Good morning, everybody .... Trees are full of ice here the morning....

Dave Truckdad .... Thanks for sharing your picture on the Amtrak train in the heavy snow.

Phil ..... 77 and sunny ??? :( ... Rubbing it in or what ? .... LOL

Sherrel .... I think you were saying you had flooding in your area and would be headed to another location because of that. .... I'm not sure though.... Best wishes.

Slow progress with my coal mine. I have the structures and buildings put together, and now I am weathering them. I still have too many interruptions of non-model-railroad stuff.

Do you have any weather, today?

Mark: As a matter of fact, we do. 39°, with brilliant sunshine. The days high temperature was 55° at Midnight.

This highlights the problem, we swing from one extreme to the other without considering consequences.

Louis: That's because of how we receive our news and information. We only hear what the producers want to emphasize. Not for nothing, most great solutions evolve from radical ideas thrown out for debate. Our biggest problem is uncompromising polarization, something that both sides are guilty of.

The replacement desktop is working like I expected the original one to work.

Terry: Nice to hear something worked out in your favor. You do need a break.

that road use to be 50mph, now it's 35mph and the traffic was flowing at 50. The speed camera was flashing light a strobe light.

Speed Cameras and Traffic Light cameras, are strictly fund raisers, that solely benefit our corrupt politicians, auto insurers and the folks who sell them to our governments. They do not promote safety. Lowering the speed limit from 50mph to 35mph, is an indication that at 50, the camera was not raising sufficient revenue to meet the cost of operation.

Daylight (visible) here is 11h 52m. Tomorrow will be 1m 52s longer.

Willie: I was up just after 0600, and it was already getting light to the East.

Have a great weekend.

Boris

With the wholesale price of milk below $0.15 per gallon they won't have to do anything. The farmers will be trimming their herds

Poor babies, they collectively just got 8 Billion in new Farm Subsidies, so what's their problem? Retail price per Gallon of whole milk in Jersey is up to $4.50, due to government price supports. So much for the free market.

I see your point, but what I left out is that road use to be 50mph, now it's 35mph and the traffic was flowing at 50. The speed camera was flashing light a strobe light. Still it's no excuse, I should have known better.

Got nabbed by one picking #2 son from Reagan National on his return from China 2 years ago. $40.00 fine and a nice pic of the Impala!

The Donner Pass trip from Colfax to Reno and back showed our group of 12 some great scenery. However, Amtrak was 3 hrs late right out of the chute on Wed, and after several stops, including one for a crew change 5 minutes after we stopped at Truckee, we made Reno. 85 miles. 12;pm - 8:30pm. Coming back yesterday, train was 2 hrs late arriving, then sat in the station for an hour+ while the pass got plowed, then after 3 stops for plowing and allowing more important E/B freights & the #6 Amtrak to pass we made it back to Colfax. 7 hrs and 85 miles. At one time, our car, the last one on the train was stopped just inside a tunnel, great view for 1 1/4 hr. But, we all had our "refreshments" and no place to be and a good time was had by all.

Good Morning Everyone.......................sunny and clear here in this part of Wisconsin.

Yesterday, I finally unboxed my new Rapido, C&NW Budd Diesel Rail Car (RDC) and put it on my workbench's test track. I could help but notice the great attention to detail with the manufacture applied hand rails, safety chains, window curtains, grill work, interior lighting, classification marker lights and other details that make this an exceptional model. I purchased the sound version with the ESU LokSound decoder. I had the model sitting on the test track for at least ten minutes just taking in the quality of this model.

The model is impressive at just over 11 and half inches long and the stainless steel body is accurately reproduced. Rapido states that the model will run on a 18 radius, but that is very generous and the RDC should be run on a at least 22 inch, if not 27 inch minium radius to look right. Side clearance is also a factor and I'll need to move one utility pole and a spruce tree that the RDC side swipes.

After reading for the second time the instruction manual for the RDC, the manual is both straight forward and humorous at the same time. Rapido believes if you didn't read the manual, don't blame anyone but yourself if you break something. I finally turned on the DCC power and pressed the function 8 button on my Digitrax 402 throttle and the RDC produced the engine start up. First came on the compressors and then one diesel motor and then the second diesel and I actually believe that the unit has two separate speakers since the engine sound seams to be separated with one diesel in the front of the unit and the othr to the rear although I could be mistaken.

The sound decoder produces Lok Sound's usual high quality sounds. The prototype RDC had only four speed notches and so does the model. Out of the box the RDC has three different horn effects one being a grade crossing. The LokSound decoder produces actual rail car engine sounds.

At first when I placed the RDC on the layout t looked liked it was missing other passenger cars and an engine consist. That was until it started moving and the headlights and motor sounds gave it away as a rail car. One word of caution, the RDC is not intended to pull rolling stock since the RDC's two drive motors and drive assemblies are small.

I did other thread on "My Favorite Locomotive" and while this isn't a locomotive per-say, I would place it on the top of my list for motive power! I really like this model.

Sorry, this turned into a RDC Thread but if you are thinking purchasing a RDC don't delay too long since many have been sold out and a limited number are available. I ordered mine in October and just received it.

