Good morning Bill ! It's a bit cool this morning and the rain has finally stopped . real soaker overnight ahead of a cold front . It's 54 now with a high of 57 so it's not going to get much higher. I took my dog out this morning and you could tell a skunk was around . Sure glad he didn't get into him . That's about the height of my day so far. Hope you all have a nice day !!!!!Chris best wishes to your wife ,hope she feels better soon .

Good morning folks

It was 64 F when I head off this morning. High today will be 79 F. We may get some thunderstorms this evening.

We had our library visit last night with the Cub Scout pack. We had 22 out of 23 scouts make it. Afterwards came home and watched the Phillies win the National League Pennant.

Today my daughter has another away volleyball game. Not much else on the schedule. I do have a few yard jobs to do but it will depend on the weather. Who knows maybe I will get some modeling done.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 72 and very wet here as I can hear a slow rain outside. The high is expected to hit a paltry 75 today and there's a chance of thunderstorms.

Yesterday I went out and bought several strings of mini Christmas lights. I made sure that these are 20 light strings. I'll be cutting them up into sets of 2 bulbs each for use in my structures. I already have 2 pairs made up with 1 pair already in a structure. Some will be easier than others while a few will be a real pain in the butt. For some reason I find myself looking forward to those few.

Good morning all!
The dew was definitely on the pumpkin in Central Alabama this morning. The temp was in the upper 50's and a high in the upper 70's is expected.
Great weather to drive to work in, and I can take the teetops out of the Vette on the way home this afternoon.
Gas has dropped over 30 cents a gallon in my area this week, but is still $3.19 to $3.24 this morning. several stations in Birmingham are below $2.90 a gallon for regular. Hope it drops some more today, as I HAVE to stop for gas on the way home. My gas mileage is poor :o, unless I am very conservative driving.
BUT, the sound of a V-8 with dual exhaust...., almost as good as the sound of a steam whistle echoing off mountains!!
Didn't mean to go all mushy and teary-eyed. See some of you on Saturday at the ARG meet.

Good Morning Everyone,
Hope your day has started out good, I see that Paul and Ray are getting more rain, geesh, I would think they're about ready to start floating away? Things sure must be green in your area, we sure could use some of what your getting out here in Central Calif. In case anyone wonders why I type out the long abreviation for the state it because I like to just use Ca but to my understanding that's meant for Canada.

It was 48*F this morning here in Coarsegold, Calif.

I did scrub the wood ties, to distress them, for the Anglin Oil Works siding and the main line. I also laid some dual guage trackage in front of the the Serpha Copper & Iron works and want to take some pictures of a little engine and a car or two on that trackage before I pull up the spikes and rail so I can scrub those ties. The only thing I now have to be careful of is the retaining I, I mean the little folks built. In this case I did things a little backwards but it will all work out,

Hand laying is a lot more tedious the way I do it but the results are worth it, IMHO.

I'm glad to see a number of folks are enjoying my thread about RR Slang, sure is a lot more of it than I ever realized.

Also I've been getting some activity on my MRR supplies so I'm pleased about that and hope more develope an interest and give me a chance to save them some money on their
various RR needs!

The operation thread has been interesting too so I hope more will post there too.

Have a good day and enjoy operating your Railroads and I hope the revenue is profitable for you? At least it's FUN, Right !

Prevent Freight damage when coupling, a light hand on the throttle & Johnson Bar does it! For those in Steam anyway.

What's your areas Avg. wage for fast food/Retail? Here starting wages is between $7-$10 hr. for a fastfood or retail store job. I think wal-mart Starts down here at $8hr x 32-40hr's a week! In your country it would cost me over $500 a month to go to work:eek::eek::eek:

Morning all its a brisk 6c (43f) in ye olde London towne with a high of only 13c (55f)
Just waiting around for the concrete to be delivered. B&Q (like Home Depot right down to the orange decor) screwed up the inventory so its coming in 2 shipments. Half today, half monday. D'oh. Thats going to put me back another week.

Chris, so glad your wife is home and feeling better. All transport in the UK is very expensive. Even cycling costs more as bikes are pricier. I'm paying around $200/month just in rail and bus fares. I only live 12 miles from the office. To drive with parking and C charge costs that would be about $750/month and take 3 times as long.

Steve, great video. One day I will have to get up to the GCR and have a look. As for petrol prices, whoa. Its 99p down here which equates to $6.55 for a US gallon. Don't forget the Amercian gallon is a lot smaller than the imperial gallon (128 ounces v 160 ounces) and the exchange rate is crap at the moment. Still bloody expensive though. Diesel is over £1.09 which works out to $7.15 US/gal. Which means its still costing me over $105 to fill my Landrover with Diesel. (conversions for the 2 people out there that are interested. 1 US gallon = 3.78 litres. £1 = $1.734 as of this morning)

Why can't you Americans catch up with the other 95% of the global population and go metric? :D:D:D Then we wouldn't have to do these silly conversions all the time.

Hi ya'll!:D

Been putzing around on the layout some and now have the main from the largest staging yards at Pratt Junction laid up thru Fulton, to the edge of Burnsville. This took only two days, with the construction of two mainline turnouts and two turnouts for Fulton. (To see what I'm talking about, click on my home page link in my sig and go to the layout plan in the photo section:).) Hope to get more done this weekend after the ARG meet at Irondale. (For anyone coming to the meet, the forecast is for clear sunny skies with highs around 70. From personal experience, bring a light jacket or sweater. That wind there can make a 70 degree day feel like 40).

Went to the Doc yesterday and had the staples removed from my surgery. The Doc also drained 110cc's of fluid from around the incision. He says this is common to have this fluid build up around the mesh. He even says he may have to drain it several more times before my body "adjusts" to the mesh.:( Hope that he's right with this. Anytime any fluid builds up in a place it ain't supposed to be on me, has a nasty habit of turning into a septic cyst, ie pus pocket. That would be all I would need, another infection! He now says I can start lifting things up to about twenty pounds, and start driving again. (Everybody better look out!!;)) All in all, feeling best I have felt all summer.:D

I've finished writing my review of the Bowser USRA 2-10-2. Just need to get a few pix of it painted, (Can't do that without painting it,) before I can post it.:p I also milled the frame a lot and have fitted a NWSL 36:1 gearbox into it along with a sagami can motor. Discovered that I still need to mill a little more as it is a tight fit for the gearbox and it needs a little more "breathing room" for best operation.:)Preliminary tests shows that this has the distinct possibility of becoming an even better runner than when it had that big open frame in it.:D A few minutes with a Dremel cutter will get it done.

Chris;

Glad the wife is better! No one really can understand what that type of sickness can do to a person until they go thru it themselves. It a lot more than just a PITA.

Steve;

There are several gas stations around here that has gas now as low as $2.80 a gallon. Thats more than a dollar a gallon less than what we had to pay to go to Mobile for my MIL's funeral, about a month ago.

Well that's all for now, gotta go and see what other trouble I can get into, people to piss off etc.....

Good morning.

It's 60 and very cloudy here. The high is expected to be in the mid 70's and it will be mostly cloudy.

Yesterday I worked on relighting some of my structures and did a short tutorial on how to do such with old Christmas lights. This has already been posted on some of the forums I attend. Today I may post it on some others. I'm also learning more about my Digitrax system with each passing day but try as I might I can't find a section on how to program the neighbors dogs to stop barking. Anybody mastered this yet?

I'll have to visit your layout and see the progress you have made. Sounds like you are about to get all the track work finished.

Chris- thanks for sharing the information that your wife is improving. The emotional toll on family and friends can be devastating at times. Besides all that loving support and hospital visiting takes away from the time you could be playing with trains.

It is kinda funny how much I look forward to seeing people's comments about their health and everyday activities as well as their modeling adventures. I can spend a few moments in the morning or at lunch scanning the forum and it will brighten my day.
Well, now that I have been brightened and enlightened for a while, I must go back to work.

Good morning folks

It was a chilly 50 F as I left this morning. High today will be 64 F. A front came through last night and the temperature went from 80 F at 6:30 PM to 55 F by 8 PM. For a while last evening the wind kicked up and the sky got dark like a real nasty thunderstorm was coming. We got a few drops of rain but nothing else.

We had to do some shopping for my daughter’s birthday party last night. My daughter’s volleyball team lost again. They played better but they lack the killer instinct. They had the other team down 24 to 21 and could not put them away and lost 26 to 24. They lost the second game 25-22.

This weekend my son has the first popcorn selling shift at our Saturday location. After he is done we have my daughter’s birthday party. She is doing a shopping party at a local mall. Apparently this is the big party thing with 13 year-old girls. On Sunday my son has no popcorn shifts scheduled although he will be on call to possibly cover for one of our no show specialists. My wife works Sunday also and we have to fit in grocery shopping.

Who knows maybe I will squeeze some train time in.

Chris
Glad to hear your wife is home. Hope her recovery continues to go well.

Good Morning, everyone.

Andrew, we'll switch to metric when you get a real gallon instead of that "imperial" thing. :) It is actually silly that we all don't use metric and downright dangerous sometimes. We had a job in Mexico on a dam and our engineers were doing all the drawings in inches and the Mexicans were doing all the drawings in metric. Caused no end of confusion and we had a few things could have caused real problems if we hadn't gotten the common measurements right. How much of your petrol price is because of taxes? The total tax on a gallon of gas here is about 60 cents a gallon, which is why our gas prices are so relatively low. I wouldn't even mind paying more for gas if I had another means of travel but there are no passenger trains in Alabama so driving is my only real option.

Chris, I hope your wife is doing better or at least in not as much pain. Believe it or not, I think we are moving toward a common global language and it's English. In all my travels around the world, France was the only country when not knowing the language was a real problem. Everywhere else, almost everyone 30 or under spoke English, sometimes a lot better than the average American high school student.

