View Full Version : Layout simulator?
Anyone know of a program that allows one to create a layout, scenic it, add buildings and then run it? I'd personally prefer if it ran in Linux, but a Windows version could be run in a virtual machine on my system.

I've been trying RAILY for about a week now..
can do layout, most brands of track and turnouts..
can do track ramping /elevation..
can run a choice of six loco's , all european, no rolling stock,,
space bar flips turnout in simulation..
can view in 'flat' 3d, or cab view..
only supports metric size planning, not horrible, but takes some getting used to
can also do ground cover colors, trees / scenery /some terrain..limited building selection..
has utility to generate more scenery / etc.. can't figure that one out yet..:)
not free but pretty cheap
so far been doing more 'play' with some of the sample layouts from their site..
using 'tie display' and 'track ballasting display' slows system down some, not very realistic, but better than nothing..
..enjoy..

See if this is what you had in mind. I use 3d Planit for my layout design, but not much on the scenery part. It does have this capability and you can run trains in 3D.
