DAVID - my brother in law spent 3 years commuting from L.A. to Seattle building Rod Stewart's
Home.
It was something to behold! If I remember correctly it was in the neighborhood of 30,000 sq ft. He has been the "super" on several multi thousand square feet houses in the LA area.

Good Morning All!
43F @ 71% with partly. Made 72F yesterday, only 69F later today. Next week looks to be colder.

Concerts - hmmm lets see if the brain cells all swim upstream. Spokane 1969/8 Merlie Rush opened for Iron Butterfly @ the Gonzaga Arts center. Both good. A 'rock' band in CDA of which I don't remember the name. Claim to fame was the voice box to guitar solo's ( way before Frampton ) and that was fun. Doors in Anaheim 1971; Morrison did not fall of the stage at this one. Then 1972 Hawaii @ Diamond Head. Led Zep opened for Santana. That was another good one ... you did not even to light up as everyone else was. After that I did not go to them for some reason or t'other. Well, there were a few Cowboy types, but nothing that really brings back memories. We did see Rain in Libby about 6 years ago. Yes, Libby - small venue which sat about 350 people. There were folks from 15 to 80 and it was really good for all. Most everybody was singing either Yellow Sub, Hay Jude or Came in through the Bathroom window when leaving.

Last fall I found out that Journey was to be in Spokane and thought Maria would like that. $450 a seat in the nose-bleed section quelled that pretty fast.

Now days, I just do my own concerts - way too many CD's and LP's.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 66°; humidity at 89% due to the eastern winds coming from Louisiana. While these clouds will keep the temperature down today, these conditions sometimes lead to mild thunderstorms after dusk, that east wind primarily brings moisture.

Trip to Dallas yesterday was uneventful, we stopped at Red Lobster on the way home for all you can eat shrimp. They lose money when we show up, even though they have shrunk the portions...we just get more!

Today is going to be a heavy gardening day since I am so far behind with last Monday's downpour. Still hasn't completely dried out, but I can't wait any longer.

As I posted yesterday, no train shed time. I doubt that I get much in today either.

Swal - ELO were a favorite of mine even before they became big. They only came to my area once in 1978 on their New World tour. That was the tour with the big spaceship on stage. There was some unknown act opening but second bill was Sammy Hagar who I had seen before when he was with Montrose opening for the Rolling Stones at the Cotton Bowl in 1975. Trapeze and The Eagles were also on that Cotton Bowl show. It was billed as a 4th of July show even though it was actually on July 6. We were outraged that the tickets were $10.25@, the first show in the area that broke the $10 barrier
Sherrel - Both you and Kate heal up real soon.

Concerts - I have seen so many (at least 350) between 1968 and 1992 that I don't remember some of them unless someone brings up an artist's name. Some though are really still distinct to me. That Allman Brothers one that I posted a few days ago is one, as well as several of the Rolling Stones ones. Some were just lucky coincidences, I saw the Quicksilver Messenger Service play a 4 hour show in a small 3000 seat auditorium, on just two hours notice when me and a buddy just drove to the box office and got a pair of last minute tickets. I saw some real stinkers as well, The Doors were too f****d up (well just Jim Morrison), and I walked out. Jo Jo Gunne were too drunk and had to leave the stage early at one concert, but I stuck around because Emerson, Lake & Palmer were the headliners and it turned out to be a great show. We had to wait a while for them because they weren't there yet when Jo Jo Gunne were ushered off the stage. Yes, the promoters actually escorted them off. Heart, Jeff Beck, Dire Straits, Boz Scaggs, CTA, Mountain, and Spirit were a few other really high points. Being in the DFW area, I saw a lot of local opening acts over the years that went on to bigger things, although not all superstar status; artists like Shawn Philips, Bloodrock, Nitzinger, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Buddy Guy. Two other local bands that used to play free concerts at anti-war rallies in Lee Park there, were Steve Miller Band and ZZ Top.

Everyone have a great day.