CJ, nothing more fun than pus pockets. Sounds like you are at least healing on schedule. I'm looking forward to seeing your Bowser complete. I've had several Bowser steam engines in my modeling life and I never could make them run worth a darn. It should be a good day for pictures tomorrow and at least we won't all be dropping like flies for dehydration. :) We actually have a shower right now so maybe it will take a few more days for my lawn to die completely.

Morning, Phillip.

Paul, sounds like a nice day up there. Enjoy it before the first blizzard arrives. :D

Mikey, see you tomorrow. Thanks for keeping things coordinated. BTW, I'll be the guy in Ohio State cap, speaking of pissing people off!

Tom, every time I read one of your posts, I have the urge to go down lay down and take nap.

David, sounds like a perfect day in the California foothills.

My brother and sister-in-law arrived yesterday and my son will be down here on the 23rd so we'll have a family reunion of sorts for a few weeks. It will be nice to see see them again. I'm hoping to get my Digitraxx DCC system completely installed and get my crossing gates and signals up while my brother, who actually understands electricity, is here.

Morning, Phillip.

Happy TGIF guys!
Nice and cool today and only 61 deg at this hour. For some reason, this weather puts me into gear for high intensity modeling.

Metric conversion:eek:! I always loved the argument that metric had greater accuracy. That may stand with common fractions being used for something they were not developed for; although 1/4 of something is always 1/4. On the other hand, 0.001 of an inch is a bit more finite than 0.001 of meter. It's all relative. Pleeeze guys, not again. Let's bury that thought as we did a few years back. Maybe when the Brits drive on the right right side of the road instead of the wrong left side:D.

Mikey: You guys should have some fine weather. Wishing you loads of fun.

JIM:...Believe it or not, I think we are moving toward a common global language and it's English.
Yeah, everywhere except the U.S.A., comprende?

Carey:...Anytime any fluid builds up in a place it ain't supposed to be on me, has a nasty habit of turning into a septic cyst, ie pus pocket.

BTW, I thought you drove on the Left side, you mean you drive on the ....... Never mind! I used to use some of that stuff as examples of Culture. Few people know why the conga drums have the low drum on the right hand side of the performer. It's because it is of African origin and in Africa unlike in Europe, low is on the Right not the Left (Like on the piano). Just a matter of what we grow up with and not a matter of right or wrong.

Good morning.

It's 53 and clear. High today should be in the upper 70's and it will be partly cloudy.

Did a little work yesterday with changing out some of the structure lighting. Also did some work on a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the tracks. It's a Model Power copy of a Faller kit and doesn't have the fine detail of the of the more expensive European manufacturer. On the other hand it will give my people a safe way to cross the tracks. It's not handi-cap friendly though. Had a slight interruption yesterday when the power went out. Turned out that a tree behind my parents property fell over on the lines. The power was out about 45 minutes.

It's comfortable at 54*F under fairly cloudy skys, while I can see some blue here and there, 'There's not enough blue to make a Dutchman a pair of Pants', so we will hopefully get some rainfall? The mountain area here is a bit tricky in that due to the higher elevations not too far to the North and East things change somewhat rapidly and the weather is more savere than in the Fresno or Madera areas in the San Joaquin Valley. So I'll see what's going to happen?

The Photo Contest, I missed the September Small locomotive submission and I have a gem of a loco too, so I guess I need to now work on the current classifaction of modified car maybe ill put both together? I guess that should be allowed? Larry??

Chris it's rough to have someone in the hospital, I been going through that for a good many years with my Father and now my Mom, God Bless their Hearts. The extra running around and the worry sure can take a toll on you. I'm sure we all pray for her speedy recovery!

Hope everyone has a good day and a safe one too!

Good Morning all! Hope all are well and full of vigor this beautiful Saturday. Managed to do a little straightening up in the Depot this morning and can now start building/painting some structures for my town of Mountain View.

Now it's time for me to get ready for some Pre-game activities at the University that I got volunteered for (Thanks Carolyn!!). I hate getting into all that traffic and would rather drive 60 miles and be trackside with the ARG than this foo-foo white shirt stuff. At least I will join-up with a friends tailgate party near the stadium during the game. (They could have at least given me free tickets.) CU all later.

Evening everyone!

Chris I hope your wife makes a speedy recovery and can start feeling better. No fun being in pain! All of you are in my prayers!

Well I got home an hour ago from the Lakeshores Division Meet. My clinic, The Care and Feeding of the Tortoise went very well. Went into overtime as many people had stories to tell and questions to ask about their installation. Many of the "old Timers" said they learned some new tricks that they planned to use from me and I learned a few good ideas myself. Saw some great layouts this afternoon. And...... I can now go "public" with the latest in my life of having no time to get things done! As of Noon today, I am the new Superintendent of the Lakeshores Division of the Niagra Frontier Region of the NMRA.............. (They couldn't get anyone else.....so they are stuck with me......) I have my work cut out for me. Spent a lot of time talking to some of the people who have formerly had the position and a gentleman who is on the regional board. I think we are on the same track and plan to head in the same direction so I hope their will be no derailments, and/or collisions.

Now I have to go unload the car. (The former Super cleaned out his back closet of all the stuff that comes with the job and loaded it into my little Yaris.)

Ray, congrats on the Division Superintendent job - I see another Certificate in your future!

Chris, I really hope your wife doesn't have Krohn's Disease. Hang in there!

Steve, I didn't know there were that many jobs available on the Continent to accommodate 50 million immigrants!

Rex I agree they shoulda given you free tickets, after sacrificing a day with the ARG. Hope the Tide "rolled 'em"

Had a pleasant wireless chat with all the ARG members while they were having lunch at the Irondale Cafe. Also got some track half*-ballasted in the engine terminal, I'm hoping in another week that it will be worth photographing. [* - the ballast is down but I haven't soaked it with glue yet].

Hopefully..... :D And I got 2 more credits toward Author for the clinic today as well.

I fired up the wood stove tonight for the first time this year. Nice and toasty warm in the house! Weatherman says it will be 28°F outside tonight. Garden will be gone tomorrow! Oh well next week I will pout it to sleep for the winter. I want to put some lime on it this fall and rototill in the remains as well as some humus.

Good morning.

It's 55 and clear. A little on the nippy side for Louisiana. The high today will be in the mid 70's with abundant sunshine.

I started in on more work on my coaling station yesterday. I've added some of the beams in the roof and started on cutting out the individual rusted metal sheets for the roof. If I have time today I'll get started on the rafters. What's going to be tricky is getting the right amount of sag in the rafters. Did I mention that this roof is a scratchbuilding project?

Today's Weather for:

Mornin', oops...... Ah, Afternoon everyone. I've been up so don't start......

Haven't been outside yet, but we did get a killing frost last night so the garden is history for this year. Hopefully later this week I will get it limed and tilled and pet to bed for the winter. Currently 49°F with a high of 52° later today. I have to show up for an Art exhibit, "Global Visions", of my sister's at a Mexican Restaurant in Canandaigua later this afternoon. I have already seen all the paintings that are being displayed but need to be there for "support" purposes...... Then we will have dinner at the restaurant... I hate Mexican food..... (I hate it, but I ate it...) They keep putting Smaters in everything and I gag on the stuff. Never been able to eat them since I was a little kid.

Chris I too hope that your wife doesn't have Crohns Disease. I had a friend several years ago who had that. She had lost some of her intestine and was on a very restricted diet due to it. Not a fun thing to have to deal with. But if she does, it can be treated very successfully in most cases today. Good luck to her and know that you all are in my prayers.

Well, off to work on the layout for a bit.

Morning all! I managed to survive another football Saturday with a Bama win. After I did my foo-foo duty at my friend's reception, I quickly changed clothes in the restroom and joined a full fledge tailgate party. Wow! This was my first experience at tailgating and it was a blast with 3 TV's operating on a generator, all kinds of food, fun, and excitement. No one got beyond the giggle stage of drinking which made things nicer for all. I begged out in the 3d quarter to beat the traffic and get back home to my coaching recliner:D

Well, it was fun but a shame I had the conflict with the ARG timing. Hopefully, I will catch the next one or even host it. Ya'll have a very good day.:)

Good Afternoon to all,
The weather here at 7:40 Am was 50* so not too bad but no rain but some very high Circus clouds so I see what happens tonight.

Didn't get anything else don on the C & S West SL yesterday as I had to take a run down to Fresno to visit Mom in the Convalecent Hosp. which I try to do every few days. It's a 82 mile round trip and kills the best part of two hours depending on traffic.

Several times on the way home I stop of at a Barnes & Noble and look through the train magazines. Last night I picked up one, Model Railroad Craftsman? which had a number of nice articles about different layouts in it and the photography/printing was all execlent. Well this turned out to be a very satisfying turn of events, not only was I enjoying looking at the different layouts but as I got towards the back, I think the last layout article was that showing an On2 1/2" D&RGW layout that looked very intresting and somewhat up my alley as it similiar to what I intend for my layout to look like. So as I am turning the pages I see a lady dressed in a Black outfit holding a hand throttle as she is guiding a train into a saw mill if I'm correct. As soon as I saw her I said to myself,
'That's Mary Miller even though I haven't seen or talked to her or her husband Bill who are both well known Master modelers, the both of them, Mary was the first woman to get her Master Modelers Award.

Well now once I got home I need to find out how to get in touch with them and I did and will be intouch with them via email shortly after I finish saying good morning here. So, I thought that was really Neat to have that happen and will be good talk with them both again!

Chris: I'm sure sorry to hear all the problems your wife is having, it isn't easy I know, Mom & I took care of Dad for a number of years till he passd in 1989 and since about three years ago I took care of my mother day and night for 2.5 years of that time till she needed more care than I could give her so hence the Convalescent Hosp now. Even
traveling back and forth can be Mentally and possibly Physically draining even thogh we don't realize it some times.

Hope she gets well soon, we are all pulling for you!

To the rest of you Hoggers, enjoy pioliting your engines whereever they may be headed!

