Ken, I'm very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's times like this that make us who live in and around Maryland feel secure in knowing we are in the epicenter of state of the art medicine. God knows I complain all the time about the cost of health care, but I'm always grateful for them helping me to feel better, I'm just cheap.
Knowing you are a man of faith is comforting as well, Godspeed my friend.

The action car is Mickey Mouse and Bad Pete.
The other car is a Tropicana car.
Very cool and both may do well on eBay if you are still using eBay. I have not keep up with values but as of a few years ago anything Mickey Mouse sold well and all action cars sold well. Tropicana was also a good item to sell. There is even the Florida Citrus Model Train Society.

On the other hand if you have little ones visiting over the holidays they will enjoy the Mickey Mouse action car.

Good morning Everybody!

My time is growing short because I'm escorting my wife to court this morning. She has to testify against a low life scum bag for attempting to commit credit card fraud in her store.

When you see his front, it's scary 'cause you know he's coming for you. When you see his back, it's usually when you're on yours, and he just ran over you. If you can see it then, at least you're still alive.

I'm no longer known as Big Lou, I'm just Louis or Pop now. No bad reputation associated with those names.

Even when I was known as Big Lou I lived by the motto "don't start no shit and there won't be none" Besides, my Nanny made me promise to never swing first and I have always kept that promise. The reason for my bad reputation was other people didn't always tell the truth.

Or swung first.

Good morning everyone. 72 and humid out there.

Ken - prayers for your situation

Went down to the modeling bench and worked on that bottle of PollyScale paint that I couldn't get open last night. Tapped the cap a few more times with a knife, then grabbed the cap with a piece of sandpaper, and "Voila!" (that's French for, "It opened!"). So I painted all the exterior walls with the D&RGW Freight Car Red. I spray painted the windows and doors gray. I'll see how I like that color combination. I'd post progress photos but there's not much detail to these DPM structures - they go together pretty fast. Will definitely post a photo or two when it's finished.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning Guys. A warm morning at 78° and absolutely clear skies. Heat advisory in effect today even though it's only expected to hit 97°, oh well, that's what pools are for. Cold front coming later this week, highs only in the lower 90's. How about a couple of sausage, egg and cheese biscuits this morning Francine; they will go well with a tall glass if ice-cold OJ.
Nothing new on the home front as I enter the sixth day of "home-alone". Keeping up with the household tasks and taking care of the granddog. She's not especially frisky in this warmer weather, preferring to stay inside with the AC. I did get the new toilet installed in the long delayed bathroom remodel a few days ago, works as well as expected and no leaks. Old one worked just fine but my wife wanted a new one anyway, they're cheaper than a new wife.

Thanks to all who commented or liked yesterday's photos; Jerome, Dave, Louis, Garry, Patrick, Phil, Sherrel, Chet, Curt, Ken, Tom, Johnny.
I lost track of the gondola scrap loads that I posted, so rather than post a duplicate, I'll switch back to loaded flat cars. Both of these are Athearn Blue Box cars with loads from Jaeger. I think that the company is still around but they have no web presence.

Meanwhile out in the train shed yesterday, I made progress with the scenery/details upgrade. Nothing to post today as I didn't quite finish what I started. Still working on the chicken yard and made some trees for that property. Also moved left to work on the very small feed store that will finish that strip of blank plywood. I'll post a picture(s) tomorrow.

Patrick - That's a great collection that your daughter scored in the auction. All of those cars, especially the blue box ones, can be easily made into some very acceptable running equipment. See the Tyco gondola that I posted a picture of yesterday. Some might be good only to practice weathering on though.
Johnny -
what is your weathering technique you used on that DPM structure you posted a photo of yesterday? I like the effect you got.
It's been quite a while since I did that structure, but I looked closely at it yesterday and I believe that I used a combination of dry-brushing and powdered chalk. In case you're not familiar with the terms (you are a newbie still?), powdered chalk is an old-fashioned method where you scrape pieces of chalk with a razor blade into powder, and use it like weathering powder. Weathering powder is a much improved method and that's what I use these days. Dry-brushing is dipping your paintbrush into paint, wiping most of it off and lightly brushing it on the structure. The sign is a dry transfer from Woodland Scenics.
Sherrel - Broken steps? Just tell them to sit in the doorway and roll in!

