Usually the resistors need to be install by the hobbyist since I haven't seen any flashing units or detection units that have built in resistors.
I installed the detection circuit from Circuitron and the unit required four photo detectors installed between the RR ties, two on each side of the crossing. The instructions seemed to be complex, but are rather simple.
Important question...are these units from Hobbytronics suitable for DC operation? Many early detection units were designed for DC like the detection unit I installed and I had to make some changes to use it for DCC operation since the units use track power in the detection process. This is a question that Hobbtronics can answer and perhaps his instructions cover this subject.