Have you ever

Steve, as you already know, that rivalry is big throughout the state and people go bonkers the week of the game: old, young, doesn't matter. Records go out the window and all hell breaks loose. This year they play the game here in Tuscaloosa, November 29.

Chris, my wife went through all that mess about eight years ago. The Doc first said it was ulcerative colitis and put her on meds, including Prednisone. After about two years, he said that he now wasn't sure. He consulted with another specialist at UAB and said that it may be Crohns and surgery may be necessary. The wife flatly refused and demanded to be taken off of Prednisone. This is after she gained 60 lbs., hair loss, and became diabetic so bad she had to take injections. After a few months, she began losing weight, hair became healthy, and she got by with only taking the pills for diabetes and feeling fine. When her next exam came due, she changed Doctors and guess what: Nothing was found wrong and many questions remain as to why the problem in the first place...five years of pure ole hell. So you two be careful on making any decisions on treatment. One thing: Stay away from Prednisone.

He has severe loss of short-term memory (hasn't been diagnosed as Alzheimers or dementia - yet) but he still remembers who I am :D. He's doing great, loves his new car (a Kia) that he got because he toasted his little BMW :( because he forgot to have the regular maint. done on it and it ran out of oil... Anyway, I just hit 60 this year and hope if I live as long as he does that I don't have the memory problems he does ... I'd hate to forget where the train room is

Good morning folks

It was a cold frosty 39 F this morning. Our high toady will be 63 F. We had a bit of frost this morning. On Saturday night I pulled the filter out of the fish pond and sunk the water lilies. I also had to bring in the tropical plants from the front porch. Now it is time to think about pulling the a/c units out of the windows. I tested and the heater for a while last night. This morning was the first morning it came on.

It was a busy weekend. The Cub Scout pack sold popcorn both Saturday and Sunday. My son worked the first shift on Saturday which he was scheduled for and filled in for a non-show on Sunday.

On the way to the popcorn sale the van started to overheat and I had no heat. We got to the mall and unloaded the popcorn and got things set-up. My wife and I then took the van over to Sears and had them check it out. They could not find anything wrong mechanically or electronically. It was low on fluid, however. They flushed and refilled the system and pressure checked it and found no leaks. I plan on taking it to my mechanic and have him look it over. In the meantime I will be keeping an eye out for leaks.

Saturday was also my daughter’s birthday party. They went to a local mall where they went to a video game store that they could try out games. They did a scavenger hunt. We then had some ice cream cake and opened gifts. Lastly they went shopping with the gift cards they got as party favors and any money they brought.

Needless to say no trains this weekend. I am hoping for sometime this week.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning.

It's 50 and clear. A little nippy for this part of the country but nothing I can't handle. The high today will be around 80 with plenty of sunshine.

I've got most of the rafters installed in the coaling station. Sometime today or tomorrow I'll be cutting the pieces of rusted roofing metal to scale 10 foot size and gluing them in position one piece at a time. In some places a piece will be loose or peeled back and some pieces will be missing altogether. This should lend one heck of an effect overall for the structure as it stands a lonely vigil beside an abandoned stretch of track.

This afternoon I have to go to DeRidder to see a urologist about my prostate condition. It shouldn't take long, a couple of hours at the most.

Today's Weather for:

riverotter glad you stopped in to the Coffee Shop! Good to see you here. (Flo, I'll take care of his tab this morning.) Congrats on your Dad reaching 87, some memory problems seem to go with that age. My Mom died at 88 and had dementia. Near the end she couldn't remember that I had been up to see her two days earlier and sometimes thought I was my Father.... It is a sad situation.

Tom it is indeed that time of year. I fired up the wood stove Saturday evening for the first time this year and had a fire in it again last night. My cats liked having something warm to lay next to so i know where to find them in the evenings.

Well I have to get going. I bought 2 face cords of wood from a fellow railfan here in Geneva and I have to pick it up today. See you all later!

Good Morning to Everyone,
It was 48*F at 8:30 this morning so it was getting a bit nippy outside alright.

I didn't really get much of anything done on my layout yesterday, too much time spent on the darn computer. I did run my Old Time Climax and a few cars up and down Ridgecrest Grade several times so that was enjoyable using the Aristo-Craft Radio controlled hand throttle, very enjoyable to be able to follow the train in it movement. Somewhat like a video photographer photographing the loco's movements. Very enjoyable indeed and on a DC layout too! The advancements that have been made from a few years back!

Say Cjcrescent: It truely is a small world, when I posted that info about Mary Miller who would have thought that someone on the forum here would have actually been on a judging panel with her. I imagine she does have quite a bit of craftswoman ability. Her and her husband Bill have been in the hobby for many years now!

RIVEROTER & Others: Dimentia & Atzheimers can be at least be halted if not reversed by taking four items found at most health food stores;[ Nattokinase [The 'NOW' Brand]] it is a bit of a blood thinner so check with your doctor if taking other blood thinners, [Hupperzine A] to stimmulate the memory, [Alpaha Lipoic Acid] King of the Anti-Oxidents, as stated, and [DHA-250] is a consentrated Omaga Three Fish Oil!
These four taken in combination can at least halt Altzheimers if not reverse it! I've seen the effect it had on my Mom's Dimentia and turned that around in fairly short order!! I took care of her for 2.5 years Day & Night after her Large Stroke. I did double up on the Hupperzine A in the beginning.

Actually Nattokinase [ The NOW Brand ] is good for everyone to take as its an enzyme that gets into the blood and literally consumes all the bad junk including Clots etc an does not leave any residue! I've been taking this for the past three years and feel a lot better. With better blood flow your bound to feel better!

Steve- Appreciate the effort, but it will not open for a "YANK".
(That is a funny term since I used to be a Southern boy.)
I can see from the picture that he is at an Alabama-Auburn game from the fans dress.
If Auburn lost the game, it was over 6 years ago, but may be a historic repeat for this year. Auburn has not played very well this year, but Bama has struggled at times, too.

Rex- The ARG gathering was better than what I saw of the game. You just didn't want to associate with us, although, several ARG folk are devout Bama fans.
We will select a time outside football season for the next gathering, just for you! LOL;)

Yeah Mikey, the game was pretty sloppy in the second half...as usual. Certainly not the play that you would expect from a #2 team. If they can ever play the full game like the first two quarters, there is not a team out there that can beat them...definitely not the War Buzzards!:p:D

Just as soon as I get some loose ends cleared up on the layout, I will be looking at a date to host an ARG, sometime when there is not a home game (may have to have it first of December like I've done the past couple of years). Unless you guys want to fight the traffic of 100,000 plus maniac fans.

The doctors appointment went well today. My prostate gland has shrunk some, something I was happy to hear. After a few simple tests I was released from the clinic and on my way back to Leesville. I had been in and out within an hour! Now I had to go to the hospital in Leesville to have a simple PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test done. It's so simple I should be in and out in no time. I signed in at the admitting desk then waited while they contacted my PCP (Primary Care Provider) for a MedicAid referral (government regulations, gotta love them. NOT!). An hour passes, then two. No it's starting to get late and I'm getting more and more ticked off with each passing minute. Finally I go to the window and inquire as to what the delay is. They say they can't get a referral from my PCP and that I'll have to come back tomorrow. Tomorrow nothing!! I've got grass to cut tomorrow and it won't wait. Besides which, I'm on a very small fixed income and I can't afford the gas to be running back and forth all the time at the hospitals beck and call. They tell me again that they just called and can't get a referral. I saw nobody lift a phone. I called my doctor and had the referral faxed to them inside of two minutes! My doc said no one had called within the last three hours for a referral for me. I have little patience for bureaucratic red tape and I have zero tolerance for a liar! I told them flat out that they need to fire whoever is in charge of getting referrals and get someone in there that will do the job. The PSA test was done in less than 5 minutes. I was pissed!

I'll second that! I have a blood draw twice a year and the PSA is done on one of those occasions. I would say in your case bureaucratic red tape wasn't the problem but rather the lab that wasn't doing their job.

I spent part of the day loading and moving 4 pickup loads of cut but not split wood across town (Locust, class 1 heating wood). Got 2 face cords from a railfan buddy of mine. $45 per face cord. Good price even though I will get to have some exercise splitting it...... Woodstove is lit and heating the house right now. It is now that time of year.

Morning all!

Chilly 'round here! I think my scoot riding days are over for this year. It's just too darn cold! I nearly froze to death yesterday morning! I'll be driving the van for now. I'm hoping to get my funding for a nice little Porsche 914 soon though. Good on gas and fun in the corners! We'll see!

Good morning everyone. Just thought I'd pop in and see what's up. I have today off, but I have quite a few things on my to do list. One of them is laying road bed, but it is waaaaaay down on the list. The rest of the list involves manual labor of some sorts. Whether it's cleaning my house, or finishing up the yard work at my Grandmother's, it doesn't sound like fun.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Good morning folks

It was a chilly 44 F as I rolled onto the highways this morning. High today will be 62 F.

My daughter’s volleyball team finally broke out of their slump and won a match. They are 5 and 3 for the year with 4 games to go.

I did not get any modeling in last night. Not sure why. I thought I would have time but a lot of little things seemed to take up all my time.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Afternoon, everyone.

I haven't had a chance to get here since I lost my internet until Sunday and I was too tired to get this far down the page yesterday. :)

Chris, I sure hope your wife is doing better. Those GI problems can be real bears to track down and treat. With all the tests she's having, I hope they come with the cause and some treatment.

Jeffrey, the worst part about what you went through is that there's now some real question whether PSA tests are worth the effort and money. Too many false positives and negatives. There's a new test in use that measures free PSA and I think that will become the standard in a year or two. You'll still have to wait for hours to get anything done but at least the test might provide useful results.

I hope everyone else is doing as well as they can. My brother and SIL are here for a visit and my son and his wife should be here Thursday so I think the layout will take a back seat for a couple of days. Still beautiful weather down here with lows in the high 40's and highs in the 70's.

