Good Afternoon Everyone.....sunny and cold here in this part of Wisconsin. I didn't get inspired today like I thought I would yesterday and I''m still siting in the home office on the PC. This cold of mine is getting worst. Just feel rather weak and heavy legs.

Tomorrow the Mrs is taking a day bus trip to a Casino that's actually near our cabin. She will be gone all day, so maybe I'll get downstairs for at least a half a day. Hope she wins some $$$. I like the bus trips myself and would like to drive a tour bus someday.

I'm trying to master how the expert weathering guys get that combo of black and rusting on the tops of their locomotives....like the staining by the rear stack. I'm not positive which comes first in the applications of colors.

A nice weathered Santa Fe locomotive for Willie's layout!-Greg

Maybe later a video on John Allen or Howard Zane to get inspired. I'm starting to master the remote control unit that came with our television. We only have a 32 inch in the living room by the fireplace to watch packer games, but would like to have a 60 inch installed on a ceiling pole in front of the fireplace.

That's all for now....

Greg

Afternoon All,

Helped the wife clean the refrigerator. We finally got the word that our homeowners insurance has approved the roof replacement (wind damage) :)and we meet with our roofer tomorrow. It will happen after the first of the year. I went to run trains but the track is so dirty the loco constantly started and stopped. I didn't have the energy or motivation to clean track today.

Mikey- Very cool photos.

Willie- They both look great, but the hardware store is more interesting to the eye IMHO.

Johnny- Same here, I've never heard that song.

Greg- Did you weather the loco?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Curt: I wished I could say that I weathered the Santa Fe locomotive, but I didn't. I do have several locomotives that are weathered by Steve on my home layout. He does excellent work and he's been featured on MRH on line and What's Neat by Ken Patterson.

Thanks for the link on "Hey Skinny Santa". I hadn't heard it before and from what I've seen, it is only a year or two old.

Good Morning All. 40° and clear. Another day of great weather here. My plans for a productive day in the train shed yesterday were sidetracked by Christmas. Got out the boxes of stuff that will not be used and sort through it again. Since downsizing the tree to 18" from 7', I just don't need all of this junk anymore.
Hey there Francine, you know that a bacon and cheese sandwich sounds great this morning. How much bacon? At least twice what fits.

Looks like building a laser-cut wood kit might just be my next project in the train shed. I am not ready for these structures yet, but I am itching to build one. Here's my two choices. What do you think?

Willie: most definitely the Majestic Hardware & Feed. Such a great looking building.

Or Stanley Stove & Boiler Company; which will be repurposed into a different industry.

Garry - Continued prayers for Shelly's mom.
Ken - I can relate to that rain/woodstove thing. I have a box that will hold about a 36 hour supply and keep a few extra logs stashed under the stove itself drying. Since most of my wood only gets wet on the outside, it dries pretty rapidly.
Everybody have a great day.
I personally like The Stanley Stove and Boiler Company

CambriaArea: Yes, Dan does nice weathering work, but he doesn't have the deep black to light rust effect that I'm lokinhg for in a weathered locomotive. I also like his fading of the basic locomotive colors.

Thanks.

Greg

Greg- I’m guessing she’s going to a Ho-Chuck casino, so Nekoosa(south of Rapids) or Wittenberg(between Wausau & Shawano)?

I thought it was him must be someone else but I did see someone taking a GE model and doing the burned and rust around the exhaust and looked very realistic.

Greg: that weathered Santa Fe is gorgeous! Actually, every inch of that photo is inspired. That is the level I would like to achieve someday

Thanks to those that liked my pictures.
I have a few more of the GT&T On30 layout.
The track runs through the watery swamp with wildlife.
My favorite part of the scene is the alligator with the water moccasin in his mouth.
At the other end, the layout has a creosote operation near the logging facility. Raw timber ties in and sticky, smelly black ties out.

...
Same here Willie, we have a a few racks the will hold up to ~150 logs altogether though we rarely ever have them stacked full. My problem this time, was that I underestimated the impact of not having direct sunlight to provide radiant heat [because of the thick rain cloud cover] on Sunday, so I only brought in half the amount of wood [on Saturday] that I should have gotten while they were still dry.

But it's all good, I melt-off a lot of calories hauling this wood :D!

...
IBKen - Hope they have all of the parts for yur furnace. May get chilly without a good source of heat.
...
Thanx Chet, the furnace is working once again - at least for the rest of the current season.

In other news...I found a CVS Minute Clinic in my area that actually had Shingrix in stock, so I went in and got my initial vaccination today. I still remember the horror stories our friend "New Guy" Bruce shared about his Shingles sufferings, never want to go thru something like that myself [hope he's doing ok]! I got the injection 6 hours ago and, as of now, I'm not yet experiencing any of the nastier side effects.

No layout scenery project time today so nothing to report on that. Maybe tomorrow...[?]
