A great friend sent this to me.

Swing? I guess so, but this rocks!

Bruette, what did you send? Where did your post go? What the heck is going on? I'm confused!?!

Good morning y'all. 30° and clear. Today, I'm going to cut the lawn, and see how well I do. Still on antibiotics.

Sherrel: The Paid political announcements, the ads for Medicare supplement insurance, and final affairs insurance totally ruin the experience of watching re-runs of old TV shows. They are even intruding on sports broadcasts. No different than surfing the net. The politics will end in 15 days, the insurance ads will linger into December. Then it will be the buy a car for everyone on your gift list ads through the new year. Ain't Capitalism wonderful?

Today, it is only 32 degrees; but, clear and the stars are out in full, Beautiful morning! This past week we have actually seen the sun quite a bit! September was cloudy, rainy and cold for the most part, so it's been good to see the sun! Chet, the warm weather you are seeing we will get tomorrow; or, Wednesday. However it won't be quite so warm here, only high 40s.

Good Morning All. 46° and partly cloudy. Almost had to start a fire this morning, but wife said that 71° in the house was OK for her. I brought in wood prior to going on vacation, so I would have something dry to start the first fire of the season. Even though this wood burning heater has performed flawlessly for 37 years, it may be time to finally get something more modern! Other than cleaning the ashes out and sweeping the chimney every so often, it's maintenance-free. Along the same line, we finally ran out of propane this morning. We've been waiting several months for this to happen because the gauge on the 64 year old tank broke last winter. The propane supplier got a new one to replace it, but the tank has to be empty to install it; it was either run out or release it into the air. They are concerned with breaking the screws when removing them, I have been periodically applying 3 in 1 penetrating oil to them for a few months.
Back to the bathroom remodel today after taking two weeks off.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I mostly ran trains. I also reviewed the chain-link fence project to see where I had left off. Should restart it this afternoon depending on the propane man. It's been good to run trains after taking a week off for vacation.

Sherrel - Take it easy and recover from that back sprain soon. Chet beat me to it, but I was also going to suggest scattering those seeds around your HOA officials yards. Easy solution to the TV ads, turn it off!
Chet - Lots of cool photos from the club.
Curt - Structure is coming along nicely.
Louis - Probably the same friend sent me that same video. They do a very impressive job on that tune. Note that the original was written and performed by Louis Prima, but the most famous version is by Benny Goodman with Gene Krupa on drums. Goodman's 1937 recording was an unheard of 8:43 in length and took up two sides of a 12" 78rpm record. If you like this, you would like a lot of other "swing" music from that era.
Mark - Great to see you back in the Coffee Shop.

Everybody have a great day and a wonderful week.

Louis - Regarding your health, is it possible that some medications are interfering or reacting negatively with others? I used to know a fellow that took 13 prescriptions a day and claimed that he felt lousy all of the time. On a whim one week, he quit taking all of them. He claimed that he hadn't felt so good in years. About three or four weeks later, he visited his doctor who freaked out about what he did. Part of the doctor's issue (he didn't admit to) was most of the drugs were tier 4 or 5 ones that he got a substantial kickback from. However, he did look at all of them and determind that there were some that didn't perform well together and put together a whole new plan. The fellow started taking all of them and eventually felt bad again, although not as badly as before. He was also a bit of a hypochondriac so part of this was his own fault. This is not meant to infer that you are a hypochondriac, just check to see if medications are all compatible.

I better quit practicing medicine today! It's time to get the rest of our stuff out of the car.
Everybody have a great day and an excellent weekend.

Hey Willie!

I've been taking the same medications (12 pills a day) for years, long before I worked with Amazon. I would not think they are the problem, but I will bring it up to my doctors. Wait, I'm wrong, I did start taking a calcium blocker about 2 years ago. They were considering taking me off of it because my blood pressure has significantly improved. Every bad thing brings some thing good!

I refuse to take any medication that is not already available as a generic, let somebody else be the Guinee pig. I don't know about tiers, but my monthly bill for all medications is $5.54. (I only pay 20% the insurance pays the other $27.70)

For the record I don't see you as practicing medicine. Sharing experiences is always a good thing, thank you.

To be perfectly honest, I think I've been deceiving myself. Taking a day off between working is not doing yard work and other strenuous chores. I am my own worst enemy. I have refused to go backwards after returning to work, but my body has had other plans.

Doctors tell me it takes me much longer to dissipate the Creatinine my muscle mass generates. My normal Creatinine runs between 1000-1100 and has been stable for over 10 years. A normal person would have under 30. It sounds bad but the kidney specialists tell me that is ok for me due to the amount of muscle mass I have and my highly elevated metabolism. If I don't eat much for a day I can lose 5-10lbs. I lost 2.4lbs last night while sleeping.

According to the doctors and some sophisticated machine they hooked me up to for over an hour, I burn approximately 210 calories per hour at rest. The result was so high that they ran the test 3 times on 3 separate days, of course all on my dime, with the same result. They tell me it is because of my hard work and play for so many years. My heart rate ranges between 45-60 normally a tick or 2 over 50. My heart is one of the things I have no problems with. Despite doing next to nothing for over 10 years!