Now that I think about it, my test may be the PSA. Heck, I don't know...that's why I trust my Doctor. Regardless, either test is better than just a finger wave. One of the ARG members had prostrate cancer and it wasn't discovered until he had the test.

Chris, it sounds like you need a new doctor, a new hospital, or both. Even terminal cancer patients don't have to suffer the kind of pain it sounds like your wife is having. At the very least, deamnd a consulatation with a pain management specialist. There are all kinds of combinations of drugs they can give to patients in pain and no one whould have to suffer like that in this day and age. Take a deep breath and try not to let all this get to you or you're liable to end up in the same hospital. Now's the time to get assertive with her doctor and the hospital, not let the stress build up inside you.

Ken, it will be a full house but it will be nice to see everyone again since we only get together about once a year. This is a great time for them to come down here since the weather is so nice and the leaves are just starting to change.

There's a nasty tropical depression in the south Caribbean that's already killed 11 people in Honduras from flooding. It looks like it should move up our way about Friday and either give us a pretty good rain or we'll get nothing because all the convective activity in the Gulf will cut us off from the gulf mositure. You never know down here.

Good morning.

It's 57 and clear. The high should be around 80 and it will be partly cloudy with a good chance of rain tonight.

Cut the grass yesterday then fixed the outside doorknob on the trailer next door. It just needed a simple lube job. The inner workings were so dry it was all stuck together. I then came home and worked on getting lights into a few more structures. No further progress to report on the coaling station. I still have to cut up the roofing metal. I'm expecting a cable technician to show up today to find out what's up with the wild upload speeds out here. Yesterday my upload speed was 2. It should be over 500. I double checked it on my mother's computer (almost a 1/4 mile from here) and it's doing the same thing. My neighbor was also complaining about slow speeds. That tells me it's not my system doing it but rather some of SuddenLink's equipment. Maybe one of these days they'll find the problem. This has been an issue for about a year now. Things slow down, a tech comes out and works on some of the booster boxes and fixes the problem and everything runs fine for two or three weeks then it starts all over again.

It was 41 F on the way this morning. Our high is supposed to be 53 F. It looks like Autumn has finally arrived.

I pulled the air conditioners out of three of the four bedroom windows last night and covered the big a/c unit on the first floor. The heater has been coming on in the morning the last couple of days.

I had to take my daughter to her flute lesson while my wife picked up one of dogs from the vet. He had a dental done and they had to remove some bad teeth. This morning he is still a little out of it but he ate a little bit of food before I left for work.

Mornin' everyone!

Just as Paul said, the Finger Lakes region is also having a cool day. currently 38°F with a sweltering high of 41°F later this afternoon. I too have some medical stuff today. This afternoon I have to see my Dermatologist for a recheck of the Fungus infection on my leg. It has been getting better little by little so I think it should be right on schedule. While I am in Canandaigua I will stop in at the new Michaels store there and see if they have a couple items I need for the layout.

Chris I too am hoping for a quick relief of the pain your wife is experiencing. That should be controlled, and I would demand to speak with both the Dr. assigned to her case and the head nurse on the floor. If that doesn't resolve it, go to the administration and demand to be heard. Suggest to them that it is much nicer to speak with you than your lawyer! I did that several times when my wife was being treated for Leukemia. The mention of your lawyer usually gets their attention quickly.... You as next of kin have every right to be kept informed of what is going on and to be told why she is in such pain.

Good Morning to all from Coarsegold, Calif.
It's now 52*F at 10:45 and clear skys for the Central portion of the State.

Chris,
Your wifes situation sure sounds like something a pain specialists should look at, it's pretty odd the hospital can't diagnose the problm with all the modern technology we have. Ray is right that as her husband you most certainly should have the ability to get whatever information is abailable unless your wife stated that she didn't want them to tell you. Under the Federal privacy act form it specifically states that family members have the right to know and be involved in decision making for their loved one unless she had specifically excluded you. This maybe a part of your problem to get information as they may have asked her when she was in very bad pain if she wanted to exclude you and she may have said yes by mistake? Ask her the next time you see her if they had asked anything like that, [that she didn't want you to have access to her medical information]?

I've run into situations in dealing with my mothers health care where some individuals become very over zealous in claiming I/you don't have the right to know when you do.
Even if she said she didn't want you to know by mistake or without knowing it as long as she states to the Dr. or head nurse she does want you to access to her information and decision making they then are legally obligated to obide by that. Talk with your wife and if she wandt you to have access you can always talk with the Administrator to get things changed around.

Hope all have a goo day!

Hi fellows! Another beautiful day here, but hoping for some rain.
Now that I have scheduled an ARG meet for my house, I have to get on the ball and finish a couple of started projects on the layout. Don't know why I can't keep all my oars in the water and just finish a project before starting another.

Chris: Jeeze! That's terrible what's going on with your wife. Like the guys have said, demand to know, question their methods of treatment. So many in the medical field try to present a god-like attitude; that they are beyond reproach. Bull, those days are gone and I look at them as body technicians that can make bad decisions or mistakes. Prayers be with you and yours.

Wife seems better to day? Night and day diffrence! Now her doctors are convinced that it's just a real bad GI Infection. All the tests and MRI's, Cat's, and Scopings hasn't showed much in the way of organ failure......Just a fungus infection in her GI. So Last night They have been giving her some heavy duty pain drugs and some real heavy duty antibiotics.......Then gave her a stool sofener so she can have a heavy duty BM.........After her HD BM this morning she said she felt a lot better! She still has pain but not as bad as before. I'm praying that it is just a bad GI infection! we'll see, she told me she may come home thurdays or friday if things keep going the way they are(Better)!!!

I've got my two switchers (Athearn SW1000 and Proto 2000 SW1200) converted to DCC, no easy task considering they were straight DC before. The two will be lashed up together with the headlight of the lead unit on full time in forward and flashing in reverse. The cablight on the trailing unit will on steady in reverse and flashing in forward. You gotta think about that for a second to get it straight. They're both hardwired with DZ125's so there were no space issues. It was a bit of speed matching an Athearn and a Proto 2000. The Athearn was way faster. I've got them pretty close now though. The Athearn is set on the switcher speed table and the Proto is flat out on the main line speed table. And that's with the decoder wired straight to the motor, no resistors anywhere.

I hope it will dry over night as it is cold and a bit damp. Tomorrow if it warms up some I'll prime tha other side and hit the bodys with a coat. HO is so much easier and lighter to handle.

Chris, I sure hope she's on the right path now but, if not, raise a ruckus! It sounds like, regardless of what caused it, her chief cause of pain was a bowel impaction. You don't need MRI's to figure this out and her bowel impaction should have been relieved her first day in the hospital. I'm like Ray. When my late wife had leukemia, I was the last person they wanted to see walk in the hospital. I called the State Department of Health twice after getting no satisfation from the administration for her poor treatment. They wrote them 91 citations before things started to improve...slightly. Unfortunately, making them fear you works better than trying to be Mr. Nice Guy now. Anyone who goes into the hospital without a medically knowledgeable advocate today is in big trouble.

Jeffrey, you can really do some amazing things with those old Athearns and decoders. I have a few sitting around that keep staring at me and wanting to know when it's their turn on the track. Maybe I should send them over to you for surgery. :)

Paul, nice to see you again and hear about your work. Those large scale trains are sure nice to look at but it gets to be too much like working on a real railroad at times.

My brother and I spent about 6 hours installing a new TV in the RV today. We had to rig up a whole new mount because the old TV was a 20" CRT and the new one is a 19" LCD. Big hole, much smaller TV, and not much to anchor it to. It took some thinking and planning but we finally got it mounted. Now I need to buy some molding and stain it cherry to match the rest of the interior. My back hurts. :D

Oooooooo, ah, oh man.......... I am not going to be able to move to move by tomorrow! I finished splitting and stacking 2 face cords of wood today. I needed to get it done so I can have my son help me load the splitter into my trailer to be taken out to the RR museum on Saturday. We will be spending the day getting firewood ready for the Depot and the repair building this Winter. The forecast says it is going to be rain all day. Sure hope they are wrong.

Well dinner is on the grill and I don't like burned entrees.... Later!

Good morning.

It's 45 and clear here. That barbed wire fence between here and the north pole has done fell down. The high is expected to be in the mid 70's and it will be sunny.

Well, this morning I went and did it! I turned the heater on for the first time this season, just long enough to take the chill off. I must remember next year to vacuum the dust off the coils before doing that again. What a smell! Yesterday I went over to see what progress is being made on my nieces trailer. They've got half of the sheetrock up so far and are wondering what type of paneling to get. Some of the major appliances are in already, refrigerator (they had to take the entire front door frame out of the wall to get it in), oven/range (electric), microwave (and is it a BIG one). The central AC/heat is in (all electric), electric water heater. There won't be anything in the trailer that uses gas. Guess she took a lesson from me on that one. I don't have any gas appliances either.

Good morning folks

It was 38 F as I rolled out of the driveway this morning. High today is supposed to be 62 F. They say we will get rain tonight and tomorrow.

This is a busy weekend. We have the last weekend of our Cub Scout Popcorn Show and Sells. I am not sure what we are going to do if it rains on Saturday as the location we are at does not have much protection. Also Saturday we have Cub Scout Fitness Day which is a mini Cub Scout Olympics. Our pack is the defending champions from last year.

Last night I managed to get some time to put away some things off the layout. I also was able to look over the layout and saw a few things I have to fix like knocked over people or a door off a building. If all goes well that is what I will try to care of this weekend and maybe run a train.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' Jeffrey!

Mornin' Tom!

I know it's afternoon already. This place is empty Flo. Where is everybody?

My son came over this morning and we got his new cover on his boat. Yesterday we drained about 20 gal. of water out of her as the tarp he had thrown over her blew of during the last rain we had. We got this one tied down and I built a stand foe inside the boat to help the water drain off. We also got the log splitter loaded into my trailer to take to the museum tomorrow.

