Johnnie- There will be no purchases at this train show. It is a children's museum model train display that run runs from Nov 23rd through Jan 5th.
The museum staff runs the layouts during the week and the Wrecking Crew has two members on duty for two shifts each Saturday and Sunday.
We do maintenance on the layouts and interact with the visitors. Love those kids and their mothers!
No trains today, I was painting the prototypical porch at our lake lot. It is just like painting a model structure, except with a 4" brush and about 10 times longer time. FYI, in case you care.

Good evening y'all!
Plastic Dude 11-20-19 -1.jpg

The siding isn't quite finished yet, but the Plastic Dude needs his pellets, so the Bee Line delivers.
Cinder ballast 11-20-19.jpg

Freshly applied cinder ballast on Plastic Dudes lead. Meanwhile, I'm working on his pneumatic discharge system. For now, a 2½" hose will do.

Baldwin RT624.jpg

BRS24m Builders Photo. These were gone, before I hired, so I never got to run them. Lady who ran the corner grocery store a block away from my house, had her entire store decorated with framed builders photos, including SAL Centipede, as well as numerous PRR locomotives. Her late husband, like my grandfather, worked at Baldwin. Wonder what ever happened to the photos?

Have a good evening.

Boris

As far as it goes here, life is good! The Mrs has now been the Mrs. for a month now, and we haven't killed each other yet. We are still blending households and emptying her house, so it may be a few more weeks before normal is achieved, but we are making progress.
Please remember, whose sandbox we are playing in.
Normal is a city in the land of FIBs(aka Illinois). They used to build Mitsubishis there.

Good morning gang!
37 degrees out there in central Absurdistan heading for a high of 51. Perfect fall weather!
Mike, what are the FIBs you speak of?

Morning all,

Cloudy and 40* this morning.
I have to rack a server and finish connecting it as the people who were to install it got behind (we delayed them some as we didn't know they were coming due to a bad document they were sending with the schedule got caught in the spam filter). It is also in our Disaster Recovery location which is a little hard to get to at times. Lucky me.....

Good morning everyone. 57 and raining. this will go on through tomorrow, then a nice weekend on tap.

Willie, Chessie, Max, Mike in HubCity, Flip, TexHobo, Patrick, Chad, Wheeler, Chet, Curt, and anyone I may have missed - thanks for the likes and comments on yesterday's progress photo.
Terry - I hear you!!

Got home late yesterday. Was tired, but did get a little done on the bait shop, which has been renamed Aaron's Outpost in honor of my SIL who is a very outdoorsy guy. Mainly, I painted the front porch a lighter brown and the steps a concrete gray, and glued downspouts in place - hardly worth taking a photo of, so no photo to post today.

I notice nights find me more tired and mornings are harder to get up to - - does that mean retirement is getting closer?? Or does it just mean I need more vitamins?!? :D

Coffee's ready and I sure need some right about now! Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning All. 64° and cloudy. Wait! 64° before sunrise on November 21? Yep! Weather Underground agrees with my thermometer as well. Minor drizzle overnight didn't even register in the rain gauge. Wind is supposed to change after sunset and bring thunderstorms and dropping temperatures until Saturday morning. I should be able to get the grocery trek in without incident this morning. Yesterday was a beautiful day and I spent most of the morning preparing the garden for spring and doing other little odd jobs outside.

Sunny side up eggs and sausage patties on this otherwise gloomy morning Francine.

Thanks for all of the likes and comments yesterday regarding the ongoing project; Jerome, Chad, Chet, Patrick, Joe, Phil, Jim, Tom, Hughie, Justin.

Yesterday in the train shed, all I did was run trains. Just couldn't get into the modeling mode. Some days are just like that.

Greg - Good luck with the MMR quest. I know that you have been working on it for some time now.

Everybody have a great day.

Good morning. 15 degrees with clear skies to start off the day. May get up to 32 this afternoon. Cool weather for the next few days.

Joe - I was wondering why you posted the UP train yesterday and you answered my question without asking. Love that Baldwin RT624. Never saw one before and being that only 25 were built and the Pennsy owning 24 of them, I can see why. Thanks for posting. Nice layout photos. Moving right along.