If you're making plans for tomorrow, remember that it is 7-11 day. Free Slurpees at all locations if that's your thing. Meanwhile today is National Kitten Day as well as National Pina Colada Day; both should put a smile on your face.

Everyone have a great day.

Well, DRAT!
Couldn't get the steps to work, so I built a wood set that can be easily shoved into the door area when traveling. Made it three steps high which is adding one more step that the automatic ones. Wife likes it - more easy for her to climb in and out of the "house area".
With any luck, I should be able to help her load the rest of her "stuff" and get out the door by noon time.
I have a couple more issues to deal with, but I cannot write about them without cluttering up the language with lots of words
that are not nice!

It'd supposed to be 88* today (normal is 90*), last year eas 89* and the record was 103* in 2012.

KEN: Prayers for success on the surgery and a speedy recovery.
Willie, GREG, LASM, Patrick, and ALL! Thanks for all the pics!

Gotta run - SWMBO is calling my name.

Good morning. Been playing hokey from the forum for a few days. Been really busy but did see many posts on the phone. We had some out of state friends visit for a couple of days over the weekend and I was going to try to bowl for the first time since my surgery. Got to the lanes at 10 am but they were on summer hours and didn't open until 1 PM. Being that I was in town, I broke down and bought a new recliner. The springs in the seat broke after 15 years on my old recliner. Today I am meeting my friend who is on our bowling team for lunch and then will give bowling a try. Tomorrow is op session at the club in Livingston and then on Friday we're having out old gas stove that we hear the house with in thee winter replaced. The old one is over 20 years old and the new one is a lot more efficient using outside air for combustion.

Willie
- You posted some really nice photos. The scene with the insta-fence and dog house is cool. You also had some great flat car loads. One of our club members is really into flat car loads and has quite a collection.

Johnny
- good photos. Like the five and dime store.

Dave
- Like the close up of the CNW geep. Cool photo.

keN
- I have the same problem when I go down to the train room to work on projects. I just end up running trains a lot of the time.

Louis - Nice family photos.

Patrick - You got quite a haul there. Hope the price was right.

Greg - A couple of good photos. Like them.

IB Ken - Good luck on the surgery. Hope everything come out for the best. Prayers.

Haven't seen the train room for over a week. Just have had too many other things going on.

Later

Good morning, all, 70 and sunny, headed for 75!

Looking to shape up for a beautiful day!

Willie: Really nice flat car loads. Mine usually run empty, or I put logs on them

Ken: Prayers for your health

Sherrel: smart solution to your steps repair!

Will share another picture of my Wyoming depot I finished a couple years ago. Potato warehouse in the foreground:

Have a great day! Dave

Good Morning Everyone....sunny and again humid. Down to the trains real soon.

Yesterday morning when to the Custom Auto Body Shop for a 8:00 AM appointment and the owner made it seem that the $500 he quoted a few days ago was just a number he threw at me and the job would be closer to $1,300. I didn't like that in front of my wife he basically said I didn't know what I was talking about and right then adnnd there I decided to go a Body Shop near our cabin who has treated us just fine. The owner of the cabin body shop had done work for us and the cost is reasonable.

The tree trimming crews finished yesterday afternoon and their work looks fine. The company was contracted by the power company to clear the lines. Usually they do a butcher job but we stressed that will not work for us.

Rough night last night after I was stung by a wasp or bee last week in the left side above a rib. Lots of swelling and hurts when I move. Took a power nap yesterday and slept from 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM. I never had a reaction like this from a bug bite

First order of business is to pack up several locomotives and more cabooses for weathering. It was a project for yesterday, but I never started it.

Before I run a train or two I need to re-rail a ore train that hit a freigth on a siding that didn't pull pass the fouling point.

Yesterday, I when to a LSH to find some cheap cars to practice weathering on. The owner raised all his prices and I think he'll price himself out of the market. Older Tyco cars were $12-15.00 each and others well above swap meet prices like a common box car for $10.00. He used to have cars for a buck each.