Ah, Jeffrey, that wonderful aroma of burnt dust........... Went through that about 3 weeks ago here.

It was 45°F when I checked this morning, currently 53° with a high of 56°. Actually a very nice crisp Fall day here in the Finger Lakes. Tomorrow the weather is going to be rainy and cool. Great day to work out on the railroad (1/1 scale) splitting wood. I hope they decide to bring the wood under cover somewhere so I can split it and not get soaked. Hypothermia isn't something I like.......

Have a great day all!

Afternoon, everyone.

Been spending time with the relatives so not much time here. Of course, after I told them how nice fall weather is here, we have a day and a half of rain, gloom, and a high of 59. Oh well, we needed the rain, and it should clear up to about a week of nice fall weather for the next week.

Chris, how are things with your wife?

Steve, so you've sent off all the emigration paperwork? Good deal, step 20 of your 2300 step project plan is now complete. :)

Ray, I'd be laid up for a week if I had done all the wood cutting you have. Sounds like you have enough for two winters now, even up there. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just eat like your granddaughter and not worry about making a mess? I'm looking forward to doing that again when I get old and senile. :)

Tom, never look too closely at your layout. I was inspired by Ray and painted some of my yard tracks to give them the proper rusty look. While having my head down there on the tracks, I found about 15 things that had either fallen off, gotten bent, to just didn't look right. It all looked fine if I just stood there with my hands in my pockets and looked down.

Paul, you'd be amazed at just how dumb people are at grade crossings. Don't know if this woman was drunk but we had track that ran alongside a street with road that crossed at a right angle. At least once a week, someone would turn onto the tracks instead of the road next to it. The railroad finally filled in the space with ballast up to the railheads to make it easier for us to get a tow in and get the car off the tracks. Most of the people weren't drunk, they just couldn't seem to tell the difference between a road and railroad tracks.

Hope everyone else is having as good a day as they can. I'm actually looking forward to seeing some sun again.

Chris is right Steve, he's either bored or in trouble!:D;) Which is it???:p

Glad your wife's feeling better Chris, and I know that you're glad she's home. Is she on the bland diet for the ulcers or the fungus? Hope it ain't for the ulcers as that was determined years ago not to be a good treatment for ulcers. No one, it seems, could or would follow it, as it was just...too bland!;)

Well I get to go back to the MD myself and get these cysts drained again. Hope they stay drained this time, as they're interfering with my getting back up to full speed. Have no appetite to speak of, and still running a low grade fever. William, (L&NCastle) came over last night to show me some of his latest work and after about 30 minutes I had to run him off cause I was feeling so bad.

I did show him the progress I had made on the 2-10-2. I finally got a functioning substitute gearbox in it until I can get a new one from NWSL. He can attest that she runs smooth and quiet.:) Now I just gotta repaint it and post the review and retake some pics. He showed me the latest on his other L&N "Woodie" caboose, he's building. Looks real good so far!

Well I guess I need to go now. Time to take my morning meds, (all 3,192,345 of them:eek:) and try to get some sleep. Since my surgery, my sleeping habits have been all screwed up. Some nights have no problem sleeping at all, while the next night I can't sleep any. Go fig.:(

Steve, I bet if you removed the furniture you could fit one heluva layout in there! :D

Chris, glad your "better half" has returned home. Ulcers definitely are not fun, I had a nasty one back in 1988 - had to be in a sitting-up position to get any sleep at all, otherwise the acid would settle on the ulcer and aggravate it. Zantac was still a prescription medicine back then, that's what got me thru it.

Carey, hope they get 'em drained right this time so your recovery can be complete!

It's a wet one here in central Md, off-and-on drizzles mostly - but enough to cause my 10yr-old's soccer game to be cancelled. What a dissappointment. Guess I'll be stuck in the garage most of the day............................................... ............................:p:D:p:D:p:D:p:D:p

Morning Everyone.
Chris, good to hear your wife is back home again. I'd be interested to know the name of this supposed fungus infection since that's a pretty unusual cause of the type of GI pain and apparent ulcers she has. Still, the main thing is that she's home and in less pain. Glad you were able to pick up a few bucks mowing. We had enough rain that I think my lawn may actually be growing ever so slightly instead of just turning brown.

Steve, nice taste in chairs. :) Those boys do have kind of an evil look about them - I think they were up to something and you interrupted them.

CJ, sorry the results of the surgery are still giving you trouble. It seems like it's almost impossible to do gut surgery and not have infections. When I'm sick, my sleep schedule gets all messed up too so I hope you're conked out by now. Sounds like the 2-10-2 is coming along.

Jeffrey, nice work on that coaling tower. Strange how little details can take up so much time, isn't it?

Ken, there's nothing I love better than the sound of prepubescent girls playing soccer. The field is almost a mile from us and I can hear that screeching, screaming noise very clearly when the wind is right. I'm sure that there are others in the area who aren't brokenhearted that there's no soccer today. :D

Had almost an inch of rain yesterday and nice sunny skies this morning. A little chilly for us right now at 55 but it should get into the low 70's and be a nice day. Hope everyone else has a great day.

What's strange, Jim, is normally when I'm sick or running a fever of any kind, my body generally deals with it by marathon sleep sessions. Sometimes these can last 36-40 hours at a time before I wake up for a few hours and then crash again for another marathon session. That's not happening this time.

Evening everyone!

Chris, glad to hear your wife is back home. Hope she gets to feeling 100% soon. No fun being sick and in pain. I sure hope that the stew is from the raccoon I saw beside the road and not the 2 deer on the Thruway this morning. There wasn't much left of the 2 deer. Real brused up if you know what I mean.

I just got home from the Rochester and Genesee Valley RR Museum. spent the day splitting wood with my machine. We put it inside the renovation building to split the wood but had to go outside to bring in wheelbarrows full of cut wood. I am chilled to the bone as it was cold and rainy all day. the only time we could get warm at all was in the depot for lunch. Had the pot bellied stove fired up. I guess we did around 5 face cord of wood today. 4 of us working on that detail. I mainly ran the splitter. That will probably suffice for the needs of the depot this winter, but there is some more to be split . I left it up there so they can finish the job next weekend.

I already lit the wood stove when I got home and have dinner burning on the stove, so I'll catch you all later.

Good Evening/Night all,
Been haine a real poblem with my computer and Spyware and possibly Viruses too? Any just finally got the Crap cleaned off it so it performes again finally!

Rex: Tell your grandson for me, even though I don't know him, that I'm thankful he is Serving Our Country and to keep his hind end safe by all means!

Ray: I've always been intreged by the term you used, 'Face Cord'? Exactly how much of a cord is a face cord?
I've cut and split by hand, the larger rounds of Oak, a few cords of wood in past times and know it no easy job as Rex states even with a hydralic spliter. That wood you show seems to split fairly cleanly wihout too much tareing between pieces as with the Oak out here.

Thanks for the picture, btw, it appears you have three rows of wood stadked by the shed entrance except that the outer stack is only half the with of the full stack as well as half the height, guess you've been using from that outer stack.
How long are the lengths of the cut pieces, it would appear they are about 12" to 14" in length. Out here some of the wood cuttes weren't giving people an honest cord of wood
which is quite a bit of wood as it's 2' wide by 4' high by 16' long or two rows 8' long.

That reminds me I had better get busy and start cutting some wood for myself fort the winter time which isn't too far off to cut back on the heating bill.

Have you modeled any cut wood stacks or piles on your layout for any wood burning Loco's or even for various places to burn? That can add lot of interest

Mornin' Everyone!

As I predicted I have some muscles letting me know they got used a lot...... Worst is my right foot from standing and working on and around ballasted tracks much of the day.

DARN Ray, that is a lot for a day's work...even with a powered splitter. That will sure feel good this winter. ;) For curiosity, how much do you burn each winter?

I go through between 6 and 7 face cords a winter.

David a "face cord" is 4' x 8' x whatever length the wood is cut to. The wood I have stacked in the photo is between 16" and 18". I generally cut 18" to 20" for myself. Therefore usually 2.5 or so "face cords would be a full cord (4' x 8' x 4'). The wood in the Photo is only 6' wide but is 5' high. If my math is any good, it is just a bit over 2 "face cords" or close to a full cord. I close stack wood that is cured as well so it is dense. Green wood looks like more as I stack it loosely to let more air around it.

I was off on my calculations for yesterday as it was 5 "containers" which were 4' x 3' x 2'. So it comes to about a cord of wood. Still not bad as there was a lot of hauling loading and cutting involved as well.

Last year March was my highest heat bill for the winter. Almost 3 times my normal. We had a cold March here and I was out of wood.......

Today is my son's 42 birthday party (Tuesday is really his birthday) so that, playing with my granddaughter, and recovering from having to do that "W" word yesterday is on the agenda. May even get to finish work on one of the Overton Coaches I am repainting and decaling.

Catch you all later.

:)Hi everyone!
We had a nice visit with the Grandson. He said that it was very likely he will be going to Afghanistan when he finishes Airborne and additional Artillery training. Not good, but I'm very proud of him. Thank you David for your comment and God bless our young Americans and those from other countries that protect the rights and freedoms of all.

About the firewood: I have an open fireplace and order mine from an old fellow that does it in his retirement. I pay $75 a heaping 3/4 ton pickup 24" load that fills my 8 foot rack to 5.5 feet high, little over a face cord. When my brother was living in the New Orleans area, he paid $200 for 1/4 of a pickup load (of course it came from 100 miles away;)) I have thought about an insert for the fireplace to help with the heating instead of just for aesthetic value. Those things have gone up so much, it would take several years to see a savings.

Ray is that Oak or pine?

Actually neither. It is Locust wood. Very hard and long burning. Similar to Oak. Both are class 1 heating woods. Not a good idea to heat with pine, you'll end up burning your house down when the creosote ignites in the chimney. besides it won't coal up and produces little long term heat. Locust would do nicely for cooking over coals.

