Just had another crash, possibly (probably) update related. A short while ago I clicked onto the desktop icon for this forum and crash. Black screen, eventual restart, all desktop icons rearranged again. Consulted Windows update, no indication of anything newly installed or waiting till I did the search. Up comes a security update for Defender, so I start it. Eventually tells me it's installed, so I check update history. Nowhere to be found. Last one yesterday, totally unrelated. There are times like this I wish I'd stuck with 7.

Decided to check for updates again, sure enough same virus definition, update KB2267602. Download and install. No record in update history.

Good morning. It's cloudy and 45.
Ray, while we were visiting my sister in law last weekend, her Surface Pro tablet updated itself to the latest version. When it got finished, it had eliminated all her apps and add-on programs she had installed. When she tried re-installing them, the computer informed her they were already installed, just not accessible. I checked with Microsoft, and this is a known issue, but "we're working on it". i ended up dumping the update, and reverting to the previous build. Of course, then she had to re-install everything, but at least she was able to do so. She was not amused...

Good morning gang.
37 degrees and cloudy, going to the lower 50s wth warmer temps and rain for tomorrow.
Have a great one!

Good morning everyone. 55 and cloudy. Bottom drops out here tonight, too, with a wintry mix and 13 for a low!!

MBKlein shipped my order yesterday. Wahoo!! Need the shipment for landscaping and ballasting.

Nothing much more to report today.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning Gang. 51° and clear right now. Around noon, the winds will start coming from the North at 25mph and the temperature will steadily drop to 24° overnight. Might even rain. Cold weather in store for the next week then back into the 60's. Going to make that 50 mile grocery/beer trip today, which will eat up most of the morning. Didn't mention it previously, but I am dogsitting my other "granddog" for a few days while my daughter and SIL are at the CES in Las Vegas this week. This is his first extended visit. In keeping with precedent, he threw up in my wife's car on the way over here. He is also a "farter"! He did like chasing cows yesterday, although I don't know what he would do if he caught one.
Out in the train shed, I continued on my mission to organize stuff. One of the partial projects that I came across a few days ago, is a resin cement mixer made back in the 80's by Magnuson. I have been slowly assembling it and got to the point of applying primer paint yesterday. Anyone that has assembled one of their vehicles (I have maybe 20), already knows that these are not top of the line models. Much filing, trimming and fitting is required, and my next step of attaching and aligning the cast metal wheels will be quite time-consuming for me. I also found an unassembled Bachmann Signal Tower that is useless to me, but I am assembling it to give to a friend's nine year old boy who is interested in trains and has a large double track loop layout (8' x 24'), on an enclosed second floor front porch. I have previously made him some "converter cars" with KD couplers on one end and horn-hooks on the other to use with his new store-bought locomotives and the crate full of Craigslist freight cars that his mama got him.

Trig - Thanks for inquiring about WIX, and thanks to both Eric and Gary P for their responses. I hadn't really given much thought about a website lately, (thought about 20 years ago when I didn't have time), but your interest has made me re-think about the possibility.
Terry - What is the medication that your insurance won't pay for? I've never had an insurance provider not pay at least partially for a prescription...but I went from reputable (big name, Aetna, Blue Cross etc) employer sponsored drug plans to one of my choice of one when I switched to Medicare, so I don't have a lot of interaction with them. Actually $17 for six pills might be worth the price, although I understand your frustration with the insurance company.
Jesse - Interesting thing about my wife going back to work, she took an income tax class so she could better deal with our taxes which were becoming more complicated at the time. Next thing is that she got offers of employment from three different HR Block offices. She accepted one nearby (22 miles) and is still there. Nice gig working 3 1/2 months a year, unless she teaches classes part time in the fall.
Sherrel - There is no quitting time, days off or vacations when you're retired! You're correct though; I do like to keep busy around the estate. Example: the trees that I am planting now will be firewood 20-25 years from now! And the garden, you know how I feel about that.
Justin - Since I heat with only wood I can only imagine how much the electric bill shot up. My water bill goes up during cold snaps because I drip selected faucets as a precautionary measure.
Chet - Have fun with the new blower!
Toot - Must be serious, I got updates two days in a row for Win7, but it went well with no apparent changes.

Everybody have a great day.

Willie

I was in a hurry, but life seems to be telling me to slow down. Car, tooth, family getting sick, etc. I still plan to buy my switches before I stick the track I (I already have an industry building built and it seems like a waste to not put it on a spur) then I can focus on the details.

Don't complain. Wait til stage 4-c hits you right in the mouth.
I don't know if I'll ever be right again.

Willie, United will pay for 4 tablets a month, with a $7 copay. If I need more, I have to pay for them out of pocket. When first prescribed, I was allowed 24 per month, then the next time our insurance was renewed, it was 12 per month, then 6, now 4. I am being strong-armed into finding alternative medications over the counter or else paying out of pocket or suffering without. My premiums have doubled, and my deductible has skyrocketed from $1000 to $10000, and coverages have been slashed. My copay for the headache specialist yesterday was $60, and the copay for the treadmill test (until last year was zero copay) was $30.

sounds like obama-care at it's finest.

Willie - I like the sound of only working 3-4 months out of 12. If my business takes off I'll have to work more than that, but if I plan right and get a little lucky, I may be able to take the winter off. Would be nice to only go out on the cold if it was necessary.

