I recently called comcast because my cable bill went up. They told me they no longer offer the bundle I had and I would have to trim my channels to reduce the price. I was not happy so they offered to upgrade me to "gig speed" internet and give me Netflix for no additional cost. I thought that's better than paying more for nothing. They said I would have to pay a $40 installation fee because the modem has to be professionally installed. The only thing the guy did was measure my signal strength at each TV and replace the modem. At least I know my rewiring job was good, but I knew that, I did it! And they gave m a $25 credit. "Big deal, whippy do!"

Netflix is pretty cool. I watched the Hans Solo movie when I woke up this morning. I started it on the living room TV, then came down to make coffee in the family room and continued the movie while I waited for the coffee. After the coffee was ready I went back to the living room to finish the movie. I enjoyed the movie and It works great and Netflix has all the features of comcast on demand. At $270+ change/month at least I am enjoying it. Now that I think of it that is almost $10/day for the month of February. I have all the movie channels, DVR on all 4 TVs, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and other stuff I have seldom or never used. At least I can access it all through one comcast remote. Along with home phone with many other features including international calling and Gig speed internet. I spend too much, but oh well, at least Laramie is back on Starz.

I went to bed to early last night, I woke up at 11:30pm and my old injuries were speaking to loud for me to go back to sleep. I'm going to take a nap before I get ready for work this afternoon.

Have a great day Everybody!

Louis, if you want to listen to ball games that aren’t broadcast in your area, find the website of the station covering the game, and click “listen now”.
Your van should be able to pair with your smart phone, and you can stream it from your phone to the van radio.

Good morning .... Coffee and donuts, please.

Joe, Curt, Louis, and anyone I missed .... Thanks for commenting on my Empire Builder photo.

Tom ..... Excellent weathering of the CSX locomotives.

Jim .... Beautiful photos especially the one in Pileville.

Sherrel ..... I am very glad to hear you may be cancer free by next year. .... Regarding travel for medical appointments , I can relate to that somewhat. My heart failure is being treated by Vanderbilt Heart Clinic which is in Nashville, over100 miles to drive each way. (Plus one emergency flight in a helicopter. ) The treatments have saved my life.

Willie .... Sorry to hear you are still having dental problems.

Terry, thank you, but I tried that. The games must be blacked out or something.

Good afternoon all,

+20 and sunny here today. Supposed to get more snow over the weekend, I guess we broke the all time record for the month of February, actually got an entire seasons snow in one month.

Louis-- I heard a very loud cardinal calling a couple days ago, seemed almost like someone had a recorded cardinal tweeting at me! Right along some woods by a major city street.

Tom-- superb weathering on loco's

Max-- great photo's!

Here is a shot of my old layout, the little green house is a simple scratch built affair, turned out to be one of my favorite buildings

Louis: Some markets don't broadcast early pre season games or televise them. Aren't the Nationals broadcast on both WTOP FM and WFED 1500 AM. You should be able to get them both in Metro Baltimore.. MLB.COM and ESPN.com usually have radio broadcast links.

Thanks for the concern Garry. It turns out that it was a previously installed crown that broke. I have a new temp now and a new permanent one in about three weeks. The good thing is I don't have to pay for it. Lifetime warranty. My dentist is being reimbursed by the lab that made the faulty ones that he has been replacing (new ones being made by another lab). Indeed this is the second one that he has done in my mouth.

Afternoon All,

Today I picked up the pool part, $214 after tax. Now to get SIL to help install it. He has the tools and a lot of PVC installation experience. I painted the bare spots brown on the siding project. Tomorrow we are taking our extended family out to lunch for daughter's 40th birthday. Sunday we are meeting friends so Monday is probably the first day back working on the layout.

Sherrel- Great health news for another year.

Beady- Very interesting techniques.

Tom- Nice looking diesels.

Max- Neat Pikeville picture along the river.

Dave- Great layout shot.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good Afternoon Everyone.............just got home after a ride to the cabin. We had the drive plowed open with 24+ inches of recent snow fall plus whatever fell before that. The snow in the back was up to Cathy's knees. Nice fresh air with the temperature in the low 30's.