Good Morning folks ... Haven't looked at the weather -- could not sleep with too much on my feeble mind!
Besides - it still smarts rom the fall.
CURT, Boris, KARL and others -- Thanks so much for the well wishes and comments.
I have NO recollection of the fall or ambulance ride to the ER. The first I remember was being "carted" into the ER. Don't remember anything in between including the falling?

I hope that all those in need - obtain the health care they need!
Captain Weems: It's my belief that the fall was directly related to your treatment, and not because you are a klutz. You must have really rattled the brain if you don't remember anything. Seriously, my prayers are that you recover. Don't quit. But I think they pushed the envelope in scheduling your treatments so closely together. All that heavy duty stuff affects your mobility and balance. Be careful, the person scheduling your treatments is filling openings, he or she is not undergoing the treatments.

Did get to actually meet him during the build?

How neat would it be to meet him and talk trains!

When #4 son was interested in the game he and I would go hit a bucket of balls or 2 at our local driving range I would do well. but got bored of it.
They say when hitting balls at a driving range. your mind will compensate for your bad habits and your shots will get better because of this.
On the course it's a different story hitting a shot every 5 minutes. All your bad habits show up. Your mind can no longer compensate for the shot you hit 5 minutes ago.

What do Mr. M. Hersey, Mr. J.P. Morgan and Mr. W. Finch have in common?

Good morning, all! A nice day in the making. Temp started at 68 and going to the 80's but humidity is low. Our first 90 degree day could be Wednesday. Not a lot to report. I ran a few trains around the layout just to sort of clean the track. Does anyone else have strange occurrences on their layout. I have 2 BLI SD40-2 mu'd, pulling a 20 car consist. A few days ago the second loco would stall in 2 places. Cleaned the track, still that loco and only that loco stalled there. Yesterday's train running no stalling.

112 years ago on this date the Titanic sank on her maiden voyage. The 3 men mentioned above had booked passage on the maiden voyage but for various reasons missed the sailing.

Well, howdy there internet peoples, and those who putt the putt!

After years of photographing HS and College sporting events for a variety of papers (6 papers, IIRC), I can see some of my hearing issues coming from gymnasiums. If you're thinking they can't be THAT loud... remember, this is Indiana, where the movie "Hoosiers" was set. The final game of that movie was filmed in Hinkle Fieldhouse, at Butler Univ, where I was an adjunct for 7 years.

Yes, I wish I'd kept earplugs at HS games. Pep bands, screaming fans... It got LOUD

Anyway, made it to Costco... they determined my hearing aids are too old to have the white noise app on them, so I have a hearing test scheduled in 8 days, not 8 weeks. I may pick up an extra white noise speaker that I can carry around with me. Since I'm hitting both the patio, as well as the writing desk and hobby desk throughout the day.

I put up the canopy yesterday. Then I cleaned and tightened all the bolts on the Kamado. If you've got a kamado, don't forget to get the bolts tightened. I had to make a quarter to half-a-turn on most of of them.

That book on my iPad is a recent look at Tinnitus. I'm about three chapters in and finding it interesting. He's both an audiologist, and earned a PhD in Neural Physiology??? if memory serves. Long time researcher on the subject, and a sufferer of it. I need to get a few more chapters read today.

For those wondering about my trip to see my aunt's birthday party, yes there was cake. Two of them for one person. But when you hit 75, I guess two is about the right amount of cake.

My uncle is a former wedding DJ, and still has gear. So he tried to run the event as more of a wedding reception style party. He even sang a few songs. Unfortunately, it was a very crowded VFW hall. And not a big one. It was wall to wall tables and chairs.

We stopped for ice cream on the way home... you know, since we had cake for an afternoon snack. I got a Glacier with Extra Cookie dough at Ritters.

Morning all,

64° and cloudy, going for a high of 81° later. Supposed to have some storms late this evening and into the overnight. We need the rain. We had a wetter than normal January, and not much has fallen since. Smaller ponds that filled in January are starting to get dry again.

2 concerts I've been to are The Charlie Daniels Band and Manheim Steamroller. There have been a couple of smaller shows that one radio station group put together for listeners and I had been to a couple of when the wife and I were dating and first married. Nothing in the past 30 years or so. The venues aren't in my opinion set up for tall guys with bad knees.

kgstakes: Did I read you were moving to Kansas or out of the state? I'm in the Wichita metro area myself.
Yes moving to Kansas, Cheney not far from Wichita. Found a place with a shop and about an acre.

