i just got these from a flea market but haven't been able to find any info on them. can anyone help? i know that the tanker is a lionel but i don't know what year. the crane is a marx but again i don't know the year. i'm new to model trains so don't know where to find information on older stuff. thanks in advance.

Check the built date on the Lionel tank car. Lionel generally put a built date on "modern" freight cars that coincide with the date they were released. That should date it with in a few years.
The Marx crane is a new one on me. I've never seen this model before. Marx was one of the last toy train model to switch from cast metal to plastic. This model looks like like plastic to me, which would place it, at the earliest, in about 1960. Marx stopped producing toy trains in 1968, so that's youngest it could be.
