Hello to everyone, I am a new member ( 27th Jan ) and am based in the UK. I am interested in the Union Pacific and would appreciate some ongoing info. I have no knowledge of American railroad modelling but am a very experienced UK 'O' Gauge modeller. I have aquired an Atlas diesel locomotive and this has prompted myself and my son to consider building an American outline layout for exhibition in the UK. Please feel free to contact me as I am like a sponge absorbing as much info as I can. I beleive the loco I have is a GP38 or GP40? Can anyone tell me what locomotives I should be looking to aquire for the layout if it is based in the modern diesel era. Many Thanks in advance. PS we do not have anything like this in the UK that I am aware of.

I'm hoping Swissengineer will stop by shortly and give you some help. He's a real master at this stuff. Many foreign layouts still look foreign, even with US rolling stock, since they forget about the difference in buildings and signs and just about everything else.
But you can make a layout that looks just as good as any you'll find in the US. Take a look at these photos:

That layout is excellent, and even more so considered that it's located in Switzerland.

Many thanks, the photos look great. I am after an overall scene and as such need lots of industrial and warehouse building pictures and some idea as to how certain freight is dealt with.

Hi Chris and welcome to the ModelRailroadForums. Asking for help, advice and sharing your knowledge is what it's all about. If I might suggest, at the top of the page is a banner with links to " Railroad Photo Gallery & Model RR Photo Gallery", a search for photos of GP38 and GP40 will help you identify your engine model.
Cheers Willis

Then I'd suggest you also join our sister forum, railroadforums.com (just click on the link at the top of the page.)
This forum is the place for modeling info, but if you want photos and details of prototype information, Railroadforums.com is your best bet. Just ask your question, with as much detail as you can, and most likely somebody will have the photos and information you're looking for.