Yesterday we were in Sussex, Wisconsin and I saw a UP south bound freight travel over a steel trestle with a CP west bound freight below just inside the east edge of Sussex where the UP has a trestle that dates back to the 1800's. The raised right of way is comprised of gravel from the local pits and was placed to keep the track level for approximately a mile or so. Where an old bridge crosses the vehicle roadway below its about 18-21 feet difference in grade.

We also saw that the old Milwaukee Road bug line which runs under the UP trackage is now an active snowmobile trail. There's an old wooden trestle on the Bug Line that crosses over the CP main line. I have some old rail spikes that are of the SO Line vintage from this area. We caught another south bound CP freight in Sussex head towards the rail fanning site of Du Plainville, Wisconsin, where the CP mainline crosses the CN.

Tomorrow, I'll work on the layout and hopefully get some projects completed.

My credit card statement came with the charges for the Budd DRC, a 70 tonner switchers and some other supplies. Not a word from the Mrs. who writes the checks. Then last week I took her to a large casino and she came home several hundred dollars ahead of the game after 3 hours of gaming. This maybe offset my hobby purchases.

Time to run..............

Greg

Another hopeful sign of Summer going soon.

I have watched with interest and glee at the reports of low temperatures and snowfall totals for the last several weeks.
Being in central Alabama, snow is not usually a problem. However, we have gotten plenty of rain this last week, over 6 inches here and about 8 inches at the lake where we have a trailer.
My wife was at the trailer Wednesday and my pontoon boat was on the ground in front of the dock. I heard on the TV this morning that the lake was at flood stage already and could go up another 5 to 7 feet, cresting late Sunday.
My wife and I rode up to the lake about noon today. The pontoon was still tied to the dock this time, but was floating about 15 inches above the dock. It took almost 30 minutes to wade out on the flooded dock and reach down into the water to untie three lines.
It took another hour to move a 24' pontoon 70 feet against the wind and current to a place it would not be on a dock when the water starts to recede. Yes, the water was rather cold and I am still thawing out.
I'll have to go back again next week and move the boat back to a place it can rest on the lake bottom when the water goes back to normal winter level. I guess I could spend a little time working on my N scale layout after we move the boat, if I don't get soaked.
For those blowing and shoveling snow, I can sympathize with you.

Well, Cyclone Oma is still moving slowly south in the coral sea, towards the top part of New South Wales, but well off the coast. It's a large storm, about 500 or so miles in diameter and continuing to affect the coastline with high winds and big surf. 10-15' waves close in and up to 20'+ offshore. Currently classed as a tropical low. It's expected to return northeast in a couple of days under the influence of high pressure systems moving off the coasts of the southern states and may once again strengthen in the warmer waters.
Certainly been a real wanderer and kept everyone guessing. If it becomes a Cyclone again, that'll earn it another name I guess.

Good Morning Guys. 44°, foggy and misting, thunderstorms forecast for later with the high only going up to 51°. A return to the 60's starting tomorrow. Kinda tired of all of this rain, but at least it isn't snow. Had a tooth break yesterday and I have a dentist appointment this morning at 9:00. Most likely will have a temporary crown put on for now with the permanent one ready in a couple of weeks. I hope that I won't need another implant.
Spent part of the afternoon in the train shed yesterday, continued on the project of adding scenery to the latest town. Added six motorcycles, several street signs, mailboxes, vehicles , people, other details and some more ground cover. Once again, all of the pictures turned out crappy. Problem is the large window across the aisle behind the scene is messing with the camera and I don't know how to make manual adjustments. I'll have to rig up a temporary backdrop to block the excessive light.

Chet - Best wishes on the surgery.
Sherrel - Good luck straightening out the bank transfer. Might just be a hiccup from President's Day.

No, it's actually El Nino returning after what seems like a decade of La Nina. That's what is causing our wetter than normal winter here.
Running for President? Go for it. If you win, then you get subsidized housing for four years.