Morning folks

A little much needed rain with maybe more in store. I ended up spending a good part of yesterday un-burying the 1939 Oliver row crop 80 from its decades old rip van winkle slumber in the bay beside the shop. I need to see if a couple of tires will still hold air today but given I didn't have my *##!* glasses I couldn't see where the oil level was in the IR compressor and didn't want to fire it up out of its two year rest. My brother is supposed to pick that tractor up on the 7th and it will be headed to Iowa.

Another from the "73" collection.

Favorite concert... I've been thinking about this, I can't decide.

Black Sabbath's reunion with Ozzy at Ozz Fest. Not only was the show fantastic, but the weather provided a fitting backdrop for a Sabbath show! It went from 90+ to lightning and hail as they began playing. Luckily for us we were in the pavilion, not so lucky for people with lawn seats. To the chagrin of the security, Ozzy called for everyone to pack into the pavilion. It was a mad house, too cool!

As I mentioned, The Blizzard of Ozz was fantastic.

Black Sabbath with Ian Gillian. I could never forget Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler playing "Smoke on the Water"

Every Black Sabbath show was great, regardless of who was singing. I saw all or most of the singers at least once. Ronnie James Dio talked too much, but the man could sing!

Every Ozz Fest show I saw had more than one superior performance. Seeing Disturbed on the small third stage was outstanding! They were the only band I ever saw who laid out rules for the mosh pit and enforced them!

Saxon, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, all with the original lineups were fantastic!

The Who was not only a great show they played for over two hours.

I could go on and on, but you get the picture. I saw hundreds of great shows!

I may have forgotten the best show I ever saw. I had too much "fun" in those days. "Smoking and tramping is all that you do, oh yeah!" Anybody know what song that line is from?

I was telling my friend Willy years ago "I wish I had seen Metalica" He said "you not only saw them you sat and had drinks with them when they played the Seagull Inn!" I don't remember, was it was quarter beer night?
After seeing what you've saw, i wouldn't remember half of it🤣. All i would remember is that it was awesome🍻

Saturday it was mid 70s. Yesterday mid 60s. Today upper 30s and raining. Kind of sucks. Rest of the week is supposed to be relatively nice.

On the house the solar panels started operation a week and a half ago. First couple days were overcast and only had limited production but since then, until today, has been bright and sunny. Racking up credits.

Noticed some issues with the garage doors on Saturday. The main door is binding on the L-bracket that attaches it to the track. The two smaller ones think there is an obstruction when it gets down to about 8-10" off the ground on closing. At least that is what I think is happening. Neither of them will close -- they get to the last 8-10" and open again. They appear to maybe bind a little in the same place but loosen up again as they go through the cycle so I don't know.

Most of the painting is done (and has been done). Some bathrooms and closets still plus touch ups and some of the ceiling/wall lines need to be done. Been doing final electrical installs of switches, lights, etc.

Nephew-in-law is due in 1/2 hour and we're going to tile the "Japanese Bath" room floor this week, the kitchen backsplash, etc. And put in some hanging pendants (15' long cord) and cabinets and a bunch of stuff. I want to get to the point we're doing the flooring and the final finish plumbing work.

I knew about J.P. Morgan canceling the voyage, but i didn't know about these two. Either way the catastrophe seems bogus after reading some about it; the fact that the "Olympic" had major issues prior to that date.

Golden Gate Bridge and major highways in New York blocked by pro-Palestinian protesters! On the Bridge, people trapped in their cars. Can't get to work, or doctor's appointments. Some of these protesters have CA'd their hands to the cars or used "sleeping dragon" pipes to prevent their being removed from the cars. CHP apparently withdrawn from the bridge! One U.S. Senator on Fox, from a Southern state says if that happened down there, the civilian populus would have thrown those protestors off the bridge! One thing to protest, but NOT so as to disrupt other's lives.
