Kinda new at model building...tried my hand with this mine and attempted to weather it.

Tom, the building looks good. Of the operating mines I've been to, the colors are more black, gray, and coal dust covered silver, as I assume yours will be in operation. But, for your first weathering, it's probably better than I would have done. :) Overall it looks good!

Hi Tom, the buildings are impressive...wonder if you have every tried some black powder that they sell? I use it here and there and it is easy to get the soot effect.

Looks good Tom!
Like Jim mentioned some black coal dust accumulation would set it off.

New Member....the suggestion by Dave and Rico of using black powders is a great idea. Coal mines were dirty and covered with coal dust. Try the black power and when happy a light over spray of grimy black spray paint followed by a light coating of Dullcote to seal the powder.

You'll find that weathering will become fun and with powders you an always wipe off any excess.