Dave: Great photo of the warehouse.

Off to the cabin this weekend and hope to go to a chicken Bar-B-Que on the weekend. There's two events and one is for the local fire department and the another a local bar and grill in the middle of nowhere. I haven't gone to one for several years. I always take my own salt and pepper since the promoters never seem to have ought to go around and people will ask me if I could let have some salt or pepper from my stock. One even offered me a beer in exchange. These events are a great way to see people that we haven't talked to in months.

Better get going....

Greg

The MNS car was part of an estate sale and I purchased maybe 12 cars in a lot. The MNS was a short line in Minnesota and was owned by the SOO Line. -Greg

Good morning ...

Willie ... Great looking loaded flat cars.
Dave ... Nice photo of boxcars.
Greg ..... I remember the MNS. Nice boxcar.
Chet...... Like you, I've not had model railroad time for while. Too much other stuff going on.

Everybody .... Have a great Wednesday.

Morning all,

I think she has about $160 in that stuff. That includes about $70 in shipping due to the expected weight. I think it went a little high, but with the bulk being Great Northern and as Willie said, some of it would be good cars to practice weathering on. I know if it were new it would be more and there is stuff I can use.

Those were pictures from the Auction site, so I don't know exactly what I have until the stuff gets here. Based on the last train show I was at, I think we did ok, but not as good as the last one we got for $30 and was able to pickup locally, which saved some money.

Whats funny about it all is the more I want steam Locos, the more Diesels I get...lol At least they're mostly the change over period or close to it.

I was watching a show the other night about the moon landing and it occurred to me that there was less then 20 years between the death of steam and Space travel.

One question....How did the Coffee Shop get its named Running Bear's Coffee Shop?

Greg

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but...

At one time it was the ANPL Coffee shop, just a place to discuss off topic stuff. There was a member here (Jeffrey-Wimberly) that used Running Bear as a handle. He was known here as Jeffrey-Wimberly. He was well liked and very knowledgeable about making due with what you had. He was notorious for creating running diesels from multiple types (aka frakendiesel). As I recall he passed due to complications of diabetes and cancer? I was a member here under a different handle and knew Jeffrey well. The monthly coffee shop thread was renamed in his honor.

Greg ..... Jeff (Running Bear) participated in several model train forums, and was popular in each of them. He was 50% Cherokee and was very proud of his Native American heritage. He was very resourceful, and had a lot of fun with his creative approach to model railroading on a very limited budget. .... I met him in the Model Railroader forum. As his health deteriorated, I offered to communicate on other forums to keep his forum friends updated. I spoke on the phone with Jeff, and later with his father a few times to get the news. .... It was very sad when he passed away. He was just 51 years old if I recall correctly. . .......... I decided to keep posting here after that because I like guys who participate here.

I thought he had some Native American heritage, a.k.a. the running bear handle. Is his old train board still up and running? It was pretty dead the last time I was on it a year or 2 after he passed.

Greg,Garry-- thanks for the comments on the photo

About Jeffrey, I remember a photo where he had some Bachmann ez track and regular atlas attached, something I was surprised to see but something I have done on numerous occasions

He also did a lot of stuff with computers and stuff I did not even understand.

I forgot about his computer stuff. He was working with some older Apple][+ computers as I recall. Stuff I and most tossed many years earlier. He was a man with more time and curiosity than money. He seemed to make the most with what he had available.

And I just checked on his old board, it is just a notice that he is hopefully resting in peace.

Good Afternoon Everyone..................sunny, hot and humid.

Packed up two boxes of HO items for weathering. Off to the post office in a few minutes.

It felt good to be in the train room for a while this morning. Found that I have at least three Atlas "cheap" #342 decoders. The work well with Atlas locomotives and are easy to install.

Thanks for the answer on Running Bear's Coffee Shop.

Patrick:
Only 20 years from steam to the moon!!! My grandmother when from the horse and buggy days to jet travel. I have her diary of a three day train trip from Milwaukee to Washington, DC in the early 1950's. Later in her life she traveled to Washington via a jet in a matter of hours. Amazing.

Willie:
Nice loads.

Off to the post office....

Greg
