Good morning Shop Dwellers, happy Independence Day to all! 86*F, sunny and muggy here with on-and-off T-storms being predicted for the region all day.

Went to Mount Airy last night to watch their fireworks display, at MOH's request. She didn't want to go this evening since she has to work Friday and didn't want to be up too late. Probably worked out better for all of us, given tonight's lousy weather predictions.

A hearty THANKS to all who commented and 'liked' my thread about Dave Hughes' WM layout!

Gonna try to apply some scenery on the layout today since I'll have a stretch of several hours free to focus on it, and my energy level seems to be ok.

Have a happy and safe holiday everyone!

Good morning all, and a happy 4th of July!

We had some convenient fireworks last night, less than a mile away right out our living room window. Big golf course over there and they had a fantastic show, makes me think of the Star Spangled Banner!

Flo- by the way-Just coffee and rice checks, please.

78 and sunny, looks stacking up to be a pretty nice day. May work on a new refrigerator car came from ebay Tuesday. If I feel really ambitious will start putting the depot together.

Greg-- beautiful photo with caboose and gondola!

Willie-- really nice scrap loads, excellent detail!

Chet-- outstanding scene at the icing platform

We are driving an 88 suburban for our pickup truck right now. I joke to my wife we should take it up to our (rich) relatives and park it in their driveway, I am sure they will think some homeless people are visiting. The 'burby has a strong motor (350) with throttle body injection (as opposed to the carburetor) which gives it dependable, smooth acceleration. Also 4 wheel drive. I really like it. Aside from that, it is paid for.

Found this view of the old layout, shows about a third of it. I never really captured this perspective, shows Grovemont and the Sawmill in the background:

Everyone have a safe holiday, Dave

Good Morning - Happy Independence Day!
Supposed to reach 82* this day (normal is 90*) last year was 89* and the record of 98* was 2007.

Spousal Unit is off early to view the local parade that is held in the "old" downtown section of the city.
Our resident in town G-Son is marching in the parade (one of the bands) and the wife wanted to see him participate. I would like to have as well, however, there will be 15,000 people elbow to elbow in a very crowded area + having to park and walk a half mile away - been there, done that ONCE - that's enough!

After noontime, we will adjourn to the MIL's home 6 miles out of town for the local family BD swim party and barbeque.
One of our BUNCO crowd lives in the shadow of the local Casino which always has a really great fireworks show - they really go all out - We have been invited there as well, but may, or not go - may have too much party to make it. If we stay that late at the MIL's we can view both the fireworks shows of the Casino and the City from her home where we can see them both at the same time - just can't hear the BOOM!

My only job this morning is to round up HOT DOGS for the cookout. Don't worry, there will be lots of other stuff as well!

Happy Fourth of July Everyone..............sunny and warm and maybe a thunderstorm later in the day.

Showered and have to pot up three Jade plants that I have made cuttings from a mature plant that was at least 36 years old and four feet tall. The plant developed a stem rot and the cuttings will keep the plant alive. The cuttings have been rooting in water and its time to transfer them to potting soil. I did six cuttings in all.

Willie: The Woodland Scenic's guy in the photo has a pick ax in his hands. He's starting to cleanup area around the water trying to loosen the ballast that has fallen from the right-of-way. I like your gondola loads....are the pieces of junk glued in place? In Wisconsin its legal to purchase most types of fireworks, but illegal to set them off. Around the cabin the lake people try to out each other with fireworks starting on the third of July and this weekend until Saturday night.

Chet: Nice photo of the icing platform. Have a fun day operating at the Livingston Club layout.

Terry: Poor Alfred E Neuman passing into history.

Dave: Great photograph of your former layout.

Thanks everyone for the comments on the caboose and SOO gondola photograph.

Greg

Happy 4th of July to everyone -- Happy Independence Day in the US!

At 5:30am it was 58F. At 10:30am it is 70F. Supposed to get to 89F today.

There was a neighborhood breakfast this morning and a kids bicycle/etc parade for the 4th afterward. Had to get up to cook a bunch of sausage -- our contribution. Now it is time for a nap (been stressful at work and spent several days in a row on 3.5-5 hours sleep). Off to my Uncle's for supper and then fireworks in his city.

Today or tomorrow I may get to the trains again. Have not run anything in a few months. Busy planning the house we are building next year as well as deadlines at work. I need to work on my DIY lightboard testing and write-ups and get that posted.

Keep the train pics coming. I like to see what others are doing.

Happy Independence Day . On the third, bought a fifth for the fourth. Hope all have a SAFE day. No rockets or bullets thru the roof.
91* and going higher. Humidity high, feel like a sauna outside.
Phil

I DIDN"T MEAN TO PUSH ALL YOUR BUTTONS- I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR MUTE

Bullets in the air was a NYE tradition, if memory from my east coaster days is less fuzzy than my face.

Well, someone changed the wether forecast on me. It had gotten into the high 70s I think (on the way into the 80s) and a "cold front" moved through, it rained a thundered for 30-45 min, cleared up and is now sunny and 66F.

Had a nice nap. Then I got a call from a team leader who is based in Canada, so doesn't have the day off, and I may have misinterpreted something I had been working on the last week :(

Happy 4th to all!

Sherrell- no boom-booms sounds like a good thing to me. We live close enough to an open area(pond next to city zoo, a couple blocks away) that we can watch the boomers without dealing with the noise, crowds & traffic.

Good morning. It's cloudy and 70.
The dog had a bad night last night, she is terrified of thunder and fireworks, and some of the asshats in the neighborhood were setting off fireworks until 3am. By extension, that means I had a bad night, because I was up until 3am with her.

Good morning. 78* and MUGGY. Take soap and towel outside and can bathe .
Expect 94* and t/s's later Had multiple storms yesterday. . Cleared out about 7:30 so fireworks went off till late.
Things to do so I'll be back later.
Prayers for all,
Phil

MY GPS SAYS "ETA" .I SEE TIME TO BEAT AND THE RACE IS ON.

Good Morning All. Hot and muggy this morning with mostly cloudy skies and 76°. At least we have a 9 mph breeze to help. How about pancakes and bacon this morning Francine.
Watched a fantastic fireworks show sponsored by the country club across the road from my brothers house in suburban Dallas last night. They shot them much higher and with more frequency than in the past few years. Had a double finale, first one followed by 3-4 more minutes of bursts, then a second finale. Then I had to go pick up my daughter's dog on the way home while she/family goes on vacation. Saw some more pretty impressive fireworks being shot off by locals in the last four miles home. Seems that even the stuff sold by the fireworks stands was more impressive this year. Passed a stand five miles from home that was doing some major business at 11:45 last night. Probably selling really cheap by then.

Thanks; Tom, Jerome, Chet, Ken, Dave, Sherrel, Greg, Phil; for the likes and comments on the gondola loads yesterday. Here's a few purchased loads, mainly from Chooch, who make gondola loads in addition to the flat car loads pictured last week.
We're looking at a Walther's gondola here.

Here's a visiting WP gondola made by P2K.

And finally today, another very old model, this one from ConCor.

Not much to report from the train shed yesterday, I am just planting trees around the red house and fabricating details.

Dave - Thanks for the overall view. It puts all of the other pictures into perspective now.
Garry - Always liked that parade picture.
Joe - Don't be such a stranger.

Today is National Bikini Day. Enjoy it if you can. Please don't post your selfies Beady!
