Good morning everyone,

I'm glad to read that most if not all of the forum members are Ok, after Irma caused such a tremendous amount of damage. Some of the pictures I've seen it really devistated various areas. My heart goes out to those that sustained much of any damage as most seemed too, unfortunately!

I didn't go back to see who asked about me to thank each personally but I do thank Sherrel for alerting me that several of you asked about me. As he stated, I've been going over to Chukchansi Casino daily as the temperatures were extremely high and my evaporative cooler isn't working but probably wouldn't do too much good anyway when the Humidity was high.
I just go there to hang out and talk with friends I've made, many of whom also are there for the same reason as it's a nice cool place with high ceilings and a very good ventilation system to suck all the cigrette smoke up and out. Oh Pepsi and other soft drinks plus coffee are free. It's only 5 miles from my home so fairly close.

There was a very bad fire that started at the Yoemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad that has #10 & #15 Shays there. The first local reports I saw of the bad fire said it burned down every thing. Well that just wasn't true. The engine house and both Shays as well as other structures such as the ticket office & gift shop are still there as they had their own fire equipment as they are at about 5,000 ft. elevation with lots of large Sugar Pine Trees as well as Ponderosa & Cedar trees. The fire was started by a tree service that was supposed to cut some limbs off some trees that were over hanging some power lines. They did just that, but screwed up big time by not waiting for PG&E, 'Pacific Gas & Electric' to turn the power off in those lines first. I'm sure the fire burned 5,000 acres and I think it approached 6,000 + acres. The fire was quite intense and borade bomers loaded with fire retardant were coming in every 15 minutes to try and get a handle of the fire. The main reason it was so bad was that there was a lot of under brush and dead limbs laying on the forest floor that had built up over the past many years. I live approximately 18 miles from that area an at one point, the winds carried very tiny little burnt branches all the way to my location which I found on the sun roof of my car which sits outside.

Even though the name says Yosemite Mountain, it is still outside and South of Yosemite Nat. Park Entrance by about 4-5 miles. There were also 4 other fires burning in other local locations too!

Hope all have a very good day and week.

Morning fellers,
Cloudy and 62 here.

A creepy scene appeared across the highway/street in the cornfield this morning.
About 200' yards out is a fog bank that makes it look like something out of a Steven King movie. What was the name of that? "The Mist"? Yeah, if I see some dinosaur looking thing walk by my windows, I'm staying in!!! ;)

Good morning, y'all. 68° and foggy. I'm guessing that the September fog is widespread.

Good to hear you are OK, David.

Good Morning All. 64° and clear right now. I'll be back in about an hour after I get a couple of things squared away and watch a few minutes of Fox Business News.

Good morning everyone. 56 heading for 87 today. Sun, sun, sun!! Summer's back!!

Eric - glad to hear from you and that all is okay.
Curt, Phil, others in FL - Hope all is okay after the storm. we lived in Lakeland for five years (2002-2007) including 2004 when four named hurricanes hit the state plus a couple of tropical storms. We learned to board our windows those years - the smell of wet plywood is not enticing! (I'd rather smell fresh coffee!)

Trainroom - just some minor scenery work last night, grass, bushes, etc., and adding some real stones from our yard to some of the mountain areas. Got to run out to the LHS after work today to get a few pieces of cork roadbed for the new siding I'm adding.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning ...

David Trussrod .... Great to see you again !... Sounds like a bad fire, but it is good to know the railroad there is okay.

Bruce .... Sad to hear about your shingles. Good of you to advise people to get the vaccine.

Eric ... I did see your photos of the lighted oil refinery. Again, you did a great job.

Karl ... Glad to hear about your two weeks of hell being nearly over.

Joe .... Sounds like you are having fun operating your layout.

Phil and Curt ... Glad you are doing okay. Other parts of Florida are still without power according to the news.
.....

I worked on the layout yesterday. I am just beginning to fill a corner with track, structures, and scenery ... First step is a bridge I worked on yesterday.

Good morning. Looks like fall is on its way up here. Started off at 51 degrees but the high may get up to only 60. Yesterday afternoon we finally got some showers. Had a few downpours with more rain and even the possibility of snow in the higher elevations. Tomorrows high is only expected to be in the mid 40's.

Trussrod - Was wondering how you were doing. It has been a while. We have been putting up with fires up here for a couple of months. Over a million acres have burned here in Montana alone.

Justin - Hope your interview goes well. Good luck.

Curt - It does sound like you are getting back to somewhere near normal. Hope there's no problems with the roof.

Bruce - Slow recovery is better than none. Shingles are not fun at all. Hoping that things get better soon. (I never has chicken pox)

Karl - I'm sure you'll be thankful when the marathon is over. Time to relax?

Phil - Great to see you posting. Glad you got through the storm alright.

