There was a very pointed one-sided conversation with their general manager. He may have been more focused on his long-term health than saving the company the relatively few bucks they would save otherwise. No threats were made, but he seemed like a perceptive enough lad.

Afternoon All,

About all I have accomplished today is chores. Tomorrow the wife and I are at the school all day.

Has anyone heard anything about Garry?

Joe- Thank you. I'm always amazed by the amount of real world train things you know.

Louis- Nice photos and diner. I think you're going to need more track for all the buildings:).

Sherrel- Happy birthday again. Any day spent above the grass is a good day.

Willie- I like what you're doing.

Chet- Great video and photos.

Terry- Good news about the truck.

I don't think I posted this picture before. It's one of the previous F&C resin Pennsy FM flat car that I built. I put on a Laser Kit (AMB) wood deck and a pipe load from the same company that I sprayed with a rattle can.

I hope everyone has a good night.

The truck was on the lot when they experienced a severe hail storm. Several hundred vehicles were damaged, the one I have was not supposed to be one of them.
As I stood in front of the truck, looking at it in disgust after the transmission went *poof*, I noticed a dent in the hood. Then I noticed another dent. And another. Then over a dozen dents on the roof. They took some looking to see them, but now I’ve seen them, I can’t not see them.

Terry- Interesting info about the hail damage. A little bit of dry ice can get rid of most of them.

Out here there aren't enough people to fill the available jobs. There are Help Wanted signs all over the valley. We had our local Perkins close because they couldn't get enough help along with the Kentucky Fried Chicken. Burger King is reducing its hours. Noticed that they were closed when we came to town for bowling last Friday. McDonalds is hiring people by the day. We may not get a Hobby Lobby either. They were in search of 60 employees and had only 4 applicants. The shell of the building is complete but they may not even start work on the interior. My daughter in law works at Lowes and said that they would hire me in a New York minute with the experience I have in electrical, plumbing and construction. They are looking for at least 25 people. I called Safelite glass to get a rock chip repaired. I had to go to their shop to get it fixed because they couldn't find a technician to operate their service truck. Bozeman is a college town with Montana State University and years ago as soon as the college students came to town, there wasn't a job to be had. Not so any more. One problem is that employers don't want to pay a decent wage. This is probably the most expensive place in the state to live with all of the newbies moving into the area and driving housing prices out of the range of the going wages.

What are things like in your area?

Here's a must have for me, in fact he has 2 of them, different road numbers, but both the same price. The seller is offering other MRL stuff as well at more normal prices, which leads me to believe the identical prices on these 2 are not mistakes. I'm thinking of selling some organs to pay for them, but can't find any local Churches willing to part with theirs.

Interesting question.
Around here it depends on which way you go. North of here in our county seat of Gainesville, anybody that can pass a security clearance works across the Oklahoma border at the casino on the Indian reservation. That leaves only marginal employees for food places and convenience stores. No one available to assist you in WalMart or Home Depot. South of here in Denton, it is obvious that every food establishment is short-staffed. There are waiting lists to eat but some areas of the restaurant are closed because of lack of employees. Denton is a college town with two major public universities (UNT & TWU) with over 50,000 daily students. but many students commute from Dallas/Ft Worth, and don't work in Denton. Short-staffing is evident in all of the big-box stores, WalMart, Best Buy, Lowe's, Home Depot etc. Same with all of the major grocery stores. Almost every business has "Help Wanted" signs in the windows. Many even print it on their receipts. Some sectors of the construction industry are OK while others are not; so you might get half of your building made and then wait three or four weeks before a sheetrock crew can show up. I see construction crews working 12 or more hours even on Sunday because there is such a backlog. Housing prices haven't become a factor yet, despite many transplants from high tax areas; however the politics are becoming more "blue" because of this. It is a sellers market however.
I cannot comment much on all sectors in Dallas/Ft Worth since I am more removed from there. I do know that in the last four years the manufacturing plant that I managed has raised their starting wage from $8.50/hr, to $14/hr and still doesn't have but about 75% full staff. Turnover is nearly 80% yearly. They like many other manufacturers and businesses in the area, have dropped the "no convictions" from their hiring criteria. Bilingual employees are in high demand and can usually negotiate 30% or more in increased wages.
Most businesses in this area are in the $10/hr+ starting range so it is not the lack of wages.

Back home from the dealer.
They replaced the transmission, couldn't duplicate the issue with the air conditioner, aligned the front end, and set an appointment to repair the hail damage.
Considering the possibility of them trading me out of this Colorado, and into the truck I originally wanted. The salesman agreed if I traded to get away from a transmission problem, only to get another one, it isn't the best situation for any of us.

