PoleCrafters

I scratch build distribution, sub-transmission and transmission poles ( aka: “telephone”, “power”, “electric” and/or “utility” poles ) designs for any kind of United States themed HO & 1:87 scale settings. I have been crafting these for over twenty years; I’ve been selling these since 2009.

For distribution poles I use 1.12 (8ft.) and 1.36 (10ft) inch wide cross arms which are then glued onto 5 & ½ (40.2ft) inch dowels. For distribution poles, 3/16th inch diameter dowels are used. Sometimes, I may use 1/4th diameter dowels for some transmission designs. By comparison, “Cornerstone Series” power poles are 4 & ¾ ( 35 scaled feet ) inches tall and 1/8 diameter; cross arm width is a maximum 1.28 inches wide ( 9.36 scaled feet ).

I use actual tree branches and twigs as poles whenever I craft 1940, 50 and 60’s era designs. This is done because they’re perfect components to reflect aging. Many old power poles are bent; many even have “knots“.

My designs (distribution and transmission) can be used in conjunction with Walthers Cornerstone Series poles. However, you’ll need to make so slight adjustments to these poles to make them compatible. I don’t place my designs on “platforms”; therefore, these poles are not self supporting. For the sake of simplicity, I’ve coined (or marketed) my distribution poles by designating them as various voltages. For example:

* “12KV”: The insulators on these types of poles are considerably smaller than other types that I craft.
* “21.3KV”: These types of poles/cross arms feature my own custom crafted “twist top” insulators”.
* “29.4KV”: I use jewelry beads as “fog bowl” insulators or I will custom craft “Hendrix” insulators.
* “34.5KV”: For these types, I use my own custom crafted “line post” insulators.

So far, I have sold 717 items (totaling 3439 individually crafted power poles; 385 positive comments) to customers in 36 states ( AK,AL, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA & WI ) and one Canadian Province (Ontario). My designs have even found their way to international customers in:
* Austria
* Australia
* Brazil
* Germany
* Greece
* Italy
* United Kingdom
