Thickness of an Athearn shell?

I've decided that instead of modeling the F40PH-2C, I'm going to model an MBTA GP40MC. I'll be starting off with an Athearn GP40x, but I know I need to lengthen it. What size of sheet styrene matches up with the Athearn shell is my question?

My guess is generally around 3/32nds, (.093) There are likely many places on a shell that will measure more or less than this.

The reason I ask is because I need to lengthen the GP40x to fit over a Dash 8 set of chassis since that's the closest to the length of the MBTA GP40mc. But I think I got my answer! Thanks guys, I do appreciate the help!

If you still need to know, the thickness on my GP40X's varies from .055" to .062" depending on where it is measured. That is slightly over 3/64".
