The more I look at old photos the more I see these tank locos were very widespread in use back in the day. It appears as though many of them were scrapped.

This one was used in Northern Minnesota circa 1920's. Ran back and forth from woods landing to mill, it was a 32 mile trip. Photo from the Train Museum in Duluth, MN

Re-awakens my idea of building a steam powered electric generator to use when the grid goes out. We have lots of seasoned firewood left over from the mild winter. I am sure it would not be that hard. Maybe there is already a personal model available somewhere.

They were available in On30, but that gauge died, and Ebay is flooded with them in the $100-$400 range. Heck, there's been one sitting on consignment, at my LHS, for $75.

I purchased a Rivarosi tank engine on ebay for $15. It runs super smooth and is one of my main locomotives.

It is nice!
