Re: "What do you do with the van de graaff generators? "

Patrick, I had 3 Van de Graaff Generators at one time, but I removed the 1.16-million-volt unit from the house because the arcs were penetrating the ceiling and attaching to the house wiring, tripping breakers.

I still have a more manageable 600,000-volt unit, pictured.

I've always liked high-voltage devices because of their dramatic discharges, but I got away from Tesla Coils because of their dangerous primary excitation voltages.

JazzDad, that scene is from the film "Young Frankenstein', with Gene Wilder as the Scientist and the reclining Peter Boyle as the re-animated Monster.

The device used to awaken the monster was the ascending-arc "Jacob's Ladder" device.

My recollection was that the lab equipment was from the original Frankenstein ("that's Frunkensteen!") movie.

Hal, I don't doubt that you'd get enough feedback into the house wiring. I saw the big one that MIT had at the Boston Science Museum about 30 years ago.....8 million volts makes a lot of ozone. Glad it was in a Faraday cage.
