Atlas O GP35 Has Hiccups...

Right after completing my new O Scale 2 Rail 127-foot layout, my Santa Fe GP35 has developed a "stop & go" illness, that results in a slight 1/8" forward movement when I give it throttle, then shuts off.

At other times it will complete a dozen laps round the layout (which includes a 3% grade) with no hesitations while pulling the freight consist.

This sounds like something intermittent in the electronics.

Any clues?

Thanks,

What electronics does it have? Could be something as simple as dirty electrical contacts on the wheels/axles.

I cleaned all 8 wheels where they contact the rails, and also the inside surfaces of the wheels where the springy brass strips make electrical contact.

It has QSI sound.

Also could have developed a fault in the motor's armature. A broken connection between an armature pole and the commutator.
