The American War department send a number of Locomotives after teh 2nd WW to India. These were named AWD class 2-8-2 and used for goods (freight) service. Many were also used for some passenger service. Here is one operating over the Tiger Pass bridge on my layout in Indian Railway colors. Teh loco has syncronized smoke and is in typical Northern Railway (NR) livery.

Vikram, were these meter gauge? I've been googling and haven't come up with good info. There was a "MacArthur" meter gauge 2-8-2 used from Greece to Alaska (the Alaskan ones 3-foot gauge).

Hi,

The MacArthur was a meter gauge(2-8-2) called the MAWD class in India. A link to the restoration of one: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/trains/india27.htm
Here is a picture of it:

The AWD (2-8-2) [as on my layout] were broad gauge (5 ft 6 in (1,676 mm)) gauge suppplied by US war department.
