In one of the scenarios to get a gold, one must be the only surviving railroad. How does one make another railroad go broke. I built stations paralleling their track and made certain I stole most of their traffic, but still they soldier on.

Do I have to buy up all their stock, take over the railroad and ruin it that way?

If you buy a lot of their stock and my the businesses or factories or commodities, you then can make them go broke sometimes if have the majority of the shares and sell off quick you can hurt and bankrupt them. It is tough to do while maintaining your RR.

What scenerio are you playing? Perhaps I'll give it a try and see how I do it, and post a response here when I'm done.

Ways I've bankrupted nearby railroads:

-Sorrounded their mainline on both sides with a 90* crossover on both ends, and running 6 car trains short distances across the crossing behind a SLOW locomotive, preferrably one with horrible reliability, so it'll stop their trains.

-The stock thing works well if you cannot do that.

-Buying up (only lucurative) online industries of the rival railroads, in addition to my own. However, only rarely will a computer player ever serve and industry often enough to warrant this act.

-Served the rival RR's towns and cities directly, but carefully avoiding as much of the rival's track as possible, and seting up a larger, better station with more amenities. (Only do this if you have a VERY stable system beyond the rival RR' cities)

-Stealing passenger service from the computer players will quickly kill off players, using the tactic listed above.
