Atlas yellow box engines

So a local guy has two Atlas kato yellow box engines Alco C425 are they worth $100 for the pair they look to be in very good shape

If they still run like they did when they were new, they’re probably worth close to that. Nothing runs like a Kato, though the state of the art as far as details has long passed them by.

I don't know much about HO, but with cast on grab irons instead of wire, I would try $90.

I have maybe 2 doz other yellow box kato engines just no C425 and like you say nothing runs like a Kato
I've got a few things from this guy before so prob get them for $80

At least they already have Kadee couplers on them. That conversion was (is?) always a challenge with the Atlas/Roco line.

Like Terry said, if they run good. But I would offer him $75 - see if he bites.

The Kato drives are worth fifty bucks each.

As long as they are kato unit and not roco units you should have a good running loco. I have two of the older roco atlas and they both sound like a meat grinder running. And I have two older kato units and they both run just as smooth as any of the new loco's today. like someone said just not up to date on details like the new loco are.
