    Default Seaweed

Has anyone on this forum modelled seaweed or has seen it modelled in HO scale?

That's quite an interesting site Mark.
The weed that's on the high tide mark is not Kelp it is what we called eel grass, (probably incorrectly named, i have no idea of what it actually named). Wow! if I were to model this the first thing that comes to mind is a very fine short hair found woven beneath the long hair coat on most retrievers or large long haired dogs. At present I have the task of combing this stuff out of the legs on our Newfoundland dog. LOL next time I do the paws I'll photograph some. (Hell of a great stuff for breeding fleas)

We get that stuff down hear in MA too along with other stuff. Not sure of the best way to model it as it has an odd color to it but it sounds like you have a good idea.

Yep! color is the problem it's usually black to dark brown with grey'ish strands woven in. Our Newfie is black and dark brown on the front of her legs. I combed her this morning, and after seeing the photo that was the first thing that came to mind. Another problem is the comb I use (very fine tooth) was made in the USA, I seriously doubt if you'd ever find one for sale these days. Well constructed with stainless steel, certainly not China.

I found a site where coloured strands from cotton balls are used to make seaweed.

    Look forward to that photo.

I may have to resort to hair to make beach wrack.

jeepers forgot about that, then there's more stuff, while cutting PVC sewer pipe with mitre saw the (dirt; dust; whatever) kind of reminded me of seeweed, then Q tips would be another source. guess I better get at doing something with the camera.

I'll try cutting different materials with different blades and examine the dust.

I was shucking corn today and thought this might work as beach wrack/seaweed.