Just got home from my son's B-day Party. We were sitting around watching the end of the Giants/Steelers game when there was a flash and a loud clap of thunder outside..... We all cleared out and went home. I had left the computer on and they were showing a warning on TV for a line of dangerous thunderstorms near Buffalo. Turns out that line of storms won't be anywhere near us.

Got some cute shots of my Granddaughter at the party, even got a couple of my son and wife.

Good morning folks

It was 43 F as I rolled out this morning. High will be 60 F.

We had a busy weekend with Popcorn Show and Sales and Cub Scout Fitness Day. This was the last weekend for the Show and sales and the popcorn sales end Friday.

No trains this weekend. Since popcorn will be done soon I am hoping for more free time.

Wife’s Tracker is in the shop for state inspection. Hopefully it won’t cost too much. We got off easy with the van so we are figuring if our luck holds we will get slammed on this one.

On Saturday night when she was coming home from the museum she came across a car that had spun out on a curve at the beginning of the northbound Media Bypass (US 1). The car was half up the embankment and had a blown tire. It was driven by a 17 year old girl with her friend in the car. My wife stopped. The girls were hysterical but uninjured. My wife called the police and let the girls call their parents. The road was wet from the recent rain and slick from the leaves. While they were waiting my said cars were sliding all over the place like the road was icy. Also while they were waiting two accidents happened in the southbound direction almost directly across from them. My wife left once the girls’ parents showed up. Ironically the location was the same spot that her father spun out about 20 years before.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Afternoon everyone!

Philip Flurries? Isn't that that cold drink with finely chopped ice and fruit flavoring? Yep we are supposed to get some of them up this way too.

I have spent much of the morning at church working with Lisa Albrecht, Associate Principle Trombonist with the New York Philharmonic who is in town to work with some local schools and will be presenting a concert at my church next Sunday afternoon along with the Excelsior Trombone Ensemble. I will be recording the concert for them. Very cool and I actually get paid to come and hear them......:D All part of a series of concerts featuring local people who have gone on and had successful music careers. Lisa grew up in Phelps, NY just a few miles from here.

I also got an e-mail this morning from a gentleman at the Glenn Curtiss Museum in Hamondsport who says people that we both know have been circulating some photos of my layout and he wanted to let me know he was very impressed with what he has seen. He had several questions about some details. I have invited him up to see the layout with some other folks from that area next month.

All told today has started off very well. So, I wonder what is going to go wrong this afternoon....:rolleyes:

Have a great day!

Tom

That reminds me when my sister got into an accident in Wisconsin. It was where two freeways cross each other at an intersection, and only one had to stop. She was pulling out of the stop sign after looking both ways, not seeing any traffic, and a guy came down the hill doing about 90. He came from a blind spot she could not see (the road curves down the hill). Totaled both cars and he actually ended up on the train tracks down another hill.

While the fire department were cleaning up her accident, another one happened in the same intersection. They said they don't know why they even bother to leave because they will be called out again in 30 minutes to deal with another one.

Week later both highways have huge blinking lights, rumble strips, and stop signs. And it still hasn't solved the problem.

Wow, you guys got it easy on the fire wood..... we use ONLY wood fired heat for our house and burn about TEN cords per season. (thats 40 face cords for Ray!!) Ray, i knew what a face cord was, but never really herd the term used as much as you do, must be a upper NY thing. Here in southern PA, we can get a full cord cut, split seasoned and delevered for about 145.00 I cut most of our wood from our property and towards the end we just get it delivered. I have only cut and split about two cord thus far. I blew the tire out on the old Ford 8N dragging it out last week. so when ever thats fixed, it back into the wilderness for more wood.

Enjoy the cool weather Ryan

Ten cords...... that is a lot of splitting for sure! The face cord thing is how most wood is sold around here. If you just ask for cords, most dealers will think you are talking face cord. I would probably use 12 to 15 face cords (3 or 4 cords) of wood to heat my house if it were the only heat. Of course I live in a small ranch house and two of my bedrooms are not heated at all during the winter as I only use them for storage. About half my heat is from wood (when I can get it free or cheap).

Got my two doctors visits wrapped up this morning so I wouldn't have to make a second trip to town in the afternoon. When I got home I discovered that the cable internet was out - again! Called Suddenlink and told them what I think of the problem. Supposedly there's a tech coming tomorrow to check the problem out. My parents (1/8 of a mile from here) were off too so the problem isn't in my system. My neighbor was off too. Boy, was he ever ticked! Seems that the promblem is in a booster between here and the highway but nobody seems to know which one. RIGHT!Someday somebody is gonna put a load of buckshot in that booster then it will HAVE to be fixed.

OldTrail/Ray: A cord is a tight stack of wood cuts laying parallel and 4x4x8 feet or 128 cu.ft and I always thought a face cord was half of that. My curiousity got the best of me and I now know it's a little different. First, its not an exact nor legal measurement, but generally accepted as 13-16"x4'x8' and closer to 1/3 cord. So I guess my delivered loads are ~1/2 cord since they are ~2x4x8. Interesting.

Good late evening/early morning, everyone.

Been out running around with the relatives today as well as spending about six hours with sprint trying to get my brother's Palm phone to receive data again. Turns out that something is bad in the phone and Sprint tells you to call Palm and deal with them. Now he has to pay $25 for a new phone that's still under warranty. I knew there was a reason I dumped Sprint about 10 years ago.

Steve. holy cow, that's about the worst dental injury I've ever heard of. Is this your regular dentist? I know what happened was bad enough but it could have been much worse. I'd really consider filing a complaint with whatever agency regulates dentists in the UK. Either she doesn't have enough experience, incompetent, or she's on something.

Jeffrey, there have been several times I wanted to shoot my Charter booster as well. Heck, it might even make it work better. :)

Now, coming from California, the land that regulates all things, firewood is part of the deal. A cord of wood is defined by the Department of Weights and Measures as "128 cubic feet of wood". To be sure you have a cord, stack the wood neatly by placing the wood in a line or a row, with individual pieces touching and parallel to each other. Make sure that the wood is compact and has as few gaps as possible. Then measure the stack. If the width times the height times the length equals 128 cubic feet, you have a cord of firewood. The use of terms like face cord or pickup truck load is illegal in California. You can only sell in cords, half cords, and 1/4 cords. Most of the wood dealers have containers built to these sizes and stacked the wood in the container and delivered it so you could see that you were getting a true measure. Of course, all these snappy regulations are probably why a cord of green pine costs $250 in California. :)

It didn't snow here today but it was chilly, with a strong north wind, which made it feel a lot colder. It's 40 right now and I don't think will get much colder since the wind is still up but the wind chill is 33 which is near to about as cold as we Southern boys can stand this early in the season. :D

Good morning.

It's 39 and clear. That Yankee weather is making itself felt way down here in the south. The high will be in the low 60's and it will be sunny.

Got both of my doctors visits wrapped up in the morning yesterday and got home to find that the high-speed internet service was offline. So what else is new! I spent almost two hours on the phone talking to a tech in Tyler who seemed intent on proving that the problem was with my system, even after I had already told him that everyone else out here was out as well. He checked the status of my modem and didn't get any signal back, little wonder since no signal was getting through to it. I had him check the status of my parents modem (I know it was on because I was looking right at it, as I was using their phone) and he got the same results. I asked him what does it signify when you get the exact same result on two completely independent systems 1/8th of a mile apart and he agreed with me that it's got to be a problem upline of our location. The nets up now, barely. It's running about 1/3rd speed on download and upload. A tech is supposed to be coming today to look into the problem. Usually that means they make adjuments on the piece of equipment causing the problem and it's OK until the next time the weather changes (about a week).

Good morning folks

It was a wet and raw 39 F as I headed onto the leaf-slick roads this morning. The traffic report read like a litany of accidents. It seemed like you couldn’t get any where with some sort of delay. I even saw some snow flurries. Our high today is supposed to be 46 F with the rain continuing. They are calling for accumulating snow up in the Pocono’s.

No modeling last night. My daughter had an away volleyball game which they won. I am trying to wrap up our Cub Scout popcorn sale. We have to turn everything in at the end of the week.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mornin' everyone!

Wood stove got reloaded this morning for the first morning this year...... Currently 41°F with a high of 40°F, ah, hmmmm? Well anyway it isn't going to get any warmer and the low will be 32°F this evening. 1" to 3" of heavy wet white stuff supposed to be on the ground tomorrow with another 1 to 3 tomorrow night. Just another beautiful day in the Finger Lakes!

Rex/Jim the buying of wood for fuel falls into that "Buyer Beware" rule. Most of the Tree surgeons around here and others that cut wood for sale are pretty good about making sure the customer gets a fair share, but I have heard some stories about people buying hardwood and it came mostly pine, or upon restacking the wood you only get 3/4 of what you paid for. I usually glean from limbs or trees that are down as much as possible. I prefer free fuel to paid for any day......;);):D

I have 3 days worth of stuff I have been avoiding that has to get done today. So I best get at it! See you all later.

Today, is my wife's anniversary for having the honor of being married to me 42 years :eek:...and I didn't forget...thank goodness! :D

When it comes to firewood, I have been very lucky to find a good supplier. Many will try to screw you over by just throwing the logs in the truck instead of stacking them. They will say that you will get a "pickup load", but if you don't ask it may be a loose pile in a 1/2 ton or even a mid-size truck. One of my students sold wood and showed up at my house in an old Toyota. He told me, "Well, that's the load I sell over at...(He named this richy neighborhood)". When I told him I didn't throw my money around like they do and asked if he wanted to pass his course (kidding).......he added another load.:D:D

Jeffrey: I think all the ISP's hire shade-tree techs. I once had the exact problems you are having. I tried to convince them that it was an area problem and not just me. No-no, they said and ran me a new cable from pole to house, even replaced my modem. Guess what...still didn't work...duh! They finally found the problem 3 blocks away on the pole.:p

I just went out for lunch and the temperature is 38 F and there are snow squalls a couple miles to the east. Some roads are snow covered and in a few cases closed. I don’t think we will hit that 46 F mark. The rain and the wind are really nasty. It actually stings when it hits your exposed skin.