Willie - Guess we were on the same wave length yesterday. Went down to the train room for a while and just ran trains.

Guess I'll go into the photo archives again for a photo. Here is the main yard at the club with only Dewey's ore train behind his Yellowstone. Just a few other cars on the sidings. I picked up the string of tank cars after taking the photo. This yard is seldom this empty.

This little consolidation is what I was running yesterday. Probably my favorite locomotive. Smooth as silk and dead quiet when running.

Good morning ....

Terry, Patrick, Willie, Greg, Curt, and others. ... Thanks for your thoughtful responses to my last post regarding family members who are hospitalized. My wife has been with family in Nashville since Saturday. I'm home taking care of lots of stuff. MIL shows little improvement with blood thinner and with feeding tube. So far, BIL's infection has not touched his new heart valves, and that is good because it means he won't need to have surgery to replace his two new heart valves.

I took a sanity break last night to run some trains which quickly became an insane break instead. I had a short circuit, and stayed up half the night locating it.

WIllie, Greg, Johnny, Chet, Boris, and others...... Your photos of your buildings, model trains, prototype trains, and so on are great.

I still don't expect to have much time if any to post anything for several days. So. have a good Thanksgiving in case I'm absent that long.

Good morning from currently Tranquil New Jersey.

Like the pictures, Chet.

Last night I also crawled under one of the original modules, and repaired a feeder wire that refused to stay connected.

I officially retired yesterday ... finally. So I got a good night's sleep and woke up at 4:30 AM and went downstairs to work on the layout. It's been 5 months since I did any construction on the layout and was eager to get started. When I last worked on it, I was having a intermittent derail problem with the 6-axle locos at a certain speed. So I tore up a 7 foot section to get the "kink" out of it. With the recent cold weather, the basement dropped to 56° and I got a chill. Turned the heater on and came up for a cup of coffee.
I logged on to see what was new. Not much happening, so I decided to post my 2 cents.

Going down to work some more on the layout.

I'll be back!

Everyone have a good day!

Congratulations on your retirement! I like the aerial photo of the tracks very cool!

Morning Flo black coffee straight up!

Well one more day and I am off until Dec 1st!

I will be stopping in Asheville NC then over to Etowah NC and staying there with one of my buddies for Turkey day. I think we are going to check out this depot in Hendersonville, NC on Wednesday.... https://www.avmrc.com/

Should be a good time!

I hope every one has a good & safe Thanksgiving holiday next week with family and friends.

Gotta get back to work and finish up here so I can get outta Dodge tomorrow! :)

Good Morning Everyone......over cast and rain this morning here in Wisconsin.

Max: Enjoy your retirement and using the extra time to work on your layout. Wow 56 degrees in the basement, that's cool.

Chet: As a model railroader who likes ore unit trains...the picture you posted of the ore cars got my juices flowing to get downstairs. Those are extremely long yard tracks, how many through mainline tracks are there in the yard? Nice photos.

The area around the cabin is pickle country with vast fields of pickles. Since the local soil is largely sandy loam and warms ups rapidly, I've seen two plantings of cucumbers in one growing season. Most of the crop harvesting is now done by machinery rather than by hand picking, but where the crops are hand picked, it takes a crew of 24 or more individuals a full week to do one field. Real back breaking work picking the cucumbers (pickles). The last local pickle vat complex was dismantled last summer.

If you ask the workers and if you are lucky, they will bring a 100# bag of pickles to your vehicle for $5.00 and an extra tip. I doubt the farmer ever sees the original $5.00.

The area is also know as the "Christmas Tree Capital of the World" since there are so many tree growers in the area. Most of the soils are not suited for growing other crops unless the fields are irrigated because the fields' soils dry out so rapidly, so the growing of evergreen is a natural choice. These fields are fenced in with eight foot high fences to keep white tail deer from entering and consuming the younger trees or disfiguring the older trees during harsh winters when food is scare and the evergreens are the only choice of food for the deer.

I once though of doing a tree plantation on the layout, but it would take up a lot of space.

Not much about model railroading today.

Greg

Just dropped in for a quick cup of Joe. Started a flag pole project yesterday. When did those 60 lb. bags get so heavy? Need to finish today in addition to providing escort duty to the grocery store. Later
