Sw9 / Sw1200?

Just wondering what, if any differences there are between an SW9 and an SW1200. I'm looking to model an SW1200, and i've seen able to find a couple SW9's. Just wondering if I could use an SW9 for my project....

The SW9 and SW1200 are nearly identical outwardly.......

SW9 has 6 louvers in the battery box behind the cab, where as the SW1200 has 5. Although SW1200s built between 1/54 and 3/55 have the six as well, and are indistinguishable from the SW9s.

Either model would be fine if you're going to kitbash it into a SW1200RS. By the time you're done making all the changes, no one will know if it started out as a 900 or 1200.

well that worked itself out. Last weekend at the local train show, my brother-in-law and father-in-law spotted an SW1200, already with the RS detail parts in the old green and yellow CN scheme, and scooped it up for me for a whopping 10 bucks. I've just got to strip the paint, clean it up, and paint and decal it for my chosen scheme....

anyone know a good way to take paint off a locomotive shell?