Check your state's lemon laws. Some states say that more than 2 trips to the dealer for the same issue in one year is a lemon, or similar. Just be aware of what they are so that if it gets to that point you can take the appropriate action.

Good evening .

Thanks to all who offered well wishes and prayers in response to my post a few days ago. My heart failure condition was acting up, and as a result my lungs were filling with fluids. I had a very rough weekend. Today, I am at a favorable turning point. Fluids in the lungs are decreasing, and coughing has improved.

Last Thursday, doctors doubled my daily dosage of Lasix , and evidently that is why I am improving . I have a doctor appointment tomorrow morning . Hopefully , I will be close to recovered by this weekend.

Sorry I have not been able to keep up with your posts, but I hope to catch up eventually.

Happy Model Railroading

That's a post we can all like Garry, Good to hear you're on the up and up.

Boris, thanks for the details! I greatly appreciate you taking the time to fill in the blanks and add things I would never have known otherwise. "I love that stuff!"

Curt, I think you are right. I have a full, finished attic, but I doubt it will be enough. I'm thinking I'll have to have multiple levels to accommodate all the stuff I have. I still may end up building shelves for displays.

Great flatcar and load!

Terry, I'm glad something went right for you. Is that one of those transmissions that was a joint project with at least Chevy and Ford, maybe others collaborating on?

Beady, there you go again! Another good and bad post, but as usual the good far out weighed the bad. Now I keep thinking "poor little bird".

Chet, I can say my wife is short handed at her store with 7 open positions. I see signs everywhere for "help wanted", even with wages beginning at $11/hour for unskilled workers. Some of these signs have been up for years.

My daughter works at Costco and they have 25 openings they have not been able to fill, no prior experience required, for full time union workers and they can make over $40,000 in their first year.

Seems to me we have an extreme shortage of unskilled workers. Why is it the policy of this administration to focus on high paid professional immigrants and keep out unskilled workers? I think we have enough chiefs, we need more Indians, or maybe we need the entire tribe!

Sherrel, you got to love Spiderman!

Garry, that is great news, thanks for sharing! :)

Good morning Everybody!

My time is short this morning. I got a respiratory infection and it threw my sleep schedule off. I was up and down all night and finally fell into a deep sleep at 4am.

I missed most of the ball games I wanted to watch because I fell asleep on the couch! I did wake up in time to see the Nationals bullpen blow the game. Fastball count, 2-1, (should have been 1-2, but that's another story) go ahead runs on 2nd and third, good fastball hitter at the plate with first base open. Yeah, throw a fastball down the middle, great idea, shithead! Cardinals win 4-2.

I have to get breakfast ready for my grandson, drop him off at school, go to the bank, take my Mom to get her hearing aids adjusted and what ever else she needs to do. I'm going to warn her about my infection, but if I know her it will be "damn the torpedoes, we are going in". It's no wonder where I get my bull headed crap from.

Have a great day Everybody!

Good Morning All. 72° and clear here in beautiful North Central Texas. Only reached 94° yesterday, a welcome respite from the heat.
Good Morning Flo. Are those your famous homemade frosted raisin croissants? I'll have a couple along with a handful of bacon.
Getting ready for the vacation trip starting this Friday. We will stop overnight in Baton Rouge LA after lunch in Lafayette LA. Saturday takes us to the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum in Gulfport MS, which I have visited before while some of their layouts were still under construction. Probably eat lunch there as well. Then on to Gulf Shores AL to meet up with my wife's sister and some other friends at a house that they are renting. We'll actually be staying in a condo a couple of miles away due to the lack of an elevator at the house, it's also a couple hundred $$$ cheaper!. Leave to come home Thursday.

Thanks for the likes and comments from all regarding the progress on my current project; Patrick, Sherrel, Chet, Jerome, Curt, Justin, Tom, Z, Louis.

Not a lot of activity in the train shed yesterday. Nothing that I had planned got done. Other stuff took up more time than expected so I just ran some trains and tidied up a bit.
Since I have no progress pictures, I will re-post these shots of last spring's project of a small rural town.

Patrick - If you're going the DC route, then Atlas Selectors 215 can route power from two different power packs to four separate blocks. They can be connected to each other in series to route power to additional blocks.
Chet - Not bad at all for a couple of F units. Did you have to add any weight to the engines, or did they weigh OK out of the box?
Terry - Good news on the pickup. Hope that it lasts longer now.
Garry - Certainly glad to read the good news on your recovery efforts. Continued best wishes and prayers from me for a complete recovery.

I notice that today is National IT Professionals Day, celebrating people like Patrick for holding our "stuff" together, and catching all of the virus's. Hope that he's using a vacation day today.
Everybody have a great day today and every day.
