As a manager for most of my 40+ year working career, one cardinal rule of mine was to never ask any hourly employee to work during their lunch break.Good evening.
I also had a "come to Jesus" conference with the sales expediter (manager???) right after lunch. I took a pair of minions with me, and we informed him that, as hourly employees, we didn't want to be bothered during our unpaid lunch hour. Further, if he asked us to perform our jobs while we were off the clock, we would immediately clock back in, and the company would be charged for the entire hour. We'll see how that ends.
Yeah- I worked in retail mgmt for 20+ years. Asking an hourly to work off the clock went against many corporate policies & federal wage laws.As a manager for most of my 40+ year working career, one cardinal rule of mine was to never ask any hourly employee to work during their lunch break.

In my rebellious youth, asking me to work on my unpaid time was a great way to earn a big F you and ensure that the rest if my time on the clock was less productive as well.
