HO Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern Greyhound

Hello,

I just joined to share a project I'm working on; detailing and modifying an outdated 4-8-4 Bachmann's Overland "Greyhound" #806. I found it challenging at first when removing all the molded details from the boiler, but when that phase was done, the fun began building custom piping and other details to it. So far I've,

- stripped the original paint/decals by soaking the boiler in rubbing-alcohol over night
- removed all molded details, (took forever!)
- purchased the new Bachmann's Northern 4-8-4 drive train/motor chassis with the decoder
- created custom piping/mechanisms from brass pipes and plastics
- Microscale "UP Greyhound" decals

I'm at the stage of painting the boiler; using Scalecoat II UP Harbor Mist. Waiting a couple days for the paint to settle in on the plastic before I mask it to spray it black where necessary. Currently I'm working on the tender with details and need to add electrical pickup to the wheels for the decoder. Any assistance for the best method on that is most appreciated (I'll get some more pics on the tender)! Sorry, the first two pics didn't turn out too well from my iPhone! Anyway, I like to renumber this engine #809.

Train is coming along. Finished painting the boiler and tender with primary colors, and started to add details.

Finished most of the piping/mechanisms on the left side. Started the right side now with details.

Wow! You did an awesome job with this. Paint is immaculate, clean lines. And all the details. The connecting rods, the piping, all done very nice.

You made this Bachmann look better than any BLI engine. Are you adding engineer and fireman figures too?

Mike im thinking of replicating it , I mean everybody loved the
Bachmann greyhounds fir the 25 mins they ran till they threw
A rod lol

I just ordered an engineer and fireman by Labelle. Before placing them, I have details for the interior cab and started building seats.

Just about done with the details on the boiler. Coated it in high gloss (not certain if I want to apply a coat of flat after the decals, so shiny!).

What? Your adding valves and guages in there? I've never seen that, but man that is cool That is what you call super detailing.
