Good morning. 51 degrees to start off the say with an expected high in the mid 80's again. Still have very heavy smoke.
Would have checked in earlier but got interested in Toot's video. Nice to see these locomotives preserved. The couplers sure did seem interesting.
Ken D&J. Enjoy it op there in PA. It would be hard for me to pass up a trip to Horseshoe Curve. Was up there back in the late 70's. A lot of railroad history, but if there aren't many trains running, ?????
Joe - You're a man after my own heart, sticking with DC. For me the sound on the few DCC locomotives is more of a novelty. I usually only run them at home for visitors. I really enjoy the performance of the straight DC locomotives that I have. No need for sound or running multiple trains for me. Thanks for the prototype information the Alco units. Nothing like getting it from the horses mouth.
Terry - I am not going to touch another DCC locomotive. If I ever get the RS-1 back, it will run the way it is. If it doesn't run, it may just sit on a siding or possible take a trip to the s**t can. I'll stick with simple.
Gene- Good luck down there. Seeing the reports of what the storm has done to the islands, it is not pretty. Phil - Hope you have battened down the hatches. The reports on the storm track don't look good for the state of Florida. I am a bit concerned about my place in the keys, but we do have flood and hurricane insurance on the place. After my friends did all of the renovations we went over the insurance with a fine tooth comb to make sure that we had everything covered. The main level of the house is 16 feet above the ground so we are hoping it is above the storm surge. A lot will depend on where the storm hits. All of the furniture and anything else that could be moved out of the lower level where thay have set up a bunk room for the kids have been moved to the upper level. The only thing that can be damaged down there is a bathroom.
Was on the phone with Greg yesterday getting everything I need to work on the detailing of the two Stewart F units. Really suprised that they had everything in stock except the firecracker antennas. Greg had talked wit the guys at Walthers and they said that it would be easier for me to call them and put in the order. Greg emailed all of the info and we'll put the order in this morning. I am a bit jealous because Walthers appears to be his local hobby shop.
Tonight is the first night of bowling league. It will be nice to reconnect with the people on the league. We have probably the best league in town according to the owners of the lanes. It will be our 21st year bowling with the same couple. We also go to nationals with them.
Here's the rail picture for the day.