BigE - I retract my previous complaint. I hate that for you. I watched the Big C take my dad when I was 15. That is something I would never wish on anyone. It's just as hard on those that go through it with the one that has it. I remember feeling so helpless because I knew there was nothing I could do but watch and wait for the inevitable. I only had about 2 good years with him (long story) and it really messed me up for a long time after that.

I have a question for the guys that do track design the old school way. What tools do I need to properly sketch out a line on paper? I want to get my curves proportionate, but have no idea where to even start with drawing from scratch. Thanks y'all.

Then you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.
It all sucks. I'm still waiting for that hole in my throat to close up.
Probably going to be another month. Don't know if I'll ever drink fluids like real people.
Swallowing will likely be a few surgeries away --- cha ching cha ching ..... I ain't got.

Unfortunately, I do. They took my dad's vocal chords out. Had a hole in his throat until the day he died. On the weekends I spent with him I had to help "feed" his liquid meals into his tube. Was a very difficult experience for a kid. Kinda went off the deep end for about 3 years after that. There were other factors that played into it, but I was in a dark, dark place for a long time.

Good morning. Another white knuckle trip to work this morning. 22 degrees and the roads are still a sheet of ice. Normally this isn't too bad, but they started construction to widen a road and it is a pain when a 4 lane comes dow to two lanes and weaves through a maze of cones and barrels. Doing it in the dark doesn't make things easier either.

Terry and Toot - Those updates can be a major pain in the butt. A couple of years ago my wifes bowling program wouldn't let here access the program. After taking with tech support from the IT department who made the program, I found out that the update included an IE update. We mainly use Firefox, but being that Internet Explored was still on the computer, it fouled up access to the program. I deleted the update to IE and it cured the problem.

Karl - Send the 50 degrees up here so the roads will clear off.

Willie - That dog sounds like the dog from hell. One of ours fart from time to time and can clear out a room in no time. You are correct about the Magnuson vehicles. I picked up a few years ago and they can be a pain and as you mentioned, the details aren't the best. Tried some Sylvan vehicles with the same results.

Here's a rail photo for today.

Later

Terry - Sounds like unaffordable health care.

Johnny - Glad MB Klein finally got your goodies shipped.

Jesse, after trying Atlas, Scarm, Cadrail and a few others, I went with Anyrail. It's free, its easy, and it works great with flextrack. You set your minimum radius, and the program will not let you go smaller. Wider yes, smaller no. I've got mine set to 28" minimum, though most are 36+.
Also there is a large library of items. Buildings, trees, bridges, etc, as well as sectional track and turnouts.

Been in that very same place, feeding tubes and all...my Dad had ALS and it took him a year and a half to die by millimeters from it. Deep end is not even close, I tried to commit suicide by neglect, I don't recommend it, it takes a long time and is very painful. We come out the other side...not well, but we come through.

The Cancer INDUSTRY killed my Mom and they scare me worse than communists. Money grubbing killers is all they are. Try to kill the patient to try to kill the cancer? What is this? The middle ages?

Chet: Nice photo. Does the source list a better location? I've been there, but I cannot place the location. Perhaps the Clementon Branch of the PRSL? It's clearly rural, and stick rail.

Karl: "Anyrail", eh? I'll give it a try. I don't have any luck with these programs.

Terry: That plan sucks. Is it employer sponsored or Marketplace? With a 10K deductible, it's Catastrophic Care coverage. I use United, (UHC), for a supplement, full coverage employer plan, and they still try to squeeze you and weasel out of paying. My Rx. plan is with United (United American), also a employer plan, and they are always trying to convince me to go to a cheaper medication. I only use one Name Brand drug, and take half the recommended dosage, that is alternate day instead of daily, so 90 days lasts 180 days, and they still want me to go to a cheaper, less effective product.

It's 49°, cloudy and damp. First time since mid December, that the temperature has not gone below freezing in a 24 hour period.

Good late morning Everyone. Temp is 49 going to a high of 74 today. Clouds are gone and we are back to clear skies. Rain water was 5.5 inches in my "non-scientific" bucket - a friend just north in Corona (35 miles?) said they got 7 inches +!

Have two important pressing issues today. Have to take the RV in for repair - noticed an oily patch in the driveway - its friggin transmission oil - someting is amiss for sure. As it was starting to rain, I did not crawl under to see where it might be coming from. Only has 7700 miles on it! I hate auto problems with a passion!

If the "trannie" problem is not enough - Have to mail the IRS an additional payment of $5,000 prior to the 15th for selling a rental property last year that I barely rented for enough to cover the expenses, selling it for less than I paid for it, but owe "recapture" for the depreciation taken over the years.

Sure glad to see that you guys back east of the rockies are getting a break on the cold temps.

I've tried those all with varying degrees of success. I want to start drawing my own by hand when I don't have access to my laptop. Sometimes an idea hits me at work, but I don't want to just sketch it free hand (I'm terrible at drawing curves)

I know what you mean. After dad passed, mom and stepdad relocated the family from Jacksonville FL to Monroe NC. After a couple of years of problems at school, no friends, and a couple of psycho females, I got my license and a hot rod Nova. Took the passive aggressive approach to suicide. Didn't actively try to kill myself with the car, but didn't really try to prevent it either. I didn't eat. I drank too much. Smoked like a freight train, even though I knew that was why my dad got the Big C. I was a jerk to everyone. Then I met my wife. And life changed real quick.