My father and I have learned that when dealing with phone and internet companies, it is always best to inform the tech support (at least on the phone), that you are a hired consultant, and you charge say, $50-100 dollars an hour, and you have been troubleshooting for a couple hours already, and ask where to send the bill. Usually they will deal with you in a much quicker manner.

Of course it may help if you are actually licensed for the type of stuff, but its how we got our modem replaced twice. Of course they still tried to blame the problems on the splitter (which works fine and is of higher quality then the junk they use, and it still didn't work without the splitter)

Ray / Rex I try to get most of out wood off our property. I TRY to get the nice red oak rounds that seam to die off at about the 6" dia and plenty fall every season., plus, this year and last we had bad gypsy mohs, so the picken's are good. I dont mind splitting wood (maul and wedge) but its tha bending over to pick it up put it on the stump, then into the wheel barrow, ect. of all the fancy gizmos we waste our money on, some needs to come up with a way to minimize all the "handeling" of the wood. IE pick it up in the woods, un load at house, pick up to split, pick up after spliting, take out of wagon and stack, take off big stack and take in house to small stack, take off small stack and put in wood stove.

Never realized how many time you touched a stupid piece of wood just to get some heat????!!!! yet still, after all the dropping and moving, how in the world, does all that saw dust still end up in the house??

Good afternoon to all from Coarsegold,
I sure did have problems with my computer containing Viruses and Spyware and for about
three days have had a heck of a job to get rid of the crap! It took some effort to get enough of the crap removed to allow me to load AVG Antivirus on my system, BTW, 'It's a Totally Free Antivirus, Antispyware, Email scanner & Antispam program' so if your in need it is a good one nad the price is right!

I guess I got some of you guys thinking in asking Ray about a Face Cord as far as the actual size. As Rex said, and I guess it happens most everywhere some guys will try and short you by using a couple of different methods. Either not stacking the wood so you can actually what was delivered - especially if they use a smaller truck or very loosely stacking it to make it streach out in filling the area. I found a couple of guys who, along with my help will stack the wood to ensure that there is a full Cord there and bring whatever is needed to make up the differencce if they are short. These are the guys who are making a living from cutting and selling wood. The way I've always been shown to stack a coard of wood that is cut approximately 24" in length is to measure off an 8' length if your going to stack double rows or 16' for a single row and then at each end you stack four or five pieces side by side nice and tight and then build upon those a next row stacked at a 90* angle to the first and son on till you reach the 4' or so hight and this wat it form two usually fairly substantial columns on each end to contain the rest of the wood stacked fairly tightly in between .

Speaking of guys trying to short you or me in this situation, I had one guy come around one very rainy night, after calling saying he had a Cord of wood to sell and he shows up in a Chevy Elcamino and the bed wasn't even piled high or didn't even fill the width with Oak wood and he was trying to pass it off as a Cord and I told him that if he had a quarter of a Cord there he be lucky and sent him on his way. You do have to be careful
about buying wood as there are all kinds of tricks used. Another trick is to try and sell wood that is cut to 16" lengths, for some wood stoves, and only stacking two rows to supposedly equal a Cord when in reality it should be three rows to come up with the actual 4' width.

Well guys have a good night and I'll see you tomorrow, sure glad I got the AVG Antivirus program loaded!

Take care!

Your body becomes a magnet for it and then stops being a magnet as soon as you enter through the doorway. You see the doorway acts a Demagnatizer for all dirt particles up to the size of sawdust. I'm surprised you didn't know that....:rolleyes::D

I used to love going camping in Winter with the Boy Scout Troop when I was Scoutmaster. Even when we were in a cabin at camp, the only heat you had was from the wood stove. You were left just enough wood to start a fire. The Scouts had to find and cut the wood for the weekend. It was a great way to show them the "cost" of energy..........

Evening, everyone.

Happy Anniversary, Rex. You're a lucky guy to find someone who would put up with you for 42 years. :D

Steve, new dentist or not, that's the kind of error that can literally kill a patient. I hope you're feeling better, even on mush, and I do hope you raise a ruckus with someone about this.

Jeffrey, hope they got the node issue actually fixed this time. I don't think that will ever happen here.

Sounds like you guys in the north are getting a nasty storm. Looking at the weather map, this would be a classic Nor'easter if the low had moved up the coast instead of inland. I hate snow but I really hated having the first wet, sloppy snow before Halloween.

It was sunny but windy and cold down here too. Well, not cold exactly, since it did get to 62, but cold for us with the wind chill. It did make it down to 35 last night even with the wind and the wind is starting to die now so we may have our first freeze. Should get up to 70 tomorrow with no wind so it will finally feel like Alabama again.

Good morning.

It's clear and 40 degrees, not as cool as the weather guessers were guessing it would get. The high will be around 70 and it will be partly cloudy.

Didn't get much done yesterday as the cable techs were running around the area trying to get the problem they said didn't exist fixed. I think they may have actually done it this time. From what I could pick up (I was a computer programmer, not a cable tech) a piece of equipment that was causing many problems finally up and died and it had to be replaced. That explains why there was no internet access from this area Monday. They got the replacement in then had to configure it which took most of the rest of the day and into the early hours of Tuesday. That explains why the system was so flaky yesterday morning. By yesterday afternoon everything was stabilized and operating normally. Now I'm waiting for the weather to change to see if it holds up or goes into it's usual pattern of crashing as soon as the wind changes direction. On the modeling side I got more work done on my coaling tower. It looks like a really old structure now that is well on the way to falling apart. After a little more work on the base structure itself I should have it looking like anybody would be afraid to go near it, as it might fall on them.

Haven't been in here much lately because I'm focused on trying to get the layout ready for primetime. It's amazing what you find when you start preparing for outsiders to operate on your pike. I've had to adjust coupler heights, increase car weights, etc. Those are the easy tasks - the more problematic issue will be replacing Atlas #4 turnouts with #6's in certain locations. I have a stockpile of never-used lefthanded #6's available, but I can never get the new ballast and track colors to match the stuff I replaced...grrrr

Jeff I had a similar situation yesterday, the electrical power went off for several hours yesterday...5 minutes after I got home! Always happens whenever the wind blows over 20mph in my area.

Steve - that absolutely sux about your dental accident. Maybe you can collect enough from her malpractice insurance to help finance your move to Kiwi land...

Gotta run, need to get my daughters to school on time!

Good morning folks

It was 42 F and windy on the way to work. High today will be 49 F but the wind chills will be in the low 30’s and high 20’s. Yesterday was a weird and nasty weather day. We had cold temperatures with a biting rain. Some areas had snow. Roads were closed and there were accidents every where.

I thought I would get some modeling done but because of the weather I had to take the roof cover and screens off the outdoor gazebo so they would not be damaged by the winds. I had to take my daughter to flute lesson while my wife stayed home and helped my son out with his first real book report for school. I also had to deliver some popcorn to one the Cub Scout moms since they won’t be at the Den Meetings tonight.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning from the cold, dark, and snowy Finger lakes!

Well, not all that bad I guess, but the current temperature is 35°F and little white bits of partly cloudy are blowing around the area. The predicted high today is for all of 37°F so I think I will get out the winter coat.

All told a good day to stay inside and clean house. Maybe finish a couple of projects for the layout and get a mailing ready for the MLK Committee. I also have a Pack meeting to go to tonight. Have a blood draw tomorrow morning so I have to be "good" today.

See you all later!

Thanks guys for the congrats. Jim, it is amazing the my wife could put up with all my craziness for 42 years, a very very very long time...whew:D.

Jeeze Steve, are you sure she didn't star in the horror movie "The Dentist". My dentist said that movie ruined the profession's work at taking the fear out of a dental visit.

Ken: I know exactly how you feel about preparing for company. All those things you put on the back burner for a later time, suddenly become a priority.

Paul: Did NZKEN ever send you that video clip of the beagle escaping prison? Very cute and funny. If not, I will see if I can send it to you. BTW: How's Buddy?

Good Morning All,
It was a cool but comfortable 54*F here in Coarsegold, Calif.

On the C & S West SL, a few days ago I did get the rest of the wood ties clued down in place and all are distresseed and ready to be stained, just waiting to get some Diasol thinner to thin the paint/stain with and clean the brushes. Plus I need to pick-up some medium brass rod I use to make the point throw rod with for my curved switch along with all the others I'll be making.

Hope you all have a good day and are able to get some railroading in.

Afternoon, everyone.

LOL, Steve, that must the fastest insurance settlement ever...or the best imagination for wishful thinking. :)

Ken, if I had room for #6's, I'd be ripping out my #4's pronto. When I've replaced switches, I just use some chaks to blend in the new ballast. It's not unusual for MOW crews to reballast when they repair or replace switches anyway so some variation in color is not a big deal.

David, sounds like you had a restless night. Sometimes a good long nap fixes everything.

Jeffrey, I'm happy when the power and the internet are both on at the same time. I think there's something about running wires through the woods and then not keeping up with the tree trimming that leads to this problem.

Sounds like the weather is wonderful all the way from PA to Upstate. Yuck! The wind stayed up a bit last night so it only got down to 34. Still a little breezy today but the temperature is a nice 71 so it's another beautiful fall day in the Southland.

I know the feeling. We have the same problem here at times. Just a couple of weeks ago a tree fell across the lines about half a mile from here, just back of my parents property.

I think the thing that kills me most about power going out, is that I am on a different line then my neighbor. Our whole block will be dark, and he will be bright and watching TV in his garage on the big screen.

