Has anyone notice that walthers is bringing back the Ashland steel mill series.
this is great news there are some items on the website now. a lot of them are
to be in stock later this year and next year. structures, figures and rolling stock.
check it out the prices are not that bad.

Did see the announcements. The mill series has always been popular with model railroaders and steel mill modelers. Also new this time around, a newly tooled "late" EMD NW2 switcher, perfect for work in a mill.

Really excited about this announcement! Finally we can purchase the whole set if we want. The prices on eBay were getting ridiculous!

Maybe Walthers decided to "get in on the action", if ya knows whut I mean.;)

Could very well be! Hopefully it will be a hot seller, and be in stock for a while. It will be pricey to purchase all at once. Though a few of those buildings don’t look terrible to scratch build.

Some of the more "basic" looking buildings like the rolling mill or electric furnace can definitely be easily and less expensively scratchbuilt if you're just representing the exterior shape. But these kits also have interior detail for the rolling stands, furnace, metal ladles, etc.

If you don't want/need an interior I'd definitely scratchbuild with textured sheet. If you want an interior, these kits provide at least some of that detail.
