We had our Annual Christmas (lol) Over Sixty Gang Bunco Party at a local winery last evening ... and Santa showed up to take our wishes!
(I'm the oldest, next to the guy wearing the red sweater almost behind Santa)
Our daughter and SIL attended - they would be the exception!

I MENT TO BEHAVE BUT THERE ARE TOO MANY OPTIONS

Hi Shop Dwellers! 48*F, partly cloudy and breezy here in my corner of MD, with snow and freezing rain being predicted for tomorrow morning. Been busy as ever these past several days, but I have been working on the layout (more about that in a minute).

B-Bob, good to have you back - and congrats on the retirement!

Beady - been there done that with the elder care experience. My MIL was 90 when she first moved in with my family, then my wife and sister-in-law in Alabama took turns having her live with them for 3-month periods. She had dementia and was extremely hard of hearing, so we often had to repeat ourselves 2 or 3 times before she understood what we said. As a result of growing up during the Depression, she was extremely reluctant to throw ANYTHING away (including perishable foods long past their use-by date). Once when I was scraping out a pot into the trashcan after supper, she immediately ran to the trashcan and started pulling things out of it; I asked her why, and she replied in a very stern tone, "Those lima beans you threw out were PERFECTLY good!" (I let my wife gently escort her away from the trashcan...) Eventually she wound up permanently moving in with my SIL's family, and passed away in their home at age 92. My FIL and my own parents each passed away before reaching "assisted living" age, which spared us much of the agony.

I've been focused on the area around my cement distributor lineside industry, which is supposed to resemble a graded gravel lot with wheel ruts from the semi's that get loaded up with bulk cement powder. I'll probably have to post a separate thread about it since I took so many in-progress shots and encountered so many problems with it. But here is an overall view of what the "exit" end looked like, where the semi's emerge and then do a 180* turn on their way off the property:

I still need to throw down more random shrubbery and grass clumps, and apply static grass on the spur track.

Can't stay any longer now, MOH wants to round up all the young'uns [within the region] and go chop down a Christmas tree. It's a family tradition, she always waits until the max number of kids are free to join us for this event; I just hope that there are still some trees left on the tree farm for us to cut down this late in the season!

Toodles...

Afternoon All,

Did chores earlier then hazarded a trip to Wally World which was crowded but quick at the checkout!

Beady- Nothing says Christmas like cancer or COPD:)

Willie- Nice job on the hardware store.

CA Dave- Happy Birthday.

Willie- Nice photo. It's good to know that Louis is doing OK.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Curt: Somehow, your reply caused me to laugh out loud. I do remember when a carton of Marlboro was an acceptable gift...I also remember receiving cartons of cigarettes and bottles of liquor as Christmas gifts. Not exactly the most healthy gifts, but back then, it was very acceptable.

Ken: nice progress, not exactly the easiest thing to replicate either.

Sherrel: Love the Garfield cartoon.

Willie: I actually bookmarked thoe threads where you detailed your wife's progress. My neighbor, chose to cut short his Physical therapy, and he spends a lot of time gimping around. Not for nothing, my gait is better than his, and right now, I'm pretty much bone on bone. Everyone recovers at a different rate, but you reap what you sow...

Mother in law is supposed to be released from the rehab tomorrow, and returned to assisted living. I seriously doubt that she put forth any real effort, which may be why her insurer cut her allocated time at the rehab.

I hung two 36" wreaths and ran the wires, to the timer. Everything should work. If I feel ambitious tomorrow, I'll run a string of LEDs across the gutter for effect. Like multi-color lights.

Nice to hear that Louis is doing OK. Hopefully, he will be back with us sooner, rather than later.

Boris

Good Morning All. 48° and quite foggy again this morning. Oh my! Sherrel is up early again today. Mixed bag with the upcoming weather, less than magnificent days Monday and Friday, with pleasant days in between and leading up to Christmas.
Loaded omelet and some ham today Flo.

Thanks for the likes and comments yesterday regarding the progress on the Hardware Store; Phil, Joe, Sherrel, Jerome, Ken, Tom, Garry.

Continued small progress in the train shed yesterday. Grrrrh! The camera battery went out so no update pictures today. I'm a bit burned out on it right now, so I started running trains instead. My, these ScaleTrains Dash9's run exceptionally well. They also speed match (I'm DC) their SD40-2's very well, which Santa Fe MU'd regularly up to the end.
So let's hit the archive once again for a picture. How about a street corner in downtown Maultown.

Joe - Best of luck with the knee replacement. As you might remember my wife had it done back in the summer. While the knee is fully functional, (it was the minute they wheeled her out of the OR), she is still having pain in the surrounding muscles despite doing all of the PT. She feels that she should be over the pain despite the doctor telling her (many times) that the pain could last as much as a year. She really doesn't have any patience. The only time she has used the cane in the last three months is when she goes for a walk around our gravel driveway and accompanying gravel road, mainly for safety. The walker (nicknamed Hershel) was dropped after 2 1/2 weeks. She also did not do any PT prior to the surgery; the doctor scheduled it as soon as their schedules allowed immediately after seeing the X-rays.
Jim - You'll be finding fasteners for years to come.
David -
Happy Birthday.
I think that it is actually the 5th since Jeffrey's passing, sadly missed.

Regarding care-giving - I do wish all of you going through this right now, all of my thoughts and prayers. It is not easy, I didn't get to this stage because I have a live-in brother that took care of it, and fortunately neither of my parents reached the stage beyond needing a bit of physical help every now and then. Beyond all, we must remember that they are the reason that we are all here today.

Regarding Louis. I have been in contact with him. I thought that he would return when he got his new Lionel Polar Express set. Perhaps it isn't set up yet. He is doing well and pacing himself with the Amazon job.

Everybody have a great day.

Thanks for the Bday wish, Willie, it's appreciated. I wasn't sure about Jeffrey's passing, thought I had it saved in a file but can't find now. LoL

Your buildings and scenes look great as usual.

Where to start?

David- Happy birthday!

Beady, Beady, Beady-I darn near sprayed my iced tea all over my laptop! Been awhile since I laughed that hard!

Mikey-Thanks to you and Beady, I got in trouble for laughing so hard while my wife was watching TV!

Boris-Nice work on the firehouse.

Ken-Looks just like satellite view on Google Earth! Nice detail.

Jim-Nice Christmas pic of 2141. Any info about it?

Sherrel-Looks like everyone was having a good time.

Garry-I would love a chance to see your layout! We're going to Tennessee the third week of January. Maybe things will work out!

Willie-The buildings look great! I worked a summer detasseling corn when I was 13. Took my money to Western Auto and bought the first new bike I ever had. I took meticulous care of it, and though many asked to ride it, no one else did for several years. I KNEW how HARD I WORKED to earn the money to buy it and I wasn't going to let anyone wreck it but ME!

Hard to believe it's been 5 years without Jeffrey. He truly who did so much with so little! A real master at making things work!

I remember the first two or three Christmas's, where the workers would all chip in and get cigarettes or alcohol or sometimes both, depending on the boss's habits. I quit smoking almost 28 years ago. At least I made a few good choices in my life.

Hope Louis posts some, I was wondering about him too.

Need to run, see you all later!
