Harp Switch Stands

I've seen Harp Switch Stands with the Actuator (Throw bar?) rod in the middle. Generally, the Actuator is on one side or the other, the target would be to the right or left. Would the middle position be set for derail? I see this on old movies of the Rio Grande Southern.

Never noticed that detail before!
Could be to make it easier to clean the snow from the points in the winter?
Maybe "Iron Horse" knows?

Sounds logical! Maybe by keeping the switch points centered the points could not freeze to the stock rails?!?

I just googled Harp Switch Stand and the small amount of information provided, stated that Harp Switch Stands where mostly used on Stub Switches and by the Narrow Gauge lines. It said two types were provided, a two position and three position. The two position was for two way switches and the three position was for three way switches. I don't know if all the three position stands I've seen on switches in the movies I've seen, are three ways.

That would make even more sense; the center position on a three-way stub would be lined straight threw.
I think you just answered your question!

Yes, Google is my friend, should have gone there to start with!