A doodle bug provides the main passenger service on the C M & N, but the RDC will do mainline runs.

Just a few items to do with the income tax forms and then lunch followed by trains.

Greg, I also have a Rapido RDC, which is now the sole passenger power on my layout. I got it to replace all the passenger equipment I had when I belonged to a club. When I left, a long passenger train was horribly out of place on the home layout.
The only "flaw" about the RDC I have, is the sound of the compressor is terribly loud, and can't be adjusted low enough to not be able to hear a scale mile and a half away. The later runs had this issue addressed.
Maybe I can email Rapido, and see if they have an updated sound file for it, that I can load.

I'm not sure when they lowered the speed on Erdman Ave south of Sinclair lane. I know in the past many cars could reach 100mph + on that stretch. It's a good road with good visibility. For those who are unfamiliar with it, its a dived road with 3 lanes in each direction in a mixed use area, residential, retail and industrial.

I'm not against speed cameras, but I don't like paying the fines. I'm not even certain they got me. All I know is the traffic, including me was traveling at about 50mph when the "light show" started. I looked down and my speed was just under 50mph, but speed cameras in Baltimore are set at 12mph over the speed limit which was only 35mph. My trouble comes from driving as conditions safely allow. I need to pay more attention to the speed limits. I've logged over a million miles professionally and never had an accident.

Before I started driving professionally I have had a few. When I was 17 I had a pole jump in front of me, that was my story and I stuck to it, but I had my old friends Jack Daniels, Budweiser and other substances I won't mention copiloting. My question was "why would somebody use so much concrete to secure a mailbox poll?" I tore up my 76 Olds! I was an idiot, thank God I never killed anybody.

I learned the hard way, I try to drive defensively, I try to avoid being involved in any accident. Over a year ago I guy backed into me at the bank. That broke my long streak (over 30 years) of no accidents.

Boris Milk in Baltimore at discounts stores Aldi, Sav-a-lot is $1 per gallon for whole milk, even Walmart sells it for that. I buy Cloverland Diary's milk from my wife's store for $2.99 per gallon.

On the way to our cabin, we pass several "Milk Factories" who have dairy herds in the thousands of animals. It's amazing to see the number of semi-tankers that haul the semi-liquid cow manure from holding tanks to local fields for fertilizer. There are countless number of trucks making these runs.

The aroma is breathtaking!!!

The FRA considers RDCs, MUs and Cab Cars as locomotives. I'm still waiting for my RDG RDC2 to show itself. Jason advised they are coming in bunches. I'm curious about what it sounds like, running without the sound. My other Rapido RDC, is a bit noisy. It's a DC version, witout factory installed sound.

I'm not against speed cameras,

I am totally against speed cameras and traffic light cams. They are strictly fund raisers, and do nothing to establish who the driver is. The camera system targets the registered owner not the driver.

I have a problem with motor vehicle laws, in general, because most are not designed to enhance safety, but to raise money for governments, insurers , vendors, and trial lawyers. If the proof of insurance card exceeds or is short of the prescribed dimensions specified by the statute, the operator is subject to fine. Cops working in fund raising towns actually carry rulers to verify dimensional compliance.

BTW: Last time I received a summons and paid a fine, was in Delaware, in 1974, for going 27mph in a 25mph zone. So it's not like I a habitual offender, I just don't like excessive regulation that targets the population on the whole to benefit a food chain headed by politicians.

Why Trump wants you to be afraid of high speed trains

Like everything out of El Supremos mouth, it contradicts something he supposedly favored before. California, is one location where HSR would be beneficial to the public, succeed. and reduce dependence on automobiles. Lets face it, the biggest opposition comes from vested interests that don't want a competitor. Some of these potential competitors are contributors to certain political PACs.

There is a town in central Florida that was forcibly dis-incorporated, and its police force dissolved, because its traffic enforcement division was used strictly as a revenue generator.
There is a town in central Florida that was forcibly dis-incorporated, and its police force dissolved, because its traffic enforcement division was used strictly as a revenue generator.
Snicker, ;), I wish we could do that here. Unfortunately, it's not practical. Jersey has a fine State Police organization. 21 County Governments, 529 Municipal Governments, (and 535 school districts), all with taxing power, and most with some sort of law enforcement force. In locations with high crime, of course, the police have a lot to do, other than enforce traffic laws. Towns blessed with low crime rates, turn their police against the residents and taxpayers, to enhance municipal and state revenue. These departments selectively enforce nickel and dime statutes, such as expired inspection sticker, or obstructed license tags or driving on the shoulder or other minor crap, strictly to increase collections. The people of NJ are sheep. They complain about high taxes, and tolls and auto insurance rates, but keep re-electing the same politicians that benefit from the things they complain about.

Realistically, we could go to countywide school systems and police and fire departments, but the voters fear loss of local "home rule"... So we have status quo.

The state did away with traffic light cams, when it became known, that the vendor providing the service was charging people who complied with the traffic signal with violations. A few dash cams brought this to light. That was the end of the cameras. remains to be seen how the new progressive, (millionaire socialist), Governor will do. He has never met a revenue source he didn't approve of.
