Swaying engine

My engine on my HO railroad sways from side to side when running. I checked the track and it is secured to the bed. Bed is glued to table top. Any ideas what may cause this?

Does it do it throughout the whole layout, or just certain sections, like over turnouts?

If it is a diesel then possibly a truck is not on tight enough, or a motor mount worn or not seated correctly. If a steam loco perhaps the wheels aren't quartered properly.

Sounds like it might have one or more wheels off-center on their axle(s). An axle could be bent. What brand is it? Might not be cost effective to repair, and replacement of parts could be problematic. If it is a particular road paint scheme, or if it has sentimental value, you might be well advised to buy an F7 and swap the bodies.

The engine was part of the train that my mom got me mid 60's. She has passed away from Cancer in 1989 so it does have sentimental value. I'm in the process of refinishing the exterior paint and decals so maybe your suggestion is the answer. That could solve all my problems. Now to find an engine in Sante Fe red and silver color scheme. Thanks

Ok, thanks. I'll check it out. The engine is an old F2 diesel from the 1960s.
I believe an F2 would be a Model Power brand, also rebranded as MRC. I am not familiar enough with them to know anything specific that would make it sway.

They still make them, but the hooks are probably different from back then.

Edit - Post Script - I do not endorse any of the aforementioned vendors. I just searched for the model.

Stand by, I may have you covered -will look today!
I have a shell - Santa Fe - that I bought at a garage sale that I was not sure what it was - It looks exactly like that. I also have a powered chassis from another model.
If it will fit the shell - it's yours for the asking - plus mailing costs.
I will check it out later today if you are interested.

I would be inclined to think its the truck mounting. If the frame isn't properly seated on the truck, it will tend to sway as you described.
