicken-pox and are over 50. I'll check back in a month or so if it stops hurting. Bad, bad, very, bad attitude from the constant pain, I'll come back when I got a more positive outlook and maybe some track photos, all please have an excellent fall.

Happy Rolling.

I'll already be pulling a shell to remove the decoder, it's not that much more work to swap shells when I have the job half done to begin with. Just let me know if you'd rather have a C&O Geep or a B&O Geep.
I should be able to get it taken care of before next week.

Good evening, 68° and muggy tonight. I did get the lawn cut and trimmed, and finished the weed removal from the flower beds. the vegetable and herb gardens are about done for the year. i do expect a few more tomatoes and peppers before it's all over.

Nice to see Justin, Eric and Bruce checking in. Bruce, Hope you get over the Shingles quickly. Justin, good luck with the prospective job.

Spent some time in the basement again, classified an "inbound" train and set up tomorrows operating problem. I also corrected a couple of problems, and found two more that need to be fixed, tomorrow. I have lost momentum with this build, although, I have established that my planning is sound and that this layout will work operationally. I have a long way to go before it begins to resemble, some of my fellow forum members layouts.
As I write this, the O's have finally ended their losing streak, beating Toronto 2-1. Yankees next. How 'bout the Indians winning 21 straight? Awesome.
