    MR Magazines

Bill, Where are you located. That makes a big difference in getting to you. I'm a member of the Madison County Historical Society in Anderson IN and we have a rather large set of layouts in the basement. We give away magazines.

    Do you model the transition?

I model a time just after the transition. I remember that quite well, so I have an abandoned rail line in existence and use old e units and f units in passenger and freight service as well as other newer units. Works for me.

    The Pennsey

The PRR and the NYC merged in 1968. And, yes, it can still be THAT popular for older equipment. Whereas the NYC just is not that popular. :-(

    National Model Railroad Month

National Model Railroad Month When I was growing up in the 1950s, it seemed as if the railroads were a part of daily life in the U.S. Trains were everywhere. In those days it was hard not to become interested in modeling them as a hobby. Things are different today. In large parts of the...

Beginner Seeking Guidance on New Layout

Well the switch (turn out) control is the two rows of switches on the right under the drawing of the layout in the upper photo. And the bank of switches to the left in the upper photo control with piece of track gets the power. The red lines mean nothing to me. Now your problem comes in the hook...

Membership in the NMRA verses the Number of Model Railroaders in the U.S.

Generally about $5. It seems to me that nearly everyone here has never actually been a member. Oh, yes, you may have joined for a year or two, but you probably were expecting to receive some big thing that didn't happen. Oh, well. I've been a member since 1980 and have only attended two...

    Favorite model railroading ERA -ERA's 1800's- ?

1969-1971. This allows me to make use of older NYC equipment, run in my own named equipment and operate a passenger special and grain business in a town 80 miles south of my main city. All of this has a basis in history.

The decline in the number of model railroaders?

Yes, the hobby has taken a hit over the last few years. Yes, we have manufacturers putting out some tremendous items at a very high cost. And that is all well and good, but our numbers are still falling. I'm 78 and have been working hard over the last 11 years trying to interest people in MRing...