Don't complain. CA is going to have HSR between two "farm towns".
Garry - Thanks. I'll be posting some more when I get across the road and finish the scenery on that side.
Joe - Thanks as well. I really like assembling these laser-cut wood structures. This town is totally different than my other DPM/Smalltown/Walther's type towns.
Beady - That old circuit board idea for making a structure look occupied is most excellent. Thanks for forwarding it to us. Wonder if it would work as well in HO. I'm going to give it a try.
Tom - Really nice job of weathering.
Curt - Fortunate find on the pool filter.
Louis -

I'll do the same, but they will be birds in my trees!
Jim - Thanks for the comment. I like those pictures that you posted in the middle of the night.

Everybody have a great Friday.

Willie:. The camera or phone more than likely offers metering settings; Full Screen Averaging, Centered Weighted and Spot ucMetering. I'd choose either of the last two although my preference is spot metering. Try not to let much of the brighter window light hit the camera lens which infulences the cameras exposure reading before taking the shot. One way to help alleviate side light from hitting the camera lens is to make a lens hood from something like a small medicine cup you cut the base off of it and paint it Flat Black on the inside at least, better on the outside as well. Then use Hob-E-Tack on the back edge so it will temporarily stick to the camera to shield the lens. If it's angeled it doesn't need to extend out more than an inch which should help considerably.

I tried to use my phone last year during the regular season, even our local broadcast of the Orioles was unavailable on the web. It's all about the money. I guess they want me to buy satellite radio and or some kind of subscription.

Reading through my comcast I can watch tv on my phone anywhere, but I like radio announcers, they are usually better at describing the games. Sometimes I wonder what game those TV guys are watching?

I can receive the nationals in Baltimore on those stations. When I'm working in other areas I scan the radio and find all kinds of stuff. That is how I found the capitals radio.

I'll look at MLB.com and ESPN. for games, thank you.

David, Cardinals are magnificent birds, we had a nest above our back fence last year. They drove me beagles crazy flying in and out. I hope they come back.

Nice work!

Good morning Everybody!

Did anybody get the tag on the truck that ran me over? My naps yesterday were no so good. Last night I slept over 6 hours that combined with the storm coming is letting me know where all of my arthritis is. The good thing about pain? It lets you know you are alive!

It's nice for Winter in Central Minnesota today, some flurry activity; but, right around +20 degrees, now. A couple weeks ago the local paper stated that our total snow accumulation had hit 45 inches and we've had maybe 12-15 inches since. We have a goodly supply of the white stuff, anyone need any? You pay the freight and you can have all you want!!

Black Hills Central Railroad #110, ex Weyerhauser Timber, 2-6-6-2T articulated Mallet, Baldwin, 1928, at Hill City, South Dakota, July 20, 2017.
Bryan Flint‎ - Steam Locomotive Photographs

My Grand Daughter, Grand Son Wife and I road the 1880s Steam Train out in the Black Hills in 2015. I don't know how many articulateds you can ride behind now-a-days and kind of think this might be the only one. This looks like one of Mantua's 2-6-6-2 articulated's, excepting the round saddle tanks.

Good Morning Everyone. 49° and very foggy after a brief rainshower during the last hour. .35" has fallen in the last 24 hours, supposed to clear up and hit 65° later today. It's actually warmer now than any time in the last few days. Wind out of the SE an hour ago, has shifted to SW for a while and then go NW after sunset before shifting to NE and once again to E by tomorrow afternoon. Kind of "around the clock" for a day! Did I mention that I am tired of this damn rain?
A lack of inspiration yesterday in the train shed allowed me to just run a few trains. Since I like switching, I made several switching runs to three different towns, as well as what ATSF referred to as "sweeper" trains, where I just went from one end of the layout to the other picking up various empties along the way. Now I have spots to deliver cars on the next run without having to remove all of the empties. Meanwhile I got a few good pictures of the progress in the new rural town.
First up is a few bikers headed for the tavern across the road from LaBosky's repair shop. There's a couple more mounting their choppers at the shop.

Please remember that these are still shots of "in-progress" work, and there is more to come.

Curt - Have a great lunch with your daughter. Funny how time flies, my oldest daughter celebrates 41 in about three more weeks. Major party last year for 40!
Mikey - Doesn't seem like moving the pontoon boat was much fun. Glad to read that you were able to do it safely and successfully.

Everybody have a great day.