Other thing abut tree trimming, the trees never look good after. Can't wait till they trim the one in my yard again, that puppy needs to come down before it falls on the line.

Good evening All,
Not much railroading taking place as of late.

The thing that might be of interest to some is that the LA area had a rash of smaller Earthquakes around 2.5 tonight up until about 11:15 I counted 27. I guess it better to have a bunch of smaller ones rather than one big one.

Talk to you in the morning.

Hi everyone, just passed long to say hi, its been very busy for me lately and did not have much time to get in here, even less to work on my layout, so everything is still on hold. Once I find some time I hope I can start again to work on the layout and finish the dockside I was working on.

I saw a few pictures around and they are very awesome, nice job everyone.

Hope to be here more frequently.

Good morning folks

It was 36 F on the way to work this morning. High today will be 51 F.

Temperature here this morning is considerably warmer than Hell as it froze over last night when the Phillies won the World Series. As a life long fan I no longer get over hyped until the deed is done. Visions of Mitch Williams in ’93 or watching the horrendous plays in the LCS games in the late 70’s, and hearing about the collapse of ’64 have lead to too many disappointments. As a friend at work said about us long time fans we hope for the best but prepare for the ultimate let-down. Last night, however, was so sweet watching that last pitch.

Not much else happening. We had Cub Scout den meetings last night and I handed out a bunch of popcorn orders. Today is the last day for popcorn as I turn in the unsold popcorn and paperwork tomorrow.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good Morning from Coarsegold, Ca.,
It' a comfortable 50* with partially cloudy, light clouds, sky with no sign of any rain which we need out here but haven't been getting any of. I think Ray and Paul have been hogging it all. :)

Paul: Hip surgery can sure releive a lot of the pain, my Mother had that done on both hips, total hip socet replacement at different times and found it made a world of a difference. You can probably help t resolve, and even possibly completely, your blockage by taking Nattokinase, the, 'NOW Brand', as it will disolve clots as they claim, Just be cautious as it is a bit of a blood thinner too so be lsure to let your doctor know you want to take this. The Japanese have used it for many years now. I've also been taking it and feel a lot better since I started and I was giving it to my bed ridden mother and after about a year had a doctor at the hospital where Mom was do a colestrol check on her and he said everything looked fine!

So I would look into that as it all natural, an enzyme that disolves all the junk in your veins and arteries and leaves no residue somhow. Quite remarkable!

Hope everyone has a good Day.

Went and had my blood draw this morning. Then I took my son and Granddaughter out to breakfast. I pigged out, eggs over easy, toast, home fries, bacon, and a pot of coffee. It's a tradition on blood draw day for me. At least now if I sneak a bit of Halloween Candy I can get away with it.;)

The land was white this morning when I headed out. About an inch of snow blanketing the ground. t always looks nice for the first few snowfalls, but then............ Around March I get real sick of of it. But I still like the changs of seasons and in fact probably like winter the best. Always feels so good to curl up near the wood stove and read.

I have gotten a groupd of materials ready fro some other MLK members to put in envelopes and mail out this morning and I am waiting for the first person to pop over and pick up her box. The I have to do some shopping (Candy and that kind of stuff). Then I have to check out my recording equipment and make sure everything is go for a gig this Sunday Afternoon at my church. Then............. I can work on the trains.:D

See you all later.

It's 47 and clear. The high should be in the upper 70's today and it will be sunny becoming partly cloudy later.

Last night was maintenance night at the Sundown Fire Dept. Two overhead fluorescent light fixtures were replaced, the oil in two of the trucks was changed along with the fuel filters. Several small halogen floodlights were assembled and tested before being added to the stations equipment. All the generators and what seemed like miles of electrical cords were checked and all the pumps were checked for leaks. All in all a busy evening.

Happy Haloween Friday everyone,

Just figured I'd pop in and let you all know I'm still alive & kickin'! Been really busy both at work and in the trainroom, and asking "research" questions on the forum - so that doesn't leave me much time for idle chitchat.

latenttrainfan - welcome to the Coffee Shop! I was following your 'getting started' thread earlier. We DO in fact have at least one other woman on this forum: Claudia, a.k.a. Lady_Railfan (http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/member.php?u=6). She's into outdoors G scale modeling.

Chris - I, too, will be doing Halloween duty tonight. Since there are so few houses with young children in my neighborhood, I need to drive my two daughters to one of those newly-built "McMansion" subdivisions ~5 miles away to do their TrickOrTreating.

. . .
It's been winter-like here in Md as of late, and ironically, I was told to wear a short-sleeve shirt yesterday so I could get my free flu vaccination! I've already mentioned that I'm trying to make my layout presentable for guest operators - now all of a sudden new glitches are popping up, such as a block control switch that failed the other night. (I am on DCC now but the block circuits are still there, I just have all the switches turned "on".) I unfastened the panel and held a VOM to it and both sides showed 12.5VAC, and I thought, 'That can't be right' so I put a loco on the dead track to test it - and the headlight came on. So apparently there was a kink in the wire or something, because when I tried restoring the panel the problem block went dead again. So I ended up repositioning the panel ~4 inches below from where I originally had it.

Afternoon, everyone.

Was out with the family yesterday. Went up to DeSoto Caverns. Just before we went in, I started to get dizzy and probably would have been wise just go and lay down but I wanted to see the cave. Big mistake. Had major vertigo there and the 100% humidity was suffocating. I managed to make it back out after downing a few valium tablets but I felt really rotten the rest of the day, fighting off waves off nausea and vertigo. I laid in the front seat like limp rag while my son drove the rest of the crew up to Leeds to go through a haunted factory. Everyone said it was pretty good but I was in no shape to be doing that. Got home about 11:00 pm and went right to bed, sleeping until 10:00 this morning. I still feel like I've been hit by a train. I hate Menieres. :(

Paul, sorry to hear about the hip replacement issue. That kind of surgery is really a crap shoot, with some people doing very well afterwards and others ebing worse off. If you decide to go ahead with the surgery, just make sure it's with an orthopod who's done lots of them before since this seems to be a major variable in predicting success. Whatever's going on with the atery in your heart needs to be taken of first since you want your ticker to be functioning well before surgery. As for Nattokinase, it looks to be a promising enzyme therapy that may serve as a clot buster but there hasn't been enough human or animal research to know for sure. Be sure you talk to a cardiologist before trying it, especially if you are on any other blood thinner, even a daily baby aspirin.

Steve, how is your mouth doing? I hope the holes are healing up. As Jeffrey said, that much hail and I'd be headed for the basement fast. Tornados here are usually preceeded by large falls of hail.

We get very few trick or treaters here. A lot of people go to their churches where the kids go from car to car in the parking lot to get treats. The unreasonable fears about kidnapping and poisoned candy have pretty much ruined Halloween as I knew it when I was a kid.

It's 49 and very foggy this morning. The high will be in the upper 70's and it will be partly cloudy.

I do believe that the catalytic converter on my car is stopped up. I'm can't afford to get it replaced right at this time so I'll just have to drill some holes in it and have the car sound like a tank for a month. Won't be the first time. Yesterday while in Alexandria a friend showed me what I took to be an Athearn RTR loco. It's a GP38-2 done up in the SF Kodachrome scheme. I've pretty much lost interest for the RTR series. He took the shell off and instantly got my attention. The chassis is 100% Athearn Blue Box! I just had to have it and determined that I wasn't leaving there without it. $25 later I left with it in my possession. It's even got the infamous BB jet400 sparky motor.

Mornin' yall.

Hot tea for me Flo, and I'll also take a steak biscuit. Don't know why but my taste for coffee has flat out died and gone away. Where I used to, and loved to, always have a cup of java in my mitts all day, since this past GI infection I had over the summer, I can't stand it. Just doesn't taste right.

Hope everyone got enough monsters last night. This year, we tripled our number!:D Last year we had 1 tricker-treater. This year 3.:rolleyes:Except for our immediate next door neighbors, there aren't any youngsters below college age left in the 'hood.:p

Been doing a little work on the layout but not much. The MD still has me on restrictions. That cyst I had has been drained again and the MD is talking about me having to go back into Hospital, have a drain put in and loading me up with some more bug-juice. Can't win for losing.:(

Good November Morning to you all! Hope you all have a good weekend planned.
We didn't get many gobblins or critters last night. Guess the all churches and schools had plenty of things going for them.

Big day for T-town with Bama's Homecoming. We just got back from the parade and the streets are packed (thought I was stuck in Atlanta's loop at rush hour :D). I got a couple of tickets to the game, but I don't think we will go to this one and instead, just sit back and watch the Georgia/Florida game.

Latenttrainfan: I want yesterday's breakfast, TODAY! Wow, that sounds good.

Ya'll have a good'un and I will try the same.:)

As for myself I had about twenty kids and my daughter made me but four bags of candy bars for them. We then went to a friend's house for a party and a late night campfire. So all and all it was a nice night ! hope you all have a nice day also !!!!!

Good Morning to All from Soaked Coarsegold,
We really needed the rain so this is a good thing!
Say Flo I think I'll have some hot Oatmeal with a large scoop of Brown suggar, that should warm me up on a cold wet morning.

Well many good things have happened for me lately,
[1st] The roof was leaking directly over where I sit here at the computer, literly dripping through the ceiling - bummer, after much trial & tribulation I finally got the roof patched in the right spots so there is no more leaking roof and just in time as we are having on heck of a rain storm. Thank God for Sure!
[2nd] Other patch work I did over the garage did the trick too so no new leaks there either.
[3rd] I found a repalcement, I think, for the Floquil thinner and will need to see how that works. Got 32oz. of it at Michaels and got 40% off too.
[4th] I also needed some Brass Rod to use for my point throw arms on my switches and picked up about 8 lengths of those so that should hold me for awhile.

So I seems that now I can get back to railroading again and finish staining the ties and getting the track laid to expand the operation. I may even work in a coaling tower in the S&A area?

Hope everyone has a good day!