My friends all arrived back home in Florida and found minimal if any damage to their homes. Got a call from them last night and they got in tough with an old pilot friend of mine and being that the situation in the Keys are so bad and the road still closed, they are thinking of taking a quick trip to fly over the house to see how it fares. The problem is finding fuel. Avgas is also in short supply as gasoline is now the priority for Florida.

Here's my rails picture for the day.

Good Morning again. A bit of a late start today. The local school bus broke down about 500' down the road and I headed down to be nosy! Stayed to watch the wrecker hook up and begin the journey back. A different bus driven by the principal came to get the kids and driver. Giving up on the fall garden this year. The current lack of rain is taking it's toll. No more than I have planted is not worth the effort to irrigate, as the adjoining ground just sucks the moisture away anyway. Not too much worry, as I preserved so much in the spring and early summer that I will have a surplus when things start producing next spring. My usual Thursday morning grocery/beer trip has been postponed until tomorrow since my wife wants to go but has a dental appointment this morning.
Out in the train shed, I planted the remaining stash of trees that I made recently. I have lots of material to make more, but that is my least favorite aspect of modeling. Hope that I remember to take pictures today.

Chet - Wow! A Winter Weather Advisory already. We're just beginning to see the return of summer. 91° yesterday and 95° forecast for today.
Justin - Good luck with the potential job change.
Bruce - Sorry to hear that the pain is not receding more quickly. Best wishes.
David - Great to see that all is well. That's good news regarding the Yoemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad property. It's also good that you seem to be out of range. Too many of these fires seem to be caused by human intervention.

Everybody have a great day.

Willie

Good morning early afternoon or whatever you call it....anyways my interview was a breeze. Not much can be said going from one beverage company to another. But all things said it's now the waiting game. Not really wanting to bug them too much. Anyways photo ops today. Like I said earlier. I don't discriminate against any of the Chessie roads. I have a B&O GP38 in Chessie paint sitting in the engine house as well. And well I have a C&O U-boat chase as well.

Golly mercy! I'm bored. Been up since around 12:30 this AM. Don't know why.
I go into the train room, look around and then leave. I don't seem to be in the mood to do anything.
I've already walked the property twice today. My FitBit watch says around 4300 steps today.
That's almost two miles. Not too bad I reckon. If I was still in GA, I probably would have walked to the lake and back which is about 5 miles total.
Anyway, nothing seems too interesting to do - including crosswords or soduko puzzles.

A lull in the days work here. No meetings to attend. No documents to review or author. Just a little slack time.
I found my C32-8 locomotive in a bin last night. I had forgot about it. It had a basic decoder in it so I logged it into the JMRI Decoder pro and tweaked the lighting features. It has an Overland chassis and a custom painted shell with detail parts applied. Southern Pacific road name. Yeah, I know, SP never bought them but the UP did. In my world, SP took this one from the UP by a dare between a couple of young engineers out on the town in a layover. They even took the time to paint it Lark Gray and number it. I'll run this one at the next Timonium show in October.

Afternoon All,

Did some chores inside today (thankfully) because it's a scorcher outside today. The heat index is 98 F with a clear sky and no breeze. I really feel for those still without power. I finally got hold of Jon today, he just got power back but his AC isn't working. He mainly had pool screen damage and a lot of debris in his yard.

I did a test of the bisque color today. It's really close and I did some weathering experiments on it. I took a picture but it just looks white whereas my eye can see the added color so no picture. I redid the pattern for the floor. This time I did it all in one piece, so tomorrow I hope to cut out the styrene I will actually be using. I also ordered all the things I need to make the facility. For the overhead lighting I plan on using copper tape instead of wire for most of it. I have seen several projects that have used this technique, and they have looked nice without all the wire for multiple lights.

Eric- Good to see you posting. I have had nights like yours.

Johnny- Pictures? You're right, 2004 was not a fun time. I live on the west side of Orlando but before Clermont.

NG- Sorry to hear you are still suffering from the Shingles. I hope you get relief soon.

CA Dave- I'm glad you're smart enough to find relief (that sounds bad but no insult is intended). Sounds like you are lucky having the casino so close.

Chet- Nice rail picture and videos. How are the wild fires doing up there?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Back from the cabin....

Chet: Heard on Sirius Radio that Montana is expecting rain or has it already has arrived. Hope it hepls extinguish the wild fires. Sis the detail parts arrive from Walthers?

Warm weather in Wisconsin, trees starting to change to fall colors. Mostly the ash.

Tomorrow some train work...back to working on my KATO Business car lighting project.

That's all.

Greg

Greg & Curt - The fires are still burning, but we're expecting cooler weather and some precipitation with a winter weather advisory for tomorrow at the higher elevations with rain and snow. The high for tomorrow is only supposed to be in the mid 40's which will help. Some scattered showers on Saturday and then clearing with temps in the 60's. Actually this is a bit late. We consider our growing season up here from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Anything longer than that is just luck. We usually get a frost a lot earlier in the year.

I guess that will be out fall, maybe all 6 days of it.