Fortunately my kidneys have not gotten worse and I am only at stage 2. My pancreatitis remains in remission. My weight has stabilized some what recently. My A1C is down to 7.1 from 9.0 (too many cookies) and I am doing better.

I am a freak of nature, but none the less thankful for all my blessings and happily carry my minor burdens. I thank God for everything.

It's high time accept my condition and learn to minimize my problems, regardless of how much I want to do otherwise. I'm working on it and I will do it, I refuse to lose! My primary doctor helped, he said "when you think of doing something, think of your grandsons first'

Thanks again Willie :) it's comforting to me to know there are people who care. For most of my life I thought I was all alone with my back to the wall. Just another example of what a fool I have been.

JOE -- That is the best description of it all! You have it deciphered down to a science! Only thing is - The talk shows will immediately switch to the 2020 election. It never ends anymore?

Good Morning Flo … I would like a bear claw with my coffee this morning. Feeling better in the sore back department with the liberal use of Advil a couple times yesterday - I managed to finish the yard cleanup and then went out to the MIL's to vacuum out the RV. Spousal Unit will continue on MIL duty until Wednesday morning, so I have until then before "sprucing" up the house for her return.

Louis/Willie: I wish that I had just a little of you medical knowledge. Outside of understanding electricity, it has always been my weakest subject. If the body could be repaired with a hammer, saw, or wrench - I would be in tall cotton!

Willie: I cannot tear myself away from the TV -- I would miss "Gunsmoke", "Wagon Train", "Bonanza", and many others! LOL
However, "Star Trek Voyager" is still my favorite. I am a TV "junkie".

Howdy ...

We returned from Michigan. .... Quick trip back. 630 miles in less than 11 hours. My Main Squeeze actually did not want to stop to shop anywhere.. That's because she already did that in Michigan. ...

TV ? .... I don't like wasting time with it. ... Too many ads. Much of the content stinks.

I'll catch up on your posts later.....

Cheers.

Good morning everyone. 40 and sunny out there - nice fall weather around here these days.

Running a little late today. Had to run back to the book sale this morning. Thanks for the comments about real books (paper books) - I love them and have a decent library at the office and at home. My wife and I both enjoy working with the Friends of the Library book fairs. When these book sales are over a company comes in and pays so much per pound for all the remaining books, shreds them, and turns them into cat litter. But before they do that, the Friends of the Library club allows non-profit organizations to come in and grab all the books they want for free. I volunteer with a non-profit organization many of you have probably heard of, Teen Challenge (sometimes called Adult/Teen Challenge or Life Challenge) - it is a one-year program to help young people get off drugs and/or alcohol. One of the Teen Challenge centers I work with is trying to build up their library, so I got about 50 books for free this morning. We'll take them with us to a fund-raising banquet this Saturday and present them to the TC center.

I've been reading the conversation about TV and big band music. I don't watch much TV myself - news, weather, occasional sports game (I'll watch some college football, but I've pretty much given up on professional sports) - I do watch old westerns like several of you have mentioned.

And as far as big band "swing" music from the 30's and 40's - I love it. Many years ago I was a drummer in a big-band style group called the Stardusters (guess where that name came from) - we played gigs around Long Island. To this day I love the big band sound and still listen to Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, the Dorsey brothers, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Woody Herman, etc. etc. (in addition to 80's-90's "hair band" glam rock).

More coffee's on the way. Gotta go. Have a good day everyone.

Been a few days since I've posted. Bummer of a weekend for me. Storm came through on Saturday and knocked out the power. Was without power til late yesterday. Ruined the plans to work on the layout. Good thing it's not been as hot lately. I did however get the much needed handrails for my GM50 project. Hopefully those will show up this week. I had to replace my lost 101st Airborne deployment patch this past week as well. It's been bothering me that my old Army uniforms are missing it. No clue what happened to my original but I now have a replacement. That's it from me for the moment. I'll check in later. At least try to anyways.

It seems like just mentioning the elections can get a political discussion going.

So, the only thing safe about politics is to remind everybody to go vote November 6th for the candidate of your choice.
And don't tell us who that is.

Terry - As tempting as it is, I will follow the rules and NOT get into political conversations on this forum. o_O

Good morning. 34 degrees to start off the day with the high expected to be in the mid 60's again. had an early start to the day, having to follow th ewife to drop her car off at the alignment shop and then taking her to work. I was changing oil in all of the vehicles and noticed that the tires should be rotated on ther car and an allignment check should be done. Went and had breakfast with some friends while I was in the area. Will have to pick her up later to pick up her car.

Louis - Great video. I am a fan of big band music. No mixers, no electronics, just talent. Great sounds. I have a few CD's of big band music and have it tuned in on the sat radio.

Garry - Thanks for the input this isn't a political forum.

Justin - Losing power can be a pain. We sure take a lot for granted.

Curt -
The building is coming along nicely.

Hope to get some time in the train room later.

Here is a rail photo for today. Took this shot in 1969 when we visited Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 1969. It is a scan from a slide.
